Got them. Number 2 person in America to buy. After 15 years, the cords are gone. Picked them up at midnight from Apple 5th Ave in NYC.

Apple is simply using their own take on NFC with pairing Bluetooth for the initial device connection but iCloud service to setup all other devices : true vision

That is thinking different and offering tangible benefit to the end user.

False. They're using Bluetooth low energy that can detect the proximity of the device to sync. Just like how the iBeacons work. If it was NFC then the iPhone 5/5S/5C wouldn't be compatible with the AirPods but they are.

I'm surprised Apple missed an opportunity to customise them so they could become fashionable ear adornments as well.

You didn't read what I typed did you? I said "apple is using THEIR take" not actually using NFC.

I know all about Bluetooth and have been using Bluetooth headsets since the very first "honker" made by Ericsson who invented the technology back in the day with the Ericsson T18z/T28World and T36m. I've been around this tech all over and never owned a phone since without it! I've experienced all the pitfalls and interference especially since I travel TTC subway and there is always interference in a few stations when entering.

The first stereo connection I believe was at 386Kb/s and it was not great initially when implemented.

Actually Motorola was the very first company to offer "true wireless" stereo headphones prior to the Google purchase.

I cannot wait to try these AirPods but I personally refuse this whole Apple release an accessory in white first then in black. Apple had a big opportunity here to allow the same colours available in iPhone and iPad Pro to match. Perfect accessories.

Looking forward to reading the actual user reviews, not a paid tech site review on the Airpods. I think these will do really well.

I think if you are the kind of person who thinks every positive review must have been paid, then nothing is going to make a difference to you because even when these sites that you trust are going to come up with positive reviews, you will simply just say "they have been corrupted"

That's a big bag for those.

Hoping the comfort is suitable with mid range clarity.

I must ask those that have been listening to the AirPods. How loud are they in your ears with music volume way up? Will it disturb those around you within a conversational noise level?

I wear a tuk in the winter and it'll serve as noise cancellation by others sitting around me; hopefully.

I think you "Think" to much and clearly self imposed something about me you're not in a position of authority to do so. I would rather have read a user review based on Their experience. Mainly being their more open minded and not worried about page views or click bait articles re-hashing the same thing said on every article. And yes, I have read ALL the tech site reviews long before the Airpods released.

I'm skeptical and open minded in the same respect, that said I appreciate third party reviews over paid tech sites. They offer more in terms of honesty and can be brutal. Good or bad, I'm open to it.

Now that I've listened to them for a few hours I have to say the sound quality for music is WAY better than I anticipated. Satisfying bass thump, clear highs and mids. I haven't listened to the EarPods in years, but this is much better than I remember them to be.

For comparison, my main headphones are the B&O H6, which are the best headphones I've ever tried. I was expecting these to be solely for podcasts like I mainly use my Backbeat Fits, but I am genuinely enjoying listening to music on these.

Glad to hear these sound better. Like the current EarPods do you need to push them in a bit to get the bass or is the seal better with the AirPods?

Do I see USB-A only? Com'on Apple, if you play your (very unwise, to put it diplomatically) games with connectors, at least be so polite to your customers that you provide cables compatible with all your bloody products!
I guess Apple assumes you'll just use the charging brick that came with the iPhone you bought the Airpods for.

With all these great user reviews coming in, I can't wait to get them soon! :D

Quick question - Say if I wanted to play a track, and share one AirPod with a friend sitting next to me, and other with me, will there be a lag? Or is it do-able?

Reviews say they sound the same as EarPods , I'm hoping they are better, I'll know in a few hours . If they sound better I'll keep them

NFC is not designed for ranges beyond 2-3 centimetres.

This is intentional, as it means that even with multiple NFC cards in the area (for example) - communication is only possible with one that is almost physically touching.

On the question of having to use Siri to control volume etc, one thing I've found is you can change double-tap meaning Siri, to double-tap meaning Play/Pause. So that's an easy control for that bit anyway.

i don't understand how people can wear tampon looking strings in their ears. Of course you guys aren't audiophiles. These sit on your ear don't expect anything wonderful.
I love apple products but this is just sad to me. Sorry for people that actually think these are designed well. Worst product I've seen from apple as of late.
Much better options out there for 150$(jaybird freedoms).
The only thing these have going for them in the chip inside. Nothing else

Thats a fantastic explanation of Apples awful user experience 2016 i/O nightmare

Can't plug any of the phones Apple released this year or the wireless earphones into the latest Macbooks without buying and extra cable. What an awful mess.

It's not an awful mess at all. I bought 3x USB A to C adapters for £3.99. Stuck them on the end of the lightning cables in my travel bag and done. £3.99 is nothing when your paying £3,000 for a computer.

Now when I need to charge by plugging it into my computer. I just grab one of those cables. I don't throw a tantrum and hurl the whole fracking laptop at the wall because I'm using a cable with a dongle.

Indeed. These people have completely destroyed an once great and insightful community.

This times a thousand. This used to be a great resource. Now the signal to noise ratio is so high I rarely bother dropping in.
