I consider those IGN / GameSpy ratings of 12 out of 10 as a nice well-paid joke.

I mean, these are the folks who hand out 9+ scores like Halloween candy and then are using those same games as doormats within 6 months in previews for the next set of games they can hand out ridiculous scores based on pre-release code to. I mean, look at Oblivion reviews there, then how many times they eviscerate Oblivion in their previews of Fallout 3.

I always look at the smaller sites for more realistic assessments, and those give me hope: they are running in the upper-80's, saying that there are numerous issues that threaten to spoil the ride, but that it is still a really good game.

My pre-order is waiting for me to grab at lunch and install tonight ...

I did one smart thing: I pre-paid last spring so it would less game nailing the wallet this season!

How is it "smart" to give a company free money so they can make money off of it for months while you have nothing? I don't mind giving $5 for a deposit on a game, but I have far better things to do with $60 than let it sit with a game store for months and get no return from it.

I prefer Amazon, costs nothing to pre-order and they usually arrive on release date or a couple days before.

That looks cool.....thats the thing you bought with dead space right? looks like it makes the PC controls more accessible to non PC gamers....like me.

The PS3 has something just like that for the console......how does this one stack up?

I'm still getting fallout 3 for the PS3....the difference are minor and only noticeable if you're looking for it(Like a real nerd)

note: I'll have enough games to last me until killzone 2 this holiday season.

Bless

I wouldn't know how it compares, but what I can say, is that it makes key input comfortable, convenient, and and allows me to perform more complex actions with just my left hand, so it speeds things up. For Dead Space it has proven its worth for me.

Anyways, it's fully programmable on both the Mac and PC. A good perhiperal with a bit of practice.

Faster load times are nerdy. :D *I Kid* The game was built on Gamebryo, so it's the same game across the board, but faster load times and supposedly the GUI is PC mouse friendly, which I miss in games. :)

I had to go to GameStop to get my copy. It was $54.11 after tax. Blah. This game better be as that Shacknews' guy put it, a PC game at heart -- he put it in the same light as System Shock and Deus Ex.

So far so good. The controls are PERFECT for once.

I'm a bit overwhelmed, I'm not really sure what I need to do at the moment. It's been a long time since I've played a game of this calibre and it seems like it will require a ton of time.

The whole setup to the game is quite unique. Choosing the attributes part was awesome. :)

Anyways, this game is going on hold until after I finish Dead Space and of course catch up on work.

Yeah, I should have said "smart" ... but when you look at it, that $50 I paid (or $45 if you take the differential from a $5 deposit) would have yielded no more than $1.75 even in my super-duper high interest account ... and when you look at what has happened to the economy in the interim, the uncertainty makes spending that $50 a harder value proposition.

Actually, I have a little tiny complaint when I saw the trailers for Fallout 3, not that important, but it's just nagging. I really dislike the rag doll effect when people die. (it was is ME, Oblivion as well I believe). It's just annoying to see them collapse into a puddle of mass when they die. I would still play it though.

^I wouldn't worry about that too much seeing as how most of the time a direct hit accumulates into dismemberment or tomato soup(with chunks)

I got the game on the PS3 and the FUD on the interwebz is crazy....there are bugs and glitches but nothing game changing. I played offline so I didn't have the pop up notification problem.

Overall its a good game from what I've played(I'm not out the vault yet so I'm still at the beginning)

After playing Dead Space, this game is rather boring. I need to get into it, because if it's like others I played that are similar, it will be rewarding after a certain point -- I couldn't get into Oblivion, so I don't know how that game was.

Why couldn't I tell the guards to back down after I pointed a gun at them? I had to run or return their violence. I would think in a game that says I can talk my way out of problems on the box, would have had that option. Or did I miss something as I escaped? :)

I will get the pc version and use my 360 remote. That is how I play Crysis.

After playing Bioshock for the first time recently (overrated, dull FPS fare) I'm looking forwards to getting back on track with this game. 'Oblivion with guns' suits me just fine, and by most accounts it's more than that anyway.

Any major problems with the PS3 version yet?

BioBLAH! I think it received the dopamine vote from younger guys, because it was pure hype and not worthy of being labeled as a spiritual successor.

I'm starting to see the appeal of this game now. I just had to leave that boring town Megatron -- whatever it's called -- for the intrigue to happen. I'm in the Super Mart place, so not that far.

Only problems I've experienced so far is the pop up notification freeze and some frame rate drops(only one encounter so far) and I'm 25-30 hours in already.

I'm doing the main quest first then I'll deal up with all the side missions...I'm also playing through this game as the holiest saint;)

notification freeze.. ? Do you mean when a friend comes online or such ? Is it possible to turn those notifications off like on a 360 ?

Debating if I want this on 360 or PC. Hmm. Wandered through Best Buy yesterday and did not see it on the shelf or even mention of it. I realize it's a much different game from Oblivion but are the mechanics similiar?

Thanks!

Fallout 3 DVD-ROM Error on MacBook Pro (BootCamp)

Hello, everyone. I'll probably be cross-posting this on several likely threads, so my apologies if you come across this more than once.

My situation is this. I received Fallout 3 as a birthday pressie and the DVD-ROM installed perfectly on the Windows desktop computer, which is the 'gaming rig'. But it would be nice to be able to play a bit of the game when I'm away from home, so I also tried installing it on WinXP SP3 running via a BootCamp partition on my MacBook Pro...

...and the MBP's drive won't recognise the disc. I pop it in, it whirrs up, Windows temporarily locks up My Computer, and after a minute of desperate whirring and clicking, the MBP drive spits out the retail DVD-ROM again.

Has anyone out there experienced this before... and if so, can you give me any advice on how to fix this problem? Is it just because Apple 'SuperDrives' are rubbish, or could this have something to do with Fallout 3 using SecureROM or god knows what else? I've installed dozens of Windows games on my MBP using BootCamp and never before encountered a game disc being rejected like this.

I just want to play the game I legally own, on Windows... just on my MBP. Any ideas out there? Many thanks in advance!
