Why do you have to plug them in from the bottom of the box to charge them? Can't that box freestand?
Oh, right, this product is from the guys who brought you this:

Yes, yes, very good complaint.

I'm assuming no option for In Store pick up or whatever if they have some stock, just show up and hope they have them?

I'm really looking forward to these. Glad the reviews so far are great.

So my new $2,500 laptop doesn't support the cable? Apple really hasn't thought this through.

Why are you so surprised? My new $4000 brand new laptop does not support my $1100 brand new iphone 7plus out of the box!!!!

It's weird people are dissing this design as it's seemingly an exact replica of the official Apple in ear headphones of a couple of years ago. My one's remote has non rounded edges, and mine were bought directly from Apple ages ago, but Apple did revise the design slightly (according to their official images on Apple.com, they rounded the control like yours) so maybe they changed the packaging at the same time? Has anyone bought any directly from Apple recently?

- Is the packaging mine came in - These are some of my favourite earbuds too. Earpods fall out of my ears, these are much better at blocking outside noise and have much, much better bass reproduction.

Every pair of Earpods I've got since are sitting in a drawer... They're audibly and ergonomically (for me) inferior to the earpods - hence Apple still selling them, and them still being much more expensive. $79 instead of the Earpod's $29
There has been 2 generations of the Apple in-ear headphones, yours is the first generation.

I've the had the second generation, very good and clear sound but tiny bass to a fault. Still, would've use them to this day if my cat hadn't chewed their wire.

Does a single tap do anything? Or is a double tap the only control that can be switched from Siri to stop/pause?

I'm hoping for Monday delivery. I'm in phoenix too and mine are at the TN hub right now.
Mine left Indianapolis at 6:43 PM. Air shipping is so funny. Picked up in ontario CA and then went to Indy and then coming back to Phoenix.

Just arrived in Phoenix. I'm thinking they'll get here tomorrow! Woot!

Finally! Thank you Apple. It will be a happy holiday season. I don't need to purchase and carry an additional charging dongle!! They plug directly into my new laptop - my Surface Pro 4. :p

And good bye to your privacy and security and advantages of the Apple ecosystem, but yes you saved yourself the two second one time cost of attaching and adapter. .

These things cost $219 in Canada... Wow...

All that "free" healthcare we get doesn't come cheap you know.

Your own fault for dropping $4000 on a laptop and not having a way of connecting any USB-A devices to it, USB-A still being be most predominant connector by far. Not an adapter, not another cable, nothing. You absolutely couldn't drop $20 on a way to connect most of this world's peripherals, but you could drop over $5000 in bleeding edge laptop and phone.

Of course, in real life this doesn't apply, but we still get these kinds of posts.

Hahah we have similar cats. :D The bass is odd in mine, I find it's wussy if I insert them as I would normally but is strong *only* if I push them really far into my ear canal, much further than I've done with other earphones, to the extent it feels very weird until used to it. The sound quality is so different depending on how they're seated that I suspect they get crappy bass for some users just due to different shaped ears. I guess there's always the equaliser in iTunes too.. shame that doesn't work on a system level. :/

Does it what made it sound like that?

The mess is the i/o on the hardware Apple released this year. Phone that can't be plugged into the laptops they released a month later without an additional cable. No congruence whatsoever. Laptops that are all USB C, literally everything else they ship comes bundled with USB A cables :D

It's called a transition period, and they're never perfect. There were four choices and after analyzing the market a decision was made so the greatest number of people could charge their AirPods.

Option 1: Include a USB A cable for the billions of people who have a USB A charger of some kind, i.e. a pre 2016 Mac or PC, or any other USB A wall charger (Apple or any other manufacturer). Result on MR: Wah... along with stomping of feet, and tiny whines about Apple not serving their (relatively) small number people that have a 2016 MBP who now have to buy a cable or $4 adapter. Apple is doomed, TC should be canned, buh-blah, buh-blah, buh-blah.

Option 2: Include a USB C cable for the (relatively) small number of lucky people that have a 2016 MBP. Result on MR: Wah... along with stomping of feet, and tiny whines about there being a few billion people who only have devices with USB A charging capability (computers and USB A wall chargers) who now have to buy a cable or $4 adapter. Apple is doomed, TC should be canned, buh-blah, buh-blah, buh-blah.

Option 3: Include both USB A and USB C cables. Well, that's dumb as rocks and a load on the e-waste situation. Still, because of that, on MR there will be: Wah... along with stomping of feet, and tiny whines about Apple being wasteful and not sensitive to the environment. Apple is doomed, TC should be canned, buh-blah, buh-blah, buh-blah.

Option 4: Include no cables; and even reduce the price. Result on MR: Wah... along with stomping of feet, and tiny whines about Apple being cheap and greedy and not caring about their customers because people now have to use the a USB A to lightning cable they probably have laying around, or, buy a cable. Apple is doomed, TC should be canned, buh-blah, buh-blah, buh-blah.

Mine just showed up in the Louisville sorting facility ( where I live), so I'm hoping they show up tomorrow as well! I can't imagine it will take them an entire day to sort them and deliver them down the road to my house lol.

*20 minutes standing ovation*

Do I see USB-A only? Com'on Apple, if you play your (very unwise, to put it diplomatically) games with connectors, at least be so polite to your customers that you provide cables compatible with all your bloody products!

Now now, we have next year that they'll probably be rolling that out. Think of all the customers who haven't upgraded to the latest MBP. Also, everyone who has an iPhone already have a power adapter with that USB type-A port already on them.

Thank you for having sense. Sometimes I get worried that there's no one here but the whiners and the one-liners with the oh so hilarious dongle/watch band/courage jokes. It's like some of these people are extremely spoiled and either don't remember or never experienced s technological transition period before.

I still remember my father having to buy a parellel to USB adapter for our printer back in the day. If only he knew about these forums back then, he could have whined about it!

You should be awarded one of those t-shirts they're giving to their employees this year. While for them it looks like an insult, for you, damn fine cheerleader, it would be like a Nobel prize.

Uhm.. all of Apple's existing customers are still going to be using USB-A only laptops save for the few with new MacBook / Pro laptops. The very select few that own a new MacBook / Pro will either already own the Lightening to USB-C cables or USB-A to C adapters or purchase them.

As USB-C replaces the past two decades of USB-A infrastructure there will be an increasing inclusion of USB-C cables. But, that time is not now.

Nice! Yeah, hopefully. I'm tempted to have them hold them at a facility so that I can pick them up. Not working the next two weeks since I'm a teacher.
