Because before Facebook small businesses did not exist, everyone was dying of joblessness and hunger... Riiiight, Mark. Good one. Keep the jokes coming.

Here's an interesting one. This is more related to Google but since I started using DuckDuckGo as my search engine, the amount of spam I get in my inbox has dropped by 90%+. That's no coincidence... If people think ads are a great thing, I say think again of all the uncontrollable side-effects ads cause.

What's the benefit of personalised ads? The best ad is the non-existent ad. There are no benefits to me in having any advertising, certainly not advertising that necessitates invasion of privacy.
Seriously. The targeted ads are actually extremely annoying, more so than the random ones. I constantly get ads for things that I already purchased or subscribed to. It makes no sense to keep showing me the same ads over and over again.

I’m don’t know the specifics but Facebook and other apps like this should be allowed to either prompt upon every launch or not allow the app to work without agreeing to allow tracking.

Im all in on Apple forcing everyone to be more transparent on privacy. But a vast majority of the ‘free’ internet relies on advertising to fund it and I see no problem whatsoever to force people to opt in to tracking if you want to use their service that relies on this data for revenue.

Pardon me if I don't cry a river for the bazillionare busybody who's been getting rich off people's personal lives for years.

I don't think they deserve to be punished, only Facebook. People who use Facebook aren't the ones being evil and data-mining everyone else, after all (well, besides Facebook CEOs who use their own platform)

They don't need to be punished, just shamed for covering their ears and going "na na na, can't hear you!" when presented with evidence of the evils of facebook. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

That's terrible, and I think a good lawyer could challenge that quite easily. You should not have to give up your privacy to study something.
Who would the lawyer go after? I would feel bad trying to sue a school after they invested in resources to make a more immersive learning experience. But couldn't Facebook absolve blame and say the school knew the privacy policy? Considering how long development can take for this sort of stuff they likely developed for the Oculus 1 and then were forced to migrate to the 2 when the original was discontinued.

Gee, maybe this will move app developers to adopt a business model where we can simply buy the apps, without creepy and invasive privacy-violating tracking.

Probably because it's a political post and you haven't met the requirements to be able to reply to political posts.
Unfortunately, it’s not just that one article as macrumors had to turn off comments for a number of posts that relate to equal rights and progress. I can comment in political posts but it seems even those who can have gone off the rails with their comments. I truly hope they’re sock puppets cause if this is how bad we’ve fallen as a society I don’t see much hope for humanity.

Not just after, but also before. They track everyone they can with their stupid like-buttons added to webpages, and "statistics" and login-solutions getting put into apps and websites.

If their stuff reaches your device, no matter how, they track you.

Do they still collect your phone number when a friend of yours uploads their contacts? I deleted my account over a year ago now and I know about the shadow profiles and collecting data from others who include you in their posts/photos, but not this part.

This is too funny since I decided to delete Facebook and Instagram from my iPhone last night.
I got rid of it last year. I don’t like gigs rich oligarch run corporations controlling what people can think by censoring what others can say. It turns out that there aren’t really any withdrawals getting off FB crack.
