We don't pay per-message here in Japan; unlimited SMS/MMS costs $3/month and we just pay for data transfer (but unlimited data is $45/month so it doesn't actaully amount to anything) ... The flipside is that our calling plans are HORRIBLE and we end up paying $0.40/minute - yes, per MINUTE - for most of our outgoing calls.
Are you talking about SMS/MMS or mobile e-mail? The SMS/MMS system in Japan is horrendous. It's not even compatible among carriers, which makes me wonder who would use it instead of their own mobile e-mail?

As for the calling plans, don't they (i.e. DoCoMo, Softbank, and au) offer package plans like the U.S. carriers do, like $30/mo. and up to 300 anytime minutes?

oh for ****s sake. its not about not being able to afford it. it's about being billed for 1000's of minutes that I don't use or want. I don't care about the data prices, they are fine. Its the retarded voice plans

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has been saying this. I don't even use half of my minutes each month. Of the 450, I only use about 200. I text a lot and use a lot of data though. I have no problem paying $30 for data and $15 for text. But the $39.99 voice plan is ABSOLUTELY UNFAIR! The FCC needs to get involved in this. All of my friends pay less than me for voice (many have prepaid or family plans). Back in 1999, when I bought my first cell phone (Ericsson LX788), I had a $19.99 voice plan with AT&T. Up until about three years ago, AT&T always had a $29.99 voice plan. Today, everyone with an iPhone is forced to have at least a $39.99 voice plan. The FCC needs to stop this unfair requirement! Remember, when Microsoft got in trouble for packaging Explorer with Windows? AT&T needs to stop packaging the $39.99 plan with the $30.00 iPhone data plan! Consumers should have a CHOICE, a choice of a $29.99 plan and a $19.99 plan!

And yeah, I agree... 185 degree coffee is way to hot to serve to anyone.

WOW 185 degrees!!!! Thanks for finding this info, I'm going to read all of it when I get home tonight.

That'll be $25,000 please. :)

Oh is that all? It's just pocket change :p
I wonder if that includes any physical therapy that may be needed after the surgery.

Consumers should have a CHOICE

And they do. You have the CHOICE of NOT signing up for AT&T. You have a CHOICE to go on a different network. You have the CHOICE of not owning a cell phone. You have the CHOICE to pick a pay-as-you-go contract.

The way I see it, you have plenty of choices in front of you, however you decide to sign a contract... yeah... a CONTRACT, then complain about it. People who do that (aka, you) are just beyond me. Why the h*** would you ever sign something if you are just going to b**** about it? You had the CHOICE to not sign your contract. My god, you act like AT&T and the iPhone were forced upon you by a higher power.

Pick a different phone and go to the Jesus network. Oh wait, it will be the same story with you.

Epic Fail here bud, you are so wrong, i award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul...

Ok you CAN still get the 29.99 plan...

And also if your hearing impaired you can get JUST the data...

but here is the thing... its the #1 phone right know, you know this i know this and apple and ATT know this...

So if you don’t want to pay what ATT / Apple wants, there’s many more that will...
(Remember apple holds their products quite high, so they have a minimum standards on what services are allowed with it)

$ 40 / 450 min works out to be .09 cents per minute, (that’s not including nights and weekends, mobile to mobile, roller over so forth and so on)

Doesn’t seem too bad if you ask me!

I'll reiterate something I already said.

I find it nearly impossible to believe that someone made the decision to get an iPhone (in the US) based on having MMS. It is so far down on the feature list (at least for me) to even have been a consideration.

Those bitching about MMS - in ALL honesty - how pertinent was MMS to your decision to get the iPhone?

If they had decided no MMS for the iPhone at all - would you have still bought it?

Because right now all the ranting is equiv. to telling a small child that they're going to disneyworld this year and every day the child whines that they want to go today - and is it time yet? When will they go? All the other cool kids have been going to disneyworld? When is it MYYYYY turn?

It's mind boggling how this can be a DAILY gripe spawning so many threads and posts. And now talk of lawsuits? RIDICULOUS. The iPhone and AT&T are delivering EVERYTHING they promised (to date) for those that purchased it.

People are so impatient. The summer is not over. And much like waiting for any utility (repair person, etc) it shouldn't be all that surprising to anyone who has every waited for a service call that it will be at the last possible moment.

When you get scheduled for a service call and they say between 3-6pm - when does the guy (or woman) show up? 3pm? HARDLY EVER lol.

Guess what? If the courts let this get through and Apple can't appeal it, know what they'll do?

They'll just remove the ability to do MMS from the iPhone. Then you'll never get it regardless of what AT&T does.

Because these idiots decided to sue Apple for something over which they have no control, if they win, they won't get MMS, and if they lose, they eventually will.

I don't think that you need any more reason to shorten your sentences. With MMS would you have a picture of a television everywhere you would normally have typed "tv"?

How can Apple even be sued in this situation? It's not their fault... they have MMS running on the iPhone in other countries (CANADA! :D), it's clearly AT&T's fault.

But, the filing alleges: "AT&T is not a carrier which offers MMS! Of course, AT&T is the only carrier in the United States used by the iPhone. In other words, AT&T's towers do not support MMS."

If they would like to fly me down there with my iphone, Ill show them that Ive had MMS working on mine for the last several months......

Stop complaining

I think it's amazing that so many complaints have been made about other people complaining.

I was one of those people that bought a 3GS thinking that MMS would be available in the near future. It wasn't the only reason why I purchased the iPhone, however, it was a motivating factor. My old phone had MMS that I frequently used. Using e-mail is not a practical idea considering the amount of texting that I do. Keeping messages in a thread is ideal and adding the ability to do MMS adds to the thread instead of switching between different apps.

That being said, Apple did state that it would be available in late summer and summer is not over so I'm not giving up yet. We are in mid summer with late summer right around the block, if it doesn't come by late summer, Apple AND AT&T would be at fault for false advertisement.

So let me get this straight. You purchased the 3GS expecting to be able to do MMS shortly after the purchase, yet you fully recognize the fact that Apple and AT&T both said late summer? That makes no sense.

Its called "hope."
Obama's got it.
At&t is stealin' it.

But you've got to understand the mindset regarding "late summer" to some of these people. I've had arguments with members on what is late summer (back in JUNE!!), and they were saying it's late summer in July, so we should be having it soon!!!

Ah yeah I get it. Some people think AT&T was referring to when their summer is 'late', not when the actual calendar summer becomes late.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16) Hopefully one of these fiascos will be enough to push Apple over the edge and finally end the exclusivity deal they've got with those clowns.

A dream come true if it ever happens!!! I hate AT&T and all of their customer unfriendly actions and self-motivated / pure profit driven beliefs!

Name one US network that would do things differently than AT&T. Verizon? Sprint? T-Mobile? Lol.

Why cant people just be patient?
Just because your (in general, not you OP) summer is over, and you're heading back to the school, does not mean that the summer is over.
It has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with principle.

If your company can't do something, don't blatantly advertise that you can.

Marketing 101.
