Apple's Refurb Store is great for that - and you can still get AppleCare+, if you want it.

I just bought a refurb 13" 2015 MacBook Pro from there last week. Those tend to get snapped up fast.. but there are plenty of 2016 and 2017 models there, which sounds like is more in line with what you want.

+1 for refurbs. Still happy with my mid-2014 13" that I bought refurb end of 2014. Paid £1600 for it. Refurb allowed me to drop from an i7 to an i5 but get 16GB RAM and 1TB storage for that.

15" 2.6GHz with 32G RAM and 1TB SSD ~ 5100USD in EU store - I can't believe that they are trying to rip off people so bad. No single USB-A (total annoyance) or SD card reader + think bezels for such a 2018 laptop in this category. Half useless touch bar added at the top for users to enjoy and removed one of the greatest Macbook feature - Magsafe. Furthermore majority of people (who don't need 32G or RAM) would be affected with power hungry DDR4. Really a sad picture what they have managed to do with a great laptop line.. I would really try to be positive here, but about what?? 3rd gen butterfly? They are simply unable to provide what people are screaming for as they (as usual) know what is best for us.

Wait... do you really think iFixit is going to say anything positive about Apple?

WOW!

Hope the next 15 days are not dusty days, as some would say...
iFixit with their tear downs speak as they find. The same applies to iFixit repair guides. As an example the mid 2011 21.5" iMac was given a repairability score of 7/10 whereas the late 2012 21.5" iMac was given a reparability score of 3/10
https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel_21.5"_EMC_2428
https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel_21.5"_EMC_2544

iFixit provide accurate assessments on the reparability of Macs and the higher the score the more the end user can repair without the expense of taking an obsolete machine to Apple. Macs and the premium price that the consumer pays upon purchase it is only reasonable to expect longevity which is not governed by soldered in RAM etc.

Especially when there’s plenty of anti-Apple trolls ready to jump on the hate bandwagon, merely echoing the complaints they’ve heard and seen others make.

Now if you want to talk about evidence, there is none for this. It's anecdotal, and yet it's good enough for those who see nothing in this keyboard debate. At least those with keyboard problems are using themselves, and each other, as a basis for their evidence, while those who talk about a troll conspiracy against Apple are trying to read the minds of people who post negatively about Apple. I'll take the word of the users with broken keyboards.

And it doesn't bother Apple apologists that Apple actually does have data on failure rates and keeps it hidden from its loyal customers. Apologists see it as good business and smart strategy for Apple to remain silent. Weird. Now we have a new model out and none of us even knows if the keyboard is more sturdy.
Interesting you chose to respond to my post. You obviously saw yourself in the quoted text and felt compelled to post a defensive response.

I post a generic statement about anti-Apple hate and those, who without any direct knowledge, merely echo the complaints they’ve heard and seen others make. And here you come, right on cue, saying, you don’t know why I post negativity about Apple, you can’t read my mind.

Well I don’t know who you are or why you’re here, but I don’t need to read your mind; you just outed yourself.

Go away, back under your bridge.

Not buying one until they put the physical function row back with latest gen cpu and even then I’ll probably buy something else considering how terrible the value proposition is. Still with the weedy graphics Apple come on. Nice to see Apple get in fast delivery dates. I suppose that will happen when you don’t hype people up and have flashy keynotes.

That magical moment when the notebook is more advanced than the pro tower.
Looking at Geekbench, the MBP (i7-7920HQ) is already faster than the Mac Pro (8 core, E5-1680) in Single Core. 4626 v 3836
The MBP (i7-7920HQ) scores 15550 in Multi Core, if we assume a 50% increase, just from the 2 additional cores that would give ~23000 that is up there with the 8 core Mac Pro. The New MBP has the option of the i9-8950HK, this chip has already shipped in the Dell XPS 15 and Alienware laptops, Geekbench users are reporting Multi Core scores of ~26000 (one of 27658) that would make the MBP, a laptop as fast of the 12 core Mac Pro.
This new MBP i9 will certainly be faster in all respects than every Cheese Grater Mac Pro that ever shipped.
With only 6 cores MBP won't be able to match the iMac Pros in Multi Core scores.

I’ve already said “I’m sure there is/was a legitimate issue”, what more do you want from me?

My point was, and continues to be, that we can’t know the magnitude of the problem based on the self-reinforcing echo chamber of anecdotal postings on the internet, such as Reddit, MacRumors forums and Twitter. Especially when there’s plenty of anti-Apple trolls ready to jump on the hate bandwagon, merely echoing the complaints they’ve heard and seen others make.

The fact that Apple instigated a global repair programme belies everything you're saying.

It's so patently obvious that there's a significant issue, that's why the programme exits - i'm not sure why you can't see this.

2.9, 16GB, 1TB 15 inch is coming at 3500. Same laptop for 2017 was 3100. You have configured the 2.6 with 512GB. So for 2 cores there is a $400 jump. Is that worth it? Like I said not for my usage. A pro earning money out of it will definitely not mind. My work gives me Dell latitude so need the Mac for personal stuff like Lightroom etc. so from 2015 price has gone up $800 for similar configuration. I put it to touchbar and 2 additional cores. Does the DDR4 RAM cost more?
DDR4 RAM costs are insane.

That’s a pretty long-winded way of saying that you won’t be buying another MacBook ever.

Thanks for adding value to this forum. I already have a PC and for all the windows bashing it works fine. If more people leave for PC it will be bad for the MacOS and it’s already happening. I was only pointing out the huge price increase in the last 2 years. Touchbar could have definitely be avoided if not for the arrogance.
I hate Windows and I have money to buy any Mac. I don’t appreciate being price gouged, though. These prices are insulting.

If there were a Windows laptop with a decent trackpad, I would switch to a Windows laptop and install Linux. Every time I see a Windows laptop user, they have an external mouse because the built-in trackpad really sucks. They continue using external mice with MacBooks, as they never try the trackpad, assuming it’s unusable.

The only reason I’m not switching is the bad trackpad in Windows laptops. Otherwise, I would be running Linux on a Dell by now. I have no upgrade path from my 15” 2015 MacBook Pro. Apple has slaughtered the MacBook Pro as far as I’m concerned. It’s very sad.

The track pad is actually very good on the premium Windows laptops (Surface Book, XPS line, Lenovo etc) - at least since late 2016/17 driver updates. Previouosly I agree they were't great.

I also see people use mouses with their MacBooks but it doesn't mean they don't like the trackpad.

I just ordered a new 15" MacBook Pro. However my main laptop will likely remain a Surface Book 2. It has a decent trackpad. Maybe not as great as Apple's finest, but more than good enough to use without a mouse. Of course, YMMV

Will be interested to see the benchmarks as well as someone’s take on battery life. Will be looking forward more to the latter than the former.

I see folks in the airport with mouse and laptop on windows. I never see that wth MacBooks. Not once. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, but in my experience, that is a windows thing

Apple says it’s still committed to the MBP w/o touch bar. What if they’ve been working on a new line that essentially combines the MBA/MB/MBP w/o touch bar? I suppose it’s possible though my guess is they didn’t update the non-touch bar Mac right away to force some upsells. Of course they could also do that by making the specs not quite as good.

if you want to compare x future apple touchpad and other brand never be the same because it diff functionality. But if want to find good trackpad find ibm thinkpad. Running ubuntu todays not a bad choice this days.

i hate magic mouse 2. even battery is great o_O

I'll be your huckleberry. Ordered a 15" 2.6/16/1TB. The education discount plus 20% off Applecare and a free set of overpriced wireless Beats. Pretty fair deal for a new release. I can finally trash my 2013 with the horrible image retention. I could read my closed spreadsheet through my browser when reading MR.

Passed on the $199 leather sleeve though.

Apple is damned if they do and damned if they don't. When the 2016 MBP was released everyone complained it didn't support 32GB of RAM. The explanation given for it not doing so is the RAM was too power hungry. Now they offer 32GB of RAM and people are complaining that it's too power hungry.

I'm sure Apple has their reasons for using the higher power memory and I highly doubt it's because they object to memory which uses less power.

Apple is very arrogant indeed.

This must be the most expensive laptop in history. I just hope the cheaper MBs are coming soon.
Apple: we don’t need your business.
