My first reaction is no chance.

My second reaction is this could come to pass if apple opened up the lock screen to developers, but I doubt it would just be for Facebook.

My third reaction is Apple will wait and see if anyone on android actually cares about Facebook home after using it for a while. That will decide what they ultimately do.

Facebook certainly sounds like they want to go to a place apple will never go. Even with the initial google apps it was not a total takeover. So if it does happen I could see it more as parts of a user assembled home screen / lock screen where you could choose to use all of the available Facebook tools or you could use some of them mixed with others.

Apple could create the ability for third parties to create an overlay but then charge them per user. Lots of options. None of them jump out at me as very apple.

so, Facebook down,, Apple = Good (..or God) whichever.

So Mark will dominate the phone market with social networking .... :O

(Oh no .... not that...just the thought makes my stomach growl)

Thinking a few more seconds I change my mind. Even if apple could gross ten dollars per phone that is way undervalued for that real estate. At least by an order of magnitude.

Facebook home is another reason why google is going to bail on android. They can't afford to give up that valuable property. With the way android is right now they can get end run by other companies.

The lock screen and home screen of iOS devices is potentially worth 10s of billions of dollars a year. There is no way apple is giving that up and there is no way it makes sense to Facebook to pay apple what it is worth.

Social Networking has a place, but can we please stop trying to shove it down everyone's throat?

What you and so many that haven't used anything but iOS for several years don't understand is that it would be an "option". I know this is a pretty much unknown thing for iOS users, but it's something that at least Android users have been spoiled with for years. Option mean that you either install and use it or you don't. Nobody is forcing you to install or use it.

Just because some users can have the possibility to use a new feature doesn't mean everyone must.

I believe long time iOS users should lighten up when it comes to new optional features. It's the same if widgets would be introduced. It's an option. Not forced. If you want your screen look like it has been for 7 years you can. If someone want it to look different, with widgets, they can. Just because some use widgets, others aren't forced to. It's a personal, individual option.

It might be hard entering a new free world when one has been used to being told what to do, how things must look etc. for years. But it's no worse than after a few years iOS users got the fantastic new feature of an option to change lock screen or home screen background. If you thought that was horrible and feared for when you had to make your mind up to which background you had to change to, you didn't have to. You could stay with the pre-installed background if that made you feel more safe and at home.

It's the same with an optional FB Home or widgets. If you want things look like it have been doing for 7 years, good for you, your free to do that. But why hinder people who want to use this? It won't affect your personal user experience. Lighten up and calm down. Option is a good thing. Try it, you might like it...

Not gonna happen. Apple would never cede their precious springboard to anyone.
Meanwhile, lots of innovation happening in the Android camp. *sigh*

Lot of innovation... yes... crash, bugs and most users didn't haven't notice difference between widget and app. iOS is simple, works and it is fast. My LG L5 even rooted and optmized works like a crap. APple could implements widget i na dedicated screen like dashboard or in notification menu but i really hope they didn't made real the possibility of having widget everywhere like android. It is useless and kill the cpu, 99% are idiots and will only made damage to their OS, but blame apple for this not themself.

I'm not a fan of facebook and would never use FB home, but i reckon much of what people hate about FB comes down to poor choice of FB friends. Don't want duck face pictures in your stream? Don't befriend such people. Don't want pictures of cats? Unfriend those people.

Um guys don't worry. If it comes to iPhone it will most likely be optional, like Android. I don't think apple will shove facebook down iPhone users' nose by having it switched on by default.

This will happen as soon as Apple releases iTunes for Windows...

...er, as soon as Apple makes a video iPod

...ah, as soon as Apple switches to Intel

...no, as soon as Apple releases a phone

...um, wait, as soon as Apple creates a tablet

...or as soon as Apple gets into the eBook market

...as soon as Apple releases an "iPad mini"

Many of us hope you're wrong, no offense intended.....

I highly doubt Apple will allow it, but I guess it would be nice for them who do like Facebook Home.

Who knows. Maybe Ive and his team are actually opening up the lock screen to developers. That would IMHO be a more clean cut than opening up for widgets and ultimately be easier for users to manage.

Nothing on the lockscreen should be able to access any important or private information behind the lock screen / passcode, though.

And PS, no, I don't wan't FB Home on my lockscreen either, but maybe others do.

Not gonna happen.

Update: According to a source inside Facebook familiar with the discussions, the social networking company is not in talks with Apple or Microsoft, contrary to what Bloomberg has reported earlier. We’ve been told that while the company has good relationships with both Apple and Microsoft, right now no discussions have taken place to bring Home to those platforms.

As long as it's not more than a standalone version of iOS, I really don't care at all. Make it mandatory, and I'm gone.

Whilst I'm sure many won't want it.

What's wrong with giving iPhone users "The Choice" ?

iPhone users have the choice to upgrade to an open smartphone that runs on Android. Or if they wait a few more months, they can also buy phones with Ubuntu Phone or Firefox OS.

There are alternatives to Apple's extremely controlled and restricted user "experience".

I wish FB would die off already. One good thing is it will not be around forever. There isn't one thing on the net that I can think of that was on it back in 1993 that is still on it today, Ok well one thing still is and that is AOL but even though the app still works, it's a ghost town.

Can't think of a feature I would like less than this.

Facebook is one of those things where if I want it I will login online or into my specific app. I have no desire to constantly see Facebook every time I glance at my phone.
