Are you kidding? We're like the red-headed step child of computing. We're the laughing stock of all technology forums. Everyday, thousands of people on other sites post things like this.
Owning a Mac got so embarrassing, that I bought a cheap pc and left my mac at home when I went to cafes. :(

I ended up buying a red hard case on eBay that makes it look like a new DELL and since then nobody calls me gay or beats me up anymore.

You have to be ironic here...are you? These guys would steal your mac and keep it under their bed, orgasming every other minute for doing so if only they could.

How not surprising.

Battery life and heat will be an issue, regardless.

Few applications, at this time, will even take advantage of more than one core, anyway.

In this regard, clock speed and battery efficiency for a "laptop" might be considered factors of value, for the majority of consumers.

The funniest most ironic thing of all is that these are the very same dells that have been throttling down to 5%, refusing to start up, and for which dell forum members who have complained have been banned one after the other...

Whether to Buy now or not

I was wondering if i could get some advice in relation to buying the macbook pro 15 2.53ghz as i have a staff night at work and can buy one for 1800 or to wait for the new release!

As what do you think the pricing of the new Macbook pro 15 would be

I'm sure it won't change all that radically.

heat?

Sorry to repost this. Would like to buy the MBP 13. Would the new chips make it run "cooler". I've read on various threads that the heat can be unbearable while using it in your lap at times. Speed change doesn't concern me as much as the "heat", so if they are similar I'll probably buy one now. Thanks

SSD's run cooler than hard drives. I put one in my MBP17 and when I am using the computer on battery it is actually cool. Not even warm. I notice more heat when it is charging but not too hot.

It will get hotter when I run VMWare and Windows because the processors work harder.

Architecture changes excite me more than process shrinks. I think Sandy Bridge is the better one to wait for. If AMD had been on their toes we'd be seeing preproduction samples already, instead Intel has pushed it off to 2011, perhaps even later if AMD continues its moribund pace.

Very exciting news. I don't think there has ever been a better time for apple to buy amd. As soon as that super binding contract with intel (which we know nothing of but is sure to be there binding apple in case they want to go to any other vendor, because intel does that to everyone) is over.

If we thought the ghz wars made it hard to compare cpus, boy will that bring about confusion.

But seeing as amd will be sticking to open cl for the following 3 years, and how intel instead is integrating cpu and gpu in a multi x86 package, dare I say apple has given every indication that a switch to amd will be imminent in 2 or so years time.

Of course now intel has the leverage power of their ssd units too...we shall see...

We all know that AMD make CPUS that goes warmer than Intel so I donät want an AMD processor in my Mac.

No, but they probably purchase knock-offs, or bottom-grade drives from the manufacturer.
Just like Apple?

Though I wouldn't go as far to call them that from any vendor. It's just bulk rate OEM.

I dunno, with AMDs extra revenue they might be able to push some projects forward.

TBH, if AMD put a HD5200/5300 in their Fusion Chips, they will beat the pants off Intel's solution.
It's possible that AMD could pull some of their projects into late 2010 but there's no proof of that yet.

I would love to see an Arrandale in a 13" MacBook Pro with high-end dedicated graphics as well. But, I unfortunately don't know if that is going to happen.

Bring on the quad-core Apple! :D

Now that Apple calls the 13" a "Pro", maybe they will make a super powerful version at an accordingly high price. That way the whining can commence en masse. :D

AMD market value is: $5.4B
AAPL market value is: $178.7B

So if Apple felt AMD had assets worth leveraging going forward and was compatible with their own fab design efforts, I will say they could afford it, even with a minimally dillutive stock swap.

As for Blue-Ray, while there are quite a few items Apple does not place on their own company order forms, Macs have been compatible with third party Blue-Ray devices, software, tools, and media for many years now. If you want to plug all that into pretty much any Mac from the last 5+ years you can. If you want to put an internal model in your MacBook Pro, you can. Now. It simply is not a litmus test item for how advanced or useful a Macintosh is. Some folks either need or want that functionality, and can add it at very low cost and effort indeed. How about you interested folks do that and post your photos and how-to articles so we can all see how easy it actually is. Thank you.

Read the ariticle to get a bigger picture. Currently amd has the best graphics platform in ati, and with the imminent merging of cpu and gpu they have a clear advantage there.

OOOPS I FORGOT TO POST THE LINK:

Just before the core duo release amd's products used to be cooler. It's true that currently their best mobile cpu is at 2.6 ghz at tdp of 45 watt, more than intels for sure, but that's manufactured in 45nm tc instead of 32nm, so analysts expect once they go to 32nm they will be either cooler or at least comparable to intel, we have to see how it plays out because amd have separated from the manufacturing process and have gone fabless. But to me it only points out that with the right leadership and cash coming in amd could be well ahead of intel in a few years.

That is unlesss they used it to pay off their debt. IMO, from the looks of their roadmap they would've been better off putting most of that into R&D.
We'll have to wait until at least Q2 2010 to see what changes the Intel settlement and Global Foundries split have made to the roadmap.

AMD is doing very well in the GPU and platform environment.

AMD Athlon II 620 X4 is darn good CPU for $99, but i am not sure how much heat it produces though. (Here I am talking about desktop CPU)

Also to my technical understanding AMD has native multi-core technology where as intel just add two chips to make 4 cores, correct me if I am wrong.

some form of AMD CPUs in Apple product surely will help AMD (and the market and hence us - customers) but not sure Apple will take that risk.

AMD rates it at 95W. From what I've seen the processors are run at rather unnecessarily high voltages as well. Tom's Hardware has a two part article on undervolting and CnQ usage.

MCM was used to create quad core derivations using a two Wolfdale or Penryn dies. Nehelam/Westmere are monolithic.

Anyone have leaked benchmarks of prototype chips? At what point does a much slower clocked quad core compete with the higher clocked core 2 duos?

these are AWESOME news!!!although i love my PB G4..i REALLY can't take the lack of power..i would LOVE a new MBP..just a question...what is the difference of 4 threads on a 2 core processor? (sorry but i don't know that much..) Also..i will be using the MBP with recording software..probably pro-tools LE since it comes with the external m-audio card..and i will be (quite probably) using guitar rig 3 at the same time..would there be a significant difference in the performance between the new CPUs and the C2D CPUs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
