We all pretty much knew FaceTime was coming. But more importantly, is the new icon 2x the resolution of the old one? That's a far more critical question!

The icons weren't the full icons. Just pictured in that thumbnail. But that thumbnail was the same size as the current iPad.

What's up with the super thin Bezel/Lack of home button in that photo?

That image is of the preview icon of what your wallpaper would look like under the "Brightness & Wallpaper" settings, thats why it has no bezel or home button.

the iPad 2 will be worth the wait, will get that once I have enough money build up.

Sure wish Apple would let you unsync some of it's apps off your iOS devices. My little niece and nephew have no need for a Stocks app.

I can only imagine how traumatizing it must be when they accidentally open it and see letters and numbers they don't understand. Those poor children.

The camera features on the new iPad seem neat, but the main reason I would upgrade is for a sharp new high-resolution display.

That being said, it seems unlikely that I will be upgrading. Although some more RAM, coupled with a thin and lighter device would be tempting.

As far as further software updates, I really hope Apple implements some form of user accounts. Perhaps tied in with this front camera to recognize who is picking it up. My wife and I share the iPad, and she likes different games and has different email accounts than I do, as well as iBooks and GameCenter accounts. Some further separation would be welcome.

How about a FaceTime camera that recognizes the user and automatically loads their account/settings?

I'd also like it to do my laundry and make me a sandwich... Then I'll get one.

Camera is an obvious addition. But other than this, what else? I'm afraid the iPad 2 will be just like what Gruber said, is a iPhone-3GS-ish upgrade. Not bad for many of us, but the Android boom also came in the life of the 3GS.

Im saying it also for surely has a rear camera. Why have photobooth AND camera for just a front cam? it would be a waste of an app. They both would only take pictures with the front camera, so why need two?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

so this definitely means that the ipad 2 will launch with iOS 4.3

they wouldn't put the iPad with cameras on it if that weren't the case. I'm excited. here's hoping for an announcement very soon.

there are still some people who insist that all this is fake and the ipad won't come with a camera :D

If you have followed the news these days the focus has now come to the display. Everyone has accepted that there are two cameras in the iPad 2.

We still can't say for sure if there will be a back camera, as the camera app could possibly be used only for the front camera.

Though I understand that not much can be said from this screenshot from 9to5mac that was posted a few days ago, I can't think of a time in the last 6 months were I have actually used the front camera of my iPhone 4 to record video. So if Apple only intends to make use of the Camera app for a front camera, then isn't that the point of the PhotoBooth app?

Point being, I am sure their will be a front and back camera.

Why do we have two apps (Camera and Photos) today?

- Photos.app's primary function is to display photos and send them to friends.
- Camera.app's primary function is to take photos, but it can also pop up and send them to friends if you want.

So...

PhotoBooth will primarily be for applying filters to photos, but one can imagine that you could take a new image if you wanted to from inside that app as well.

Each of these are entry points to different tasks, instead of giving you one app that you must wade through options to get what you want, instead you get a friendly icon that conveys what its purpose is.

My prediction:
Same 1024x768 display
Front and rear camera
512 MB of RAM
Faster CPU and GPU
Better speaker
Won't launch with iOS 5

Possibly a Mini-display port and SD Card slot.

I can see the photo booth being a good selling point on the ipad2 - Sounds fun and maybe it will be a wide lens camera.

Except for the fact the Photobooth on the mac is used purely for TAKING photos? not adding filters afterwards...I don't see it being any different on the iPad.

I just want a retina display.

Add that to my criteria.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Pretty much an obvious addition.

High res screen and the game is over, Apple wins.

I will be disappointed if it doesn't have a "Retina" display! After having an iPhone 4, looking at the current iPad screen is just not ideal! :(

Y both a camera app and photobooth? Y not combine the two.

Thats what I thought!

P.S. I am SOOOOO TIRED of hearing people say, FaceTime, but we're not sure about a back camera. These people simply don't understand Apple PERIOD! So let me explain............. A BACK CAMERA IS PART OF FACETIME!!! Part of the experience is flipping the camera around, that is one of the main highlight features of FaceTime. If there is FaceTime there will be TWO cameras PERIOD! Apple will not deliver a partial user experience! You'd think MacRumors would get that  And that's not even to mention the potential a back camera has with apps using that as functionality, AR, etc.!

Is the iPad a Mac?

Also, does your Mac have two cameras?

Do real photo booths have a "rear" camera?

Again, you've missed the point here. Yes of course, they COULD be combined, but the idea is giving you a simple choice when you look at the apps on the screen. Users will associate the application, and PhotoBooth icon with taking photos from the front facing camera of and applying fun filters.

They will associate the Camera app with taking photos from the rear camera. If you don't like the app, well good thing you can throw it in a folder and put it on the last page of the home screen.

iPad 2 is going to be brilliant! STOKED! :D

I just want a retina display.

Well I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but, you're not getting one! They'd have to revamp the applications yet again which they just did last year. Not saying I'm 100% right but it seem HIGHLY unlikely.

Exactly, +1.

I'd like mine separated. One is for fun and the other isn't. Photobooth will be for effects and such, right?

Am I the only one missing iChat?

Who needs it? IMing is skydiving out of view.

It's not a photo, it's a screenshot, and there's no bezel and no home button in the middle of your screen.

Lol!

Huh?

Tablet with a camera sounds stupid.

I think it's a great idea as I'd use it a lot. Bye.

More and more evidence seem to mount up to the reality of the next ipad 2 not having 2048x1536 :(

If they go with 512MB Ram upgrade, and a flash memory size bump with camera, SD card built in, and a larger speaker, I for sure will not upgrade. This will be disappointing year for the iPad when competitors have much better tablets releasing in 2011...

Just leave the wife, have her in jailed for attempted murder when she tries to kill you after telling her she has been cheating on you, sue your mortgage holder for securities fraud and then use the few hundred thousand dollars over the out of court settlement to buy a butt load of iPads. Win!

Okay? I understand that. Does Apple ever keep the same name across two platforms without having near identical features?

The whole point of the argument was that they wouldn't include the "camera" app if the iPad 2 only shipped with a front facing camera.
