So Patch 22 landed Tuesday, and I had some time in the game yesterday and this morning here's some of my early thoughts.

Nerfing of weapons
As mentioned in my prior posts, Bethesda changed how damage is computed. You have the raw damage, but you can stack enhancements via perk cards, mutations, food, and bobble heads. That stacking was multiplicative, i.e., base x perk x perk x mutation. Now its additive: Base x (perk + perk + mutation). All weapons damage decreased but it was the bloodied builds that were impacted the most. People were running around with automatic weapons that dealt 600+ damage for a single round, so the DPS was out of this world. As a comparison my .50 cal machine gun is like 100 (going by memory).

Needless to say the bloodied build people are PISSSED, but it does balance the game and make it more fair for everyone.

One Wasteland
With this change, the creature you face will be relative to your level. So if I'm with a level 10 player and we're both fighting the same creature I'll see level 50 and he'll see something like 10 or below. Its kind of cool in how they implemetned that. Yet I'm not really enjoying the change, now all creature spawns near my camp could and will destroy it. I'm burning through ammo like there's no tomorrow. I usually can run with 5k of .50 cal ammo and that will last me a few days, which include public events, and one boss event (colossal problem), now it seemed to only last me yesterday and this morning. I did only a couple of public events and no boss event.

Legendary Perks
I'm really liking this, I cash in unused perk cards for perk coins and those coins can be used to apply a legendary perk. For instance I have Ammo Factory and its level 2, so right now crafting ammo, I get 75% more ammo when crafting. Level 3 I'll get 100% and level 4 will be 125%. There's other legendary effects but most don't interest me, but I can use those legendary perk slots for SPECIAL points, say add more Strength without need to take a point away from another SPECIAL. I've upped the ammo factory one but I'm not sure how else to spend my points.

Daily Ops
I've not done these yet, maybe in a day or so, its something that has to be done in a group (I'm not sure if you have to be part of a team or just link up with others like other events). The creatures here have legendary effects, like freezing that make it harder to take them down, and usually you have to shoot them to bring their health down and then kill them with a melee weapon. So if you're not a melee player you'll probably need to find a melee weapon. Either way its not easy from what I've read. Loot drop seems to be uninspired when completing the event.

Overall
Here's my thoughts as a whole for patch 22. I'm not liking the changes and it has the potential to negatively impact my play time, i.e., play something else. Nerfing my weapons to make them less powerful AND making all of the other creatures harder to kill made the game more grindy especially in places, events that were not grindy before. Bethesda made the players weaker and the creatures stronger.

I could be wrong, but it seems they're catering to more of the group play aspects of the game, and regardless of the fact that there's healthy contingent of solo players like myself they seem to enhancing the game for coop and making it harder (and less fun) for us solo players.

I’m not really tempted to go back, having my F4 game in stasis, but have not played it too much lately, doing a lot of World of Tanks and World of Warships.

If you look at how people are playing it appears that solo play is the majority. I'm stealing this from a post on the Bethesda forum:
But when this game came out, BGS was attempting to push something on their player base that wasn't what they played. The base was solo players who fought the environment. BGS wanted them to fight each other and were surprised when they didn't. They wanted them to team up and they mostly didn't. So instead of evolving the game in the direction the base clearly wanted, they doubled down and pushed it towards what they wanted. The only Team oriented events I've seen succeed are the public events like SBQ. They've tried the same team on demand op with the Vault raid and the caravan escort. Neither has been well attended. So they decided to make a Daily OP that demands a team, make it on -demand, not provide a good way to draw other players and make it insanely hard to solo by negating the advantages of most builds.

I agree with those comments, when the game came out Todd Howard said many times, that there is no need for human NPCs to carry the story, because human players are the story. You can fight with them, or join them, but as mentioned above, that didn't happen. PVP is non-existent and even with public teams its really no happening that much. The most team work you see is in SBQ event or the colossal problem where we all show up as individuals to fight the end game boss.

It sounds like some people are happy over the changes, but many of us are not. We'll see if that's enough for Bethesda to make things right. I said this elsewhere, its only a game, and its not life or death, I'll just find something else I enjoy :)

I don’t mind situations that require multiple players, but prefer mostly soloable game play, and I detest “events” especially when there are strings of them, as they remove me from immersion, reminding me I’m playing this developer’s game and the God in the sky is giving me busy work to keep me occupied, if you see what I’m saying.

The events used to be fun, but in all honesty, the game as it stands is not as enjoyable as it used to be. I think with this One Wasteland change, I'm pouring bullets into every creature that I run into. I may see if I can improve the power of my rifle so I can one shot the scorched and other supposedly low level creatures.

If Bethesda continues to push team play, then the writing is on the wall for this and I'll move on ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If Blizzard studied MMOs, they should know soloable game play is a key to success Imo.

The dust is settling a bit and while there is much anger over the nerfing of weapons AND buffing of creatures, I think its not as horrible as I was thinking.

I did need to respec my character a bit, I was a dual rifle/heavy gunner. I enjoyed the rifle and was able to one-shot most scorch, bugs and other lower-level opponents in the pre-patch 22 days. Now that's no longer possible, my refile with all the perks took more effort and if you're swarmed by a mob, you'll be SOL.

So, while I had some heavy gunner perks, I moved more points to Strength, and built out my character to be more tanky and heavy gunner. Now at least I can move around Appalachia without too much issues.

I started grinding for the T-65 secret service PA and I'm mostly there. I need to he mods and the helmet. This is the most powerful power armor and that will give me superior damage protection.

I'm still largely avoiding team play though If I do an event its with others. I've shied away from Daily Ops though I may dip my toe in one on my private server for giggles.

Patch 23 is landing tomorrow, I'll post the update notes, but I think this will including the removal of the debuffs for hunger/thirst. Now you'll get buffs for fully fed instead of losing AP and health. Overall, I'm against this, as it makes it too easy and less to manage.

One Wasteland has been with us now for a month and I've largely gotten used to it. I hated the leveled creatures when they first came through but it forced me to specialize, I was waffling between a rifle build and heavy gunner. I went whole hog on the heavy gunner/tanky build and life's been better.

A hot fix landed to the other week to address balance changes for mid level players as One Wasteland made it virtually impossible for them to survive, low and high levels didn't have the same level of difficulty, though I'm hoping for more balance changes. Sadly this hotfix caused significant stability issues, and people including myself have had to contend with Crash to Desktops.

Another update is that of Camp Shelters where the camp restrictions have been removed, both inventory wise, and building wise, including putting elements floating in the air. I heard somewhere this was being delayed until December though, so I don't know if it will land tomorrow.

I've been enjoying my time in the game more lately, though meat week 2 was kind of underwhelming. We're fully in season 2 of the legendary run, I'm about 1/2 through the run, but I'm not grinding to progress, at least not seriously working at it.

I went back to my excavator armor, its just too good to not use. You get a benefit from mining (needed for lead ore), its carry capacity is the best in the game and its just a great PA. I all but finished grinding for the T65 armor and its just sitting in my stash box ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So patch 23 is only bug fixes, I was wrong about camp shelters, that is supposed to land at a later time.

Looks like Bethesda is offering a limited trial of their Fallout First subscription from yesterday through the 26th. Its the bombs drop day sale (the day the great war started/ended in 2077), and a ton of stuff when on sale on the atom store.

My opinion is the Fallout first sub is totally worth it, makes the game much more playable, thanks to the limited scrapbox, and the survival tent. The monthly atoms allotment is a nice plus as well

The Survival Tent was a must to make the game playable.

Well, I finally decided to drop a nuke. Its the final quest in main story line and I've been putting it off for one reason or another - just that I was busy with other quests and objectives. With the BOS content dropping in a few weeks and no other major new challenges I decided to go this.

As I've stated many times before, I play solo, so I was doing this silo run solo. I'm fairly tanky build with a couple of powerful legendary heavy guns, so it wasn't too hard, though I hate dealing with the assaultrons and there was about 2 every level of the silo. Also in the game the Mr. Gutsy class of robots ignore your armor and their .50 cal gun does a lot of health damage. I had too many of those to deal with but I managed.

Took me close to 45 minutes to get to the launch area and finish the final side quest to permit the launching of the nukes.

The game allows you to select almost any target except for the fallout 76/flatwoods area which is mostly a location for beginners. There's two locations for end-game bosses. Fissure Site Prime and Monongah Mine (for the new-ish Colossal Problem).

I opted for Fissure Site Prime, The Scorched Earth event is more enjoyable, as the entire server can participate, the rewards are good as well since you get fairly decent amount of stable flux, and loot drops.

The problem as I see it with a Colossal Problem is that its an instanced location, and limited to 8 people. After 8, another instance is created an then a separate group of players are there. The problem is that there's never 8 - if you're lucky there's a total of 5 players, which is almost impossible to to complete with 5. Less then that, its a waste of time and ammo. Plus after you kill the boss (Earle), you have to evacuate the mine in 2 minutes, unlike the Scorched Earth event, which you hang around kill more creatures, maybe farm for unstable flux (to turn into stable)

Overall it was a fun event and I think I'll do another in a day or so, as I have another nuclear card to use :D

I played Fallout 4 last night For a change of pace from WoT. ;)
I played around 20k battles of WoT and I can't stand the "unbalance" and pay2win in WoT anymore.
The game is just a waste of time for the pleasure I had in the game.

Nowadays I play a lot of Warzone/COD.

Playing has quieted down a bit, my investment has decreased, mostly because I like others are waiting for new content.

I dropped another nuke yesterday, this time I snapped a picture for posterity sake ;)

The Dec 1st (I think the update is landing on 12/1), is giving us the new BOS DLC content, instanced camps where much of the CAMP building restrictions are removed/relaxed, food/thirst debuffs are removed, and instead if you're fully fed and/or watered, you get a buff. Thanks to legendary perks, the need for food/water has already been largely mitigated so I'm not sure how this will play out. Another update is the maximums on items, like scrip, caps, bullion etc appear to be doubled with the new update, but I'll have to wait and see. Like other high level players you get to a point where you have hitting the max amts pretty easily.

The Colossal problem event seems to have cooled down, my complaints and gripes are not the minority and the Scorched Earth even where you fight the Scorched Beast Queen is a more enjoyable event, where the entire server can participate. The loot drop is generally better as well.

Bethesda tends to have sales for legendary items every so often - using Legendary scrip, but the RNG is usually horrible, I burned through 1,000 scrip (the max you can hold) and got nothing no weapons that come close to being a keeper. This is one of the gripes I have, the odds of getting anything useful is so small its not worth it.

Overall the game continues to be fun to play, though without new content, my time in the game as decreased which is to be expected.

So Fallout 76's update 24 was scheduled for Dec 1st, but it's not going to land Tuesday - but rather, it already came on 11/24

So through a series of mistakes, they accidently updated the Xbox servers and instead of undoing things, they decided to apply th update and give everyone an early access to the DLC.

I just finished Steel dawn and/or update 24 and here's my thoughts.
1. The BOS arrival to Appalachia was supposed to be done in two waves of updates but at some point Bethesda decided to make it a single entity. The first update was supposed to land in October or November and then in December part B. In all truthfulness given the size of this new content, I think having it in two parts was a mistake. I started this DLC on Wednesday and not playing hard core finished it up this morning. IT was enjoyable and a bit different but still fun. It ended on a psuedo-cliff hanger so we'll still get more story for the BOS.

One thing that has angered a lot of people including myself with the new BOS update is the rare loot drops and specific BOS items, you really don't get much from the DLC, instead they're hidden behind the daily OPS. You need to do daily OPS to get new BOS armor and what not. I don't do the daily OPS, its Bethesda's way of forcing team play. Plus with Daily OPS there's only a 1% chance of getting those legendary items when you complete a daily ops. Let me repeat that - only a 1% chance. Plus you can only get one legendary item per day. IT puts grinding to a whole new level. I'm content with my armor and guns, so I'll not miss any of that stuff.

As for other parts to update 24, they added CAMP shelters, instanced locations where the building restrictions are relaxed, and you are free to build in any way you wish. I'm a fan of pre-fab buildings, so this doesn't interest me as much. Plus in a major mistake, Bethesda doesn't highlight which locations have CAMP Shelters, they market this as a way to show off your design and imagination but then don't provide a way to see them.

Also in update 24 is the removal of hunger/thirst de-buffing. You don't incur damage or lack of AP when you're hungry or thirsty. Instead when you fully fed/watered you get increased strength, AP regen and what not. Given recent changes, such as the inclusion of legendary perks, this has little to no impact, but I stopped dealing with needing water and food thanks to a legendary perk.

So I finished the BOS DLC, and I think I'll be putting FO76 down for a while (I know I've said that before). I'm at a point in the game where all of the main quests are done, and there's no new content coming any time soon.

I have zero interest in doing the daily OPS, though I may do one (solo) just to see what its like.

The BOS DLC was fun, great quests, somewhat different, but that difference is welcome, the addition of the BOS to Appalachia is a welcome addition, even if it does break the continuity, but then Bethesda never really cared about continuity.

What was disappointing is that Bethesda hyped (over hyped) the BOS DLC and its something that can be done in about 4 hours of play time. It was delayed, had multiple trailers produced and Bethesda pushing on how great it will be, only have it completed on a weekend.

I may be looking to see if I get a PS5, or an Xbox x, and I may shift some of my game time back on to consoles. I may also restart a FO4 run with some new mods, there's been a lot that has occurred in the FO4 universe since I last played.

I'm really enjoying the shelters, at least the small one that was free. As a fallout 1st subscriber I get the lobby for free and I bought the atrium using my atoms.

I'm actually finding the utility shelter that came free is the best of the lot, a bit on the small side but it's just enough to build on, the other rooms seem to large at least for me. I'll be pulling back once Cyberpunk comes out later this week - especially since FO76 won't have any new content for a while.

Its been a while since I posted here, I've spent a fair amount of my game playing time in Fallout 76 lately. Bethesda had started the Scorched Christmas event, started before Christmas and running through January 4th. This has been an extended event, something that I haven't seen before.

It was an enjoyable event, and thanks to the extended timeframe, I was able to secure nearly all of the rare loot, Since I have everything now, there's little point in pushing through and playing for that sake. I've also been working on season 3 of the legendary run, I'm at level 38 out of 100, seems kind of low, and with every increase in rank, the score needed for the next level increases. That is the first half is much easier to grind through then the second. Like the scorched event, Season 3 is an extended run which will expire in March. I have a solid 2 1/2 more months to rank up, so fairly confident that I'll get to rank 100

I've also spent more time with the shelters, and I may post some pictures, I'm really happy with the first shelter which leads into the second and that's coming along nicely, though I may re-work that yet again.

I achieved a major achievement .

I reached level 300, I started the game back in March and April and I generally play every day. It may not be a long time each day at this point (waiting for new content), but I'm still active. I was grinding pretty hard farming XP these past two weeks as the goal was in sight. It really doesn't give me much and there's others who even higher but I'm really happy to get to this point. One thing it does give me is the another Legendary Perk slot to use. I may add a SPECIAL card, so I can add up to 5 points to a given SPECIAL category.

I didn't think I'd be this involved or dedicated to the game, and when I started out last year I wasn't looking to level 300 or anything just play the game and weather pandemic storm. Even now, I enjoy this game more then some of the newer titles like Cyberpunk

Overall I’m enjoying F4 more than Cyberpunk. Yes, I am repeating myself but I find most of the F4 side quests to be much more immersive and interesting with interesting characters that I find myself vested in (even on 2nd and 3rd walkthroughs) more so than CP77‘s break heads and collect XP side quests. From an action standpoint, they are fun quests, but they lack the immersion of a good story and feel shallow, which is Fallout 4’s tour de force, at least for me.

I've been looking for this specific plan now, since Bethesda announced it as a reward. Super Mutant Tubes. The only way to get it, is by doing Daily Ops, but I don't play those and even then the odds are low .08% all the way up to a full 1% The only other way to get it, is by buying the plan from a player-vendor.

I've been on the look out for one these bad boys for months, and today I stumbled upon a seller having the plans - he had one for 9,000 caps - a heft amount especially since I had bought some legendary weapons the past few days. I'm all but cleaned out cap wise at this point.

Its kind of silly, but its something that I've been wanting in my camp/shelter for a while. I'll now start gearing up to farm caps for the next week or so, as I'm all out of caps at this point

In other news, I decided to change my character, I've been on a heavy gunner build (lots of strength with heavy gunner perks), but prior to OneWasteland, I was a rifle build. Since I completed season 3 of the legendary run, and I got past level 300 (something I was grinding for, partly because I get an extra legendary perk slot). I needed to change things up.

Its nice to be playing outside of my power armor at this point and while it takes work to take down most opponents, its re-introduced a freshness to the game.

Is there a respec option, or do you just build up the new spec you desire?
