Now you've done it, possibly brought down the wraith of the MacRumor beer affictinatos on your head!! Here, let me start. :):) Are you a Bud/Miller Lite-kinda guy? Belgium Whites are pretty darn good. Maybe the problem is unrefined taste buds, a case of lowendbeerlover. ;) :p

I like Bavarian beer mostly though there are beers up north that are OK too.

I like all the Star Wars films, but for different reasons. For the purposes of the poll, I voted A New Hope. That movie is perfect.

I even like the prequels. Episode I had Darth Maul! Ray Park doing all sorts of flips with his double bladed lightsaber? C'mon, that's just cool. It had arguably the best lightsaber duel of the series.

With Episode II, if you remove every scene with Padme and Anakin, the movie isn't half bad. I've actually watched the movie where I skip every scene that they're in together, and the movie is worlds better. Lucas had no idea what he was doing with the two of them. That said, the battle at the end, Yoda with a lightsaber, Obi-Wan tracking Jango Fett... it was all pretty cool!

Episode III had Order 66, Obi-Wan vs. Anakin, Mace vs. Palpatine, and your usual death, destruction, and mayhem. Good film!

I also really like The Clone Wars and Rebels. Dave Filoni has proven that he knows what he's doing. The voice acting is spot on, the stories are very well written, and all in all, the shows are very entertaining! I've always said that if Clone Wars Anakin was the one we saw in the films, we would have really liked him and it would have made his fall a lot harder to take.

I'll grant that Episodes I-III are full of cool images, although some are CGI excessive. I think it's the story that makes critics like myself stick their fingers down their throats, not the overall story framework, but how Anakin was portrayed from start to finish. He was a weak, gullible, pathetic figure laying there on the edge of the lava, definitely not Jedi Knight material. ;) Maybe one day these three episodes will get a reboot to correct their failings.. :):)

Just to bad these were turned into Sat morning cartoon characters instead of serious deadly threats.

My favorite part was 3PO's head attached to a battle droid body. "DIE Jedi dogs.:mad: Oh...what did I say?"

Well, yeah. Ruin one of the most badass villain of all time with a back story that included an inferiority complex. Always gotta prove them wrong. He doesn't become bad ass until 20 years later, when shows he's got nothing to prove.

His moment of redemption, sending Palpatine on his merry way. I'll critique that Vader's change in perspective just seems to erupt. Up to the point where Luke cries out "Father!", he seemed just fine with letting his son perish. Could this transition have been handled better? :):)

My favorite is still The Empire Strikes Back, for various reasons. It was the first movie I saw in the theaters with my father. I loved everything about it, the story/struggle, the vehicles and characters, the music, everything.

I am actually looking forward to watching 4-6 again in preparation for the new movie. I had surgery recently and loaded up my iPad with all 6 Star Wars movies. I may have asked for more morphine to get through 1 and 2, didn't make it to 3. I'm definitely looking forward to the new one.

It's hard to express emotions in full body armor.;)

I bet it was eating him up inside to see Palpatine lighting up his boy. Torn between his loyalty to his master and the love he bears his son, for the first time in decades he is indecisive. Luke finally acknowledging the familial bond tipped the scale in his favor. No longer indecisive, he knows the only way to save his boy is by killing the Emperor. That's how I like to think of it.

I haven't seen the movie in a long time, so I remember exactly. But if they cut between Palpatine lighting up Luke and Vader's mask a few times, it would convey a sense of that Vader has a tough decision to make.

A New Hope (remastered). It just looks and sounds incredible, and of all the self-contained stories I like that one the most too.
They're all good though. I saw Episode 2 for the first time recently and I think it's not that bad. Same with all of them really - Episode 1 is by far the weakest but I enjoyed the world.

Hmm, remastered has the Han/Greedo awkward shooting scene and CGI Jabba the Hutt :( I much prefer the original. I can just imagine 1998 Lucas staring at the producers - he's never been afraid of holding a man's gaze - and saying that the remasters are going to be the most significant visual event since Quantum Leap. He didn't say that lightly, but I don't think it turned out as well as he thought it would.

Episode 2 just has green screens as far as the eye can see. The whole Padme/Anakin love scenes are cringy, what with petulant Anakin being wild like an enraged shark; his bulky totem beating a seductive rhythm. C'mon, George - learn to write dialogue. And the awful CGI scene with 3PO's head/body getting welded onto droids had my head in my hands.

I think Lucas made a mess of the prequels - though I'm sure he would prefer the term 'dreamweaver'.

Watched Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back tonight.
More somber than IV, less fun, but carries more weight. I remember walking out of the theater at the original release with my wife saying "downer"... After re-watching Return of th Jedi, TESB is my third favorite Star Wars movie. :):)

* Leia/Hans sexual tension.
* Hans risks his life for Luke on Hoth after Luke barely escapes a Wampa.
* Battle of Hoth (filmed in Finse, Norway).
* Luke, R2D2 heads for Dagoba System to train under Yoda.
* Hans, Leia, Chewy, and C-3PO barely escape Hoth hiding in an asteroid field/asteroid cave.
* C-3PO is annoying (like Data after he got his emotion chip)... ;)
* Luke sees a vision and fights Vader in a cave, with his own (Luke's) face.
* Vader is a lousy leader rewarding failure with death.
* Hans, Leia, Chewy, and C-3PO go to see Lando Calrissean in Cloud City on the Planet Bespin. They are followed by bounty hunter, Bobba Fett. They are captured by Vader after Lando misleads them.
* Luke senses danger and leaves Yoda to save Hans and Leia before his Jedi training is complete.
* Obiwan says something about "all our hopes", but Yoda says "there is another".
* Hans is tortured and then frozen in carbon by Vader as a test to freeze Luke for the Emperor. The plan is to catch Luke at Cloud City and turn him to the dark side or freeze him to take to the Emperor..
* Before he is frozen, Leia tells Hans she loves him and he replies, "I know."
* When Vader decides to take Leia and Chewy on his ship, and with Luke walking into a trap, Lando turns against Vader and the Empire, helping them escape in the Milenium Falcon.
*Bobba Fett takes frozen Hans to retrieve Jabba the Hut's bounty.
* Luke fights Vader, loses a hand, learns the awful truth, refuses to accept Vader's offer to join him before falling out the bottom of Cloud City.
* Leia, C-3PO, R2D2, Chewy, and Lando retrieve Luke, who is dangling on an antenna.
* The malfunctioning hyper drive becomes a bad joke. Turns out Vader has arranged for the drive to be deactivated, learned by R2D2 from the city's computer, and he fixes it just in time to evade capture.
* After rendezvousing with the Rebels, Lando, and Chewy take off in the Millenium Falcon going after Bobba Fett to save Hans. Leia, Luke, R2D2, and C-3PO plan on meeting them at the rendezvous point in Episode VI.

Still great fun and good humour though, nice running joke with Han and his hyperdrive ("it's not fair ..."/"no lightspeed?")

"Shut him up or shut him down!"
"BUT SIIIIIR!"

And how 3PO interrupts Han & Leia's kiss (isolated the reverse power coupling?) always makes me laugh.

The asteroid field scene is great, the score at the end is soaring and sensational with those strings and that transition to the credits out of nowhere.

I always finish the film thinking 'that's my favourite'. But the same happens with Episode IV and VI as well ... I guess maybe there's no right answer

I had to overlook the running joke about the hyper drive and C-3PO's exaggerated emotions (as compared to Episode 4). While I could see her sarcasm during her impromptu rescue in Episode 4, in Episode 5, I thought during their escape from Hoth in the Millenium Falcon, Leia's tone sounded more like a nagging wife complaining about the bucket of bolts, haranguing Hans while he's trying to keep them alive. I still liked it. :)

I just noticed you missed a couple of films off your poll. These have got to be up there with The Phantom menace.

The Return of the Jedi (1983)- The struggle between Luke and his Father, combined with Luke's faith and Palpitine's over confidence has to make this my second favorite Star Wars! :)

This episode really benefited from the added scenes of celebration around the Galaxy with the Rebel victory. However, at the end, I disagree with changing out the old wiser Anakin with the young flawed Anakin, after all we see the old Obiwan, right? ;)

*Vader arrives at the new Death Star (TDS) being built in orbit around the Forest Moon of Endore.
*R2D2 and C-3PO are on Tatooine visiting Jaba the Hut helping Luke rescue Hans. Robot torture chamber, stupid. Too many muppets.
*Bounty hunter (Leia) brings in Chewy and ask for bounty. Lando is all ready there. She unfreezes Hans, they are caught. Leia is turned into Jabba's play thing. Luke confronts Jaba, kills the Rancor, feeds henchmen to the Sarlacc in the Pit of Carkoon, Leia strangles Jabba, and they blow up Jabba's pleasure yacht.
------------
*They leave Tatooine, Luke in his X-Wing, the others in the Millenium Falcon.
*Luke returns to the Degoba system. Yoda dies from old age, but before he does, he tells Luke he has nothing more to learn, but he will only be a Jedi after facing Vader. Obiwan appears and gives Luke a pep talk. Luke believes there is still goodness in his Father. Luke learns that he has a twin sister, and realizes it's Leia.
-----------
*The Emperor arrives on the TDS. He still has plans to turn Luke. They know about the Rebel Fleet amassing in a nearby system.
*The rebels discover the location of the TDS, that the Emperor is overseeing its final construction, they believe it is not yet operable, and it is protected by an energy field originating on the Endore Forest moon. The plan is to deactivate the field and surprise attack TDS. General Lando will lead the attack on TDS in the Millenium Falcon. General Solo, Chewy, Leia, R2D2, and Luke head for the moon.
*Vader on the Command ship realizes the shuttle has Luke on it, but allows it to land on the moon, telling the Capt to "leave them to me". Vader reports to the Emperor, who knows everything, including that Luke's compassion will be is undoing, he will come to Vader who will bring him before the Emperor. The Emperor asks Vader if he is clear about the plan. Yup.
--------------
*Speeder chase.
*Leia is seperated from others, makes friends with an Ewok (little teddies). The others are captured by Ewoks, but they regard C-3PO as a God and all become friends.
*Luke tells Leia "the force is strong in my family, my father has it, I have it, and my sister has it", looking at her. Lightbulb!! ;) He tells her he must face Vader.
*Vader lands on the moon, Luke surrenders to him and tries to convince Vader to ge good! No dice. But you can imagine he's thinking about it...as they return to The Emperor. The know-it-all Emperor has anticipated every Rebel move.
-------------
*Hans and Leia are surprised by troops on the moon and are captured. An imperial calls them "rebel scum".
*When the Rebels come out of light speed, the shield is still up and chaos eruptes among them.
*The Ewoks counter attack on the moon.
*The fully operational Death Star blows up a rebel Capital ship. Realizing TDS is operational General Ackbar calls for a general retreat but Lando urges more time to allow the shield to be dropped.
------------
*On the Command ship as the Emperor rubs in the impending rebel defeat, Luke finally grabs a light saber and fights, while still expressing optimism about his Dad. Then he refuses to fight, until Vader realizes there is a sister! Luke beats his Father down while the Emperor cackles. He still refuses the Emperor who decides it's time to kill Luke.
*On the moon, the shield falls, the attack on the TDS commences as Palpitine fries Luke. Anakin can't take any more, finally redeeming himself suffering fatal injuries, by tossing The Emperor over the side. Before dying he tells Luke "Tell your sister you were right!
*Lando and Wedge blow up TDS, Luke takes his father's body to the Forest Moon, Leia finally tells Hans that Luke is her brother. Hans and the Galaxy celebrate the passing of the Empire as they know it.

The first film (Episode IV, A New Hope) will always be my favorite. I'll never forget seeing it for the first time in a packed theater in June 1977, one of only two times I've had to sit in the first row. Like 2001, the special effects were a revelation, and the characters and story were so compelling. The Empire Strikes Back is a close second.
