Not in '16 or '17.....maybe in '18 when and if they go to amoled.
I'm in complete agreement on that.

Apple is tooling up for some major feats of manufacturing, which no one is going to be able to match (because honestly, some of the these manufacturing techniques cost more than some nations have).

I've never understood the constant criticism of the bands on the back. Is this really something that keeps people awake? I've never once looked at the bands and thought, "man, the phone would so much better without them." I mean, if that's what you're complaining about, you're basically saying the phone can't get much better, it seems.

I don't think it keeps people awake, but I bet if you asked people which they thought looked better - an iPod without those lines, or an iPhone with them, most would say the iPod.

Which in short I thinks ultimately where they would like the iPhone design to end up - its probably what they think is the best design they can currently come up with, without the additional restraints imposed by the phone.

The antenna bands and protruding lens on iPhone 6 were examples of poor design and a real mess.really ugly.no one can argue with that fact.
so this is a definitive improvement if true.
I just don't know why they still can't use a more slick antenna band at edges like Note 5..

I will be getting the iPhone 7 no matter what but I gotta say I was a little disappointed when I read this rumor and looking through some of the comments, it looks like I'm not the only one. Making the camera flush and removing the lines on the back (why couldn't they be more color matched in the 1st place?) is a good start but IMO its not quite enough. The design of the iPhone 6 / 6S is nice but for the iPhone 7, I want something more fresh.

Here is my concept design I made back in December (https://www.behance.net/gallery/32427079/iPhone-7-concept), it may not be everyones taste but at least its different.

..funny, a very reliable source tell ME that the camera bump will become far more pronounced. That the back will feature a zebra pattern to camouflage the antenna lines, and that it will include various busy protrusions and possibly cysts. Jony believes this is the future of Apple design.
Now fully unhindered by anyone else's opinions, he is now known to tell people "You are not the boss of me!".

Why did the render in the article remove just two of the antenna lines, and not all of them?

EDIT: Yes, I see the rumor says the side and top lines will remain. Still, why not make a mockup without the lines at all?

What would the point be of a mockup that didn't match the rumor? If the rumor says bands at the top and bottom, the mockup should show that. Whether it's accurate or not doesn't matter. i can make a mock up without any bands at all, but what would that mean?

I want design that is different to the iPhone 6(s).
Not the same iPhone with a flush camera and without the antenna lines, and perhaps slightly smaller bezels.
We want a redesigned iPhone 7 that we all hate when the first pictures leak and we like when it is eventually released.
I did...
I want such an experience on the new iPhone 7. I don' t want a 6ss.
Then don't buy it when it comes out. I like the design.

I'm hoping for a much thinner, lighter iPhone. Each new iPhone should be as thin as possible, and I don't care about reducing internal battery life for thinness now we have cases that take care of the problem.

Fixing the protruding camera lens is a huge win for consumers. That alone will be enough for most people to upgrade.
what? I didn't see a sarcasm smiley so I assume you're being serious.....Please read what you wrote and explain this to me....what is the point of having a super thin phone if you want to solve a "battery issue" that would be caused....... by slapping it in a fat ugly battery case?

All this time, I thought Apple knew what we want..by telling us what we want. Apparently, they are lacking in that skill.

Yes, I like it too, now...
But I like the process of getting something new, that I like more than the iPhone 6.
Change is good.
Most people didn't like the leaked images of the iPhone 6 , wanted to keep the 5s design and don' t like changes.
And now most people like it and want to keep the iPhone 6 design. They even want the iPhone 4s back and the look of iOS 6. No freshness, just plain boring.

I think Jony is a master at making great new designs , that are still recognizable as Apple products.
I would like a completely new design for the iPhone 7, with new shapes and materials, I want to be surprised again.

It is a shame that a lot of traditional Apple customers can' t handle change.
It is even worse that the current management is the same. Keep everything steady, no surprises, etc.

I'm not bothered what they do on the back as I always use a case. I want a uniform colour front and back instead of the same old black or white.

Some people may have grown used to the 6, but i haven't heard ANYONE say they love it. The biggest compliment is that "it's really not as bad as people say." or "I'm going to put a protective cover on it anyway" That's faint praise. The design has actually aged far worse than any previous design.

It will look different to my 5S that I'll probably replace this year. I never understand this thing about it not being different enough from year to year - surely most people doing upgrade every year.

I doubt most people can afford to upgrade their iPhone every year.

I can take or leave the design but it's just so darn uncomfortable to hold. Without a case it's so slippery. Even with the Apple case it's still uncomfortable in the hand. I'd like to see them ditch the metal frame in favour of something more tactile.

What good is a thinner, lighter phone if you are just going to put one of those huge, heavy cases on it? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

For the people asking why it's not a major redesign. Remember the 4S to 5, the design was different, but still similar.
The 6S to 7 will be the same. A different design, but still similar.
Personally I love the 6S design, except for the camera sticking out. That is my only grievance with the 6S design.
Otherwise, great phone.
I would prefer the 7 to maintain the thickness of the 6S to improve battery but say la vie.

Only reason the 5 design could be so similar to the 4/4s design and still succeed was the increase in screen size. Obviously there were other changes (i.e. thinner, better processor, etc.), but the "hook" feature was the new screen size.

Now that Apple already offers multiple screen sizes on the iPhone, the 7 looking similar to the 6/6s seems highly unlikely. There would need to be a major, visual draw to the new device. I cannot think of anything other than a dual lens camera system right now, but there would HAVE to be something obvious that visually sets the phone apart while also adding significantly to the user experience. Otherwise, no one will upgrade.

Someone joked earlier about having to "let everyone know I have the new iPhone..." but that is he truth IMO.

MEMO to Jony: I've you are going to have bands *anywhere* on the phone, at least color key them so they blend in????? How is this that difficult? They DO NOT enhance the look of the phone. Unless Apple figured everyone would put the phone in a case anyway, and who cares, it was dumb.

EDIT: And Steve never would have let the protruding camera fly.

The 4 is probably my favorite iPhone design. In an interview, Jonny Ive mentioned that that design didn't work well when blown up to current iPhone sizes.

Interesting, I've never seen that, do you know the source?
It really is not the same as a phone case. Who puts a case on a watch...?

It's the same. Everyone just accepts cases on phones for whatever reason.

Taste is subjective.
Apple sold loads of iphone 6(s+) ' s.
Far more than previous models.
I like it a lot more than the 5 and 4.
I like the round shape, and the smaller chins compared to the 5 and 4.
The antenne lines on the white silver and black spacegrey are not obtrusive to me, they make the back less boring(don' t like the gold white combo though).
I hate the obtrusive camera though.
But if the iphone 7 is another iphone 6, without the lines, flush lens. Apple has lost it and the downfall will be complete.

At the end of the day, the iPhone 7 will look identical to the 6 and 6S at a glance.

Apple really knows and has the power to milk the same old look for years.

No wonder they make so much profit.

Nothing fresh and new this time around...
