I mean really whats the point with this whole +1 thinig. Its just to get posts on your profile.

I thing a back facing camera would be pretty useless

I would have thought front/read facing cams was a given. Good to see it confirmed wither way.

Edit: Now, release FaceTime as an open standard like you said you were going to Apple! Cross platform FaceTime is what I want. Nexus to iPhone.

I can think of at least one use... Uh, taking pictures. That seems sort of useful. Easier to frame a pic with all that screen, although it may be a little unmanageable with all that bulk. Guess we'll see.

Which in turn is against the forum rules.

+1

Thank you for clarifying. (for new readers)

I'm sorry but you just made me lol at that comment.

Brilliant! :D (no +1 for you as it is against the rules.....) ;(

camera

A front facing camera and a little better resolution and I may be there on release day but I still don't see the need for a rear facing camera on an almost 10" device! Call me Crazy

There are still tens/hundreds of millions of people who don't see the need or the point of an iPad in the 1st place, when you could use a laptop/netbook for less money that did a ton of stuff the iPad can't.

That does not mean they are right. Different people have different views on stuff.

My prediction:
Same 1024x768 display
Front and rear camera
512 MB of RAM
Faster CPU and GPU
Better speaker
Won't launch with iOS 5

Possibly a Mini-display port and SD Card slot.

Your predictions were so conservative and very believable, right up until you said Mini-display port.

There is no reason for Apple to have that if they already have a dock connector that is the universal output port for video. I suspect they would also use HDMI anyway instead of MDP because they would want people to hook it up to an HDTV with ease.

But no, there is not gonna be MDP, but an SD card slot is likely, as is a much improved microphone and speaker(s).

Like any facetime setup, back camera is for show & tell. If you were to facetime, you can show your family or friend at the same time you are seeing your friend or family.

How about a FaceTime camera that recognizes the user and automatically loads their account/settings?

I'd also like it to do my laundry and make me a sandwich... Then I'll get one.

That's essentially what I was getting at. Different login accounts. Could have problems in a dim room, though if it does it could always boost the screen brightness to capture an image of the face. That screen can get really bright!

As for the last part, just do what I did: buy an iPad and get a wife! Haha, I keed I keeeed.

But seriously though she does do my laundry and has been known to make great sandwiches on our panini press. She is one incredible woman and I tell her that every day!

I forgot to mention the other thing that would make this iPad upgrade worth it to me:

Pressure sensitivity.

Sure, on the surface it might look useful for only artists/designers like me who also use their iPad as a sketchbook, but consider this: It could also be a useful tool for developers in developing interesting new game mechanics and interface designs, as well as for Apple to further refine their touch interface and gestures (i.e. deliberate touch or not depends on pressure applied).

I remember reading around the time the first iPad was announced about a new type of capacitive touch screen that has these tiny tubes inside. As you press down with your finger, these tubes would squash, and it could tell how much pressure was being applied depending on how much of each side of the tube was touching against itself. That way you wouldn't need a special stylus. Neat, am I right? But if I remember correctly, it can also use a stylus if required.

Damn, looks like I'm the only one that misread the title as "FaceTime, Camera and PhotoBooth Icons Confirm Retina Display in iPad 2". =_=

I said possibly because of a recent rumor, stop overreacting because I mentioned a mini displayport could possibly be there. The fact that you mention the SD Card slot is possible just completely demolishes your previous claim of the MDP not being there simply because they can add a dock connector. Well news flash, there's already a dock connector for an SD Card slot.

The fact that there is an SD card adapter for the dock connector actually increases the chances of them adding it. It's something that already exists and they can guess the demand based on sales of the connection kit. The fact is that MDP output does not current exist at all on the iPad. The closest is the video out you can do with the dock connector, which could be easily expanded to support HDMI if they wish.

The reason having a separate port for MDP makes no sense is that it wouldn't work very well with the iPad dock. Say you place it in the dock, and then you expect to have this other cable running out the top of it? That puts stress on the connector port with it hanging off like that. That is just really stupid design and would lead to broken MDP ports not to mention would look really stupid having TWO cables connected to the iPad at the same time (I thought this thing was supposed to be portable?). They are better off making a dock that supports MDP or HDMI output on the back of it, similar to the A/V docks for the iPod/iPhone. Why kill off a perfectly good opportunity to expand on the dock port which we know has plenty of video output capability waiting to be unlocked.

Nah, it's more likely that if the leaked case designs are correct, there will be something else entirely going on with the hole at the top, like an improved microphone (makes perfect sense with the rear facing camera).

So I guess you are forgetting that Apple also ships a VGA Adapter? All you are doing is stepping on your own toes with your statements.

I don't see how docking has anything to do with this considering the VGA adapter Apple sells doesn't even allow you to dock with anything since it's already taken. It's just impossible. It wouldn't need to be upright anyway as you are going to be looking at whatever display you are hooked up to. You could lay your iPad down and have one standard dock connector charging cable coming out of the bottom and a mini-display port going out of the top. Whether it happens or not is irrelevant because I said possibly. Your argument that an SD Card slot could be possible but a MDP couldn't doesn't hold up.

Nice to see more confirmation there. :)

Although I hope the built-in camera in the iPad 2 won't be the "One more thing"...

More than you think

Apple need something big this year. They've known about Steve for a while now and his leave was carefully planned. It was obvious that share value would be hit by the news.

This is why you might be surprised by what iPad2 delivers, as well as iPhone5 and some other products later this year.

I expect a res bump for the iPad2 - probably significant.

I believe Steve is unlikely to be back at Apple in any major capacity and the products this year will be his parting shot and the crutch APPL need to lean on.

Of course it has a rear camera... FaceTime has functionality to switch to the rear camera to show someone something, Apple certainly isn't going to leave that functionality out of it's own thing, rofl.

I didn't forget the VGA adapter, but I purposely didn't mention it because the dock port is a universal video out port. It can be purposed for any type of video output that Apple chooses and that is why they sell many different adapters for it. Doesn't matter if it is VGA, Component, Composite, or (potentially) HDMI or MDP. I knew you would bring this up though, and I just couldn't leave our wonderful conversation unfinished.

Also yes you can use the VGA adapter with the dock, you simply plug the adapter into the back of the dock. The dock connector is designed to be the only A/V hook up on Apple's devices, other than the headphone jack. They aren't going to change years of design to put a really odd MDP port on the top. Plus what happens when you plug in video out on the dock connector and the MDP port at the same time? What is the point in that?

Sure anything is "possible" but the probability is incredibly low.

The fact is that the SD card slot is more probable because of the demand for the camera connection kits. Apple sold out of those for weeks at a time, while the VGA adapters all got returned (and barely bought at all) once people realized how useless it was. We also have had rumors of an SD card slot for months now, and this MDP rumor only just came up by some random guesses from people writing about the leaked cases. They guessed wrong though, it's quite obvious.

Besides, everyone keeps ignoring the fact that none of these leaked cases have a hole cut out for the microphone, which means the hole at the top is the most likely place for a new improved microphone.

So in terms of the chances of the things happening, they go in this order:

FaceTime w/ Front Facing Camera
Rear Facing Camera
Faster processor
More memory
Better Speaker & Microphone
SD Card Slot
...then way at the bottom of the list of chances...
Mini-Display Port (a second video output port besides the dock connector)
Retina Display

I don't know. I still don't see the need of a rear facing camera on the next iPad. I get the whole front facing camera for use with FaceTime and PhotoBooth, but not a rear facing camera (call me wrong). I mean it makes sense on devices like the iPhone and the iPod Touch (which took forever and a day to add for the iPad Touch) because they are great photography and shooting video. But are you really going to be using the next iPad for that? Its not practical...its a 10-inch device, but that's just my opinion.
