Don't need the new iPad 3 .... but I want! Here I Go Again! Living on poverty level income makes it tuff to keep up to date with the latest greatist most groovy Apple products. Apple hardship program now needed.

Phew, they are good at getting my money. And I even wish there was more to give.

Why aren't people asking the important quetsions? Since we have a new double resolution screen, what graphics chip does it have, and how good is it? Whats the ram? Besides the processor, the most important hardware is ram. So is it finally 1 GB? And how does the screen look? I know its double the resolution, but that doesn't tell me if the screen looks good or not, contrast wise, color wise, and brightness wise. Now, waiting for answers....:)

Watch for an iFixit teardown on March 16th.

It's a quad-core graphics processor, the quad core version of the dual-core in the iPad 2 from what I've read.

Doesn't make much sense. Since you don't currently have an iPad, how can you quantify your comment? You have no frame of reference to judge it vs. the first two versions. I have had both and same with iPhone 4 and 4s. In both instances I can say, in my opinion they are most certainly a refresh. Nice indeed, but nothing Earth shattering.

I think what the orig poster was implying, was that he doesn't care what anyone tries to imply about this new iPad not being a big improvement (since we didn't get 128gb, SD card slot, Tbolt output jack, A6, OS6, Sirius, etc). That its going to be his first Ipad, and he's pretty excited about it. Besides, who doesn't know someone with an iPad...or messed with one every chance they could? I'm sure that will be enough frame of reference for many. I feel the 3 will be obviously better within 5 min of using it.

And what he's saying about the 4 vs 4S... think of all the people who tried to say the 4S wasn't worth the extra money. Depends on the user, but for me...the 4S is a no brainier over the 4. He's basically saying the same may be said of the 3 vs 2, and how wrong that would be.

I thought Tim Cook's stage presence was fantastic today. I look forward to more of his keynotes.

Yeah, a few glitches here and there but otherwise he was pretty good, I was actually surprised... And I thought Phil Schiller was a lot better than normal, not feeling so staged, or choreographed.
I had commented in one of the threads before of the event that I never really liked their keynotes.

Apple seems to do the same with their software and their hardware: small steps between revisions...

Meaning that the difference between the iPad 1 and the iPad 2 was speed, and a camera, and the iPad 2 and the iPad 3 is again speed, better display, and better camera(s). Same with the iPhone. Between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s, it's faster with better cameras and Siri thrown in.

I bought the iPad 2 for the speed and camera, I bought the iPhone 4s because it was available unlocked. (I found 'Voice Command' from the iPhone 4 actually better in many regards than Siri)

Amazing how many people still think it's called "the new iPad"...even just a few pages back.

Order one online... "iPad"

Watch the end of the TV AD.... "iPad"

Look at the tabs on Apples site.... "iPad"

My order conformation says.... "iPad"

I think it might be "iPad"

End of story.

I had commented in one of the threads before of the event that I never really liked their keynotes.

I'm sorry that I didn't make it to a Steve Jobs keynote. I heard from people that made it to one that it was like magic, or like a revival meeting...

I sat through a Larry Ellison keynote and got a chance to see Ted Turner too. Both, a little less than great... A friend of mine was at an event from Bill Gates when the system bombed. He just kept on going (because early Windows crashed so much?).

Nice. Finally a solid iPad, first rate hardware, no sub-par components, cell architecture not in danger of going obsolete in a year...

Next up, add tactile feedback and/or a wacom digitizer layer, & on the software side, Siri, VOIP ...and finally get over the "photos and music" fixation and address iOS's sadly neglected video capabilities.

Then start making em somewhere other than China.

Finally managed to get through the whole procedure of buying a 64wifi on the UK store. It's worrying when you get the "oops, there's been a problem ...." after you've put in your card details. I missed the ipad 2 but do need a camera for skyping relatives overseas. I also read a lot so the retina display might be better for my old eyes.;)

Anyone interested in an iPad 1 with original Apple cover, all in very nice working condition with original box?:)

It's a quad-core graphics processor, the quad core version of the dual-core in the iPad 2 from what I've read.

According to PCWorld the A5X has a two (dual?) CPU cores but has a quad core graphic processor. :)

update: this is the description from iPad features page:

The dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2

Whatever, still want one :D

Could this be anymore of a shallow post?

Look I have the latest iPad !

How hard is that to get in your head that I have the latest and greatest iPad and I'm awesomer than you? ;)

You must be effing dumb and blind if you don't know people like this - just pop along to your local AppleStore next week and you will see a line of people just waiting to say "look at me I have the latest iPad". I won't be one of them but I don't think they are shallow in any way. I think they just like to have the latest Apple gadget. Good luck to them. If it makes them happy why not.

But I guess you are Mr Perfect on your planet troll.

I felt the Tim Cook intro would lead to something just a TAD more revolutionary. He's absolutely right, but in the wrong year: it is a PC supplanting desktops. I was on the edge of my seat for him to say something, like...

But, no. Figures. The moment Apple gets off its iAss and makes something like that, they shut down about every other desktop out there for 90% of the market, and conquer everything ever made.

I agree. The phrase "post PC era" doesn't apply quite yet. Perhaps Apple knows their future devices will bring in this era, but as of right now, that era has not come to the public.

The technology is there but not tied all together yet. When my cellphone has a dock that plugs into the network, a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse and provides me with my files and an OS to work and play on, then we have the post PC era. Until then, my business files and programs are on one computer at work. My gaming rig is at home. My on the go connection to media is in my pocket.

So even though the iPad is the top selling personal computer we have not entered a post-pc era?

The iPad is a Personal Computer.

This whole "Post PC" thing is just misdirection to put the iPad in a category by itself so it has a dominate market share.

The problem with "PC" is that is it common used as a ephumism to mean "Windows OS based Personal Computer". At some point people let Microsoft subsumed the whole general notion of a Personal Computer.

"Post PC" is only putting PC back into more general usage. Sort of like "the new iPad" phrase is putting iPad back into more general usage.

While it can generally be seen as a personal computer or PC, it a very unique device enough to put in a category of its own or any tablet for that matter.

An all in one, basic input is by touch, secondary input maybe mouse or keyboard, but makes it less mobile.

Counting cores in graphic processor is not that meaningful. GPUs may have vastly different architectures. For example, Tegra 3 GPU has 12 cores - and it is slower than GPU in iPad. Besides, Apple totally forgot that they specs don't matter these days.

Same, maybe it was because there was no pressure from the all-mighty Mr. Jobs? Don't get me wrong, I idolized the guy and thought he was an AMAZING human being. But I can only imagine what it'd feel like giving a presentation with him watching.

Re: the ram, didn't the guy from epic say that they were working with more memory than the 360 or ps3? They are both 512mb so if the statement was accurate, we can probably assume 1gb.

Is there a reason they don't reference the ram on Apple's website? They really need to up that. I'm so sick apps (mostly Safari) crashing all the time.

I don't think they've ever made reference to the amount of ram in previous phones/ipads. They always focus on features/experience over specs.

If iPad has resulted in the post=PC era, why did I see only laptops in the audience during the keynote? No matter what Apple tries to say, the iPad can't do it all. And it is not really the ideal device for creating content, despite Phil Schiller's commentary. Rather, iPad is a device for consuming content.

I feel bad for Pages developers on iPad. While lots have purchased that App, how man people really use it? I mean REALLY use it. Not for the 2 line recipe you want to store somewhere. Did any journalist or blogger at today's iPad event use the iPad Pages app to post the live blog? I always thought I'd hear Steve or now Tim say at the end of a Keynote, "Today's Keynote was made entirely on the iPad". But that day hasn't come yet.

Is that why they list (meaningless) number of GPU cores, screen resolution, storage size? Because small (512MB) RAM in iDevices is a major reason for crashes which I'd say affect user experience in a big way :)
