OS version number...

Anyone an idea what the OS version number is? Is it the same as the 3.0 GM Apple seeded to developers?

I believe the last seed was iPhone OS 3.0 7A_341, but I'm not sure?

I have tried everything and this is the best earbuds I have found. I need to have remote voice control, remote volume control, noise reduction, great sound, and buds that stay in your ear. The answer is the $79 apple in ear phones with mike and remote, but with the Etymotic flanged silicon tips. Its the perfect solution for me.

Aww, but the original sounds so much cooler :p I mean, "looks at the porcelain to hand over the dawn siberian elm"? That's just epic :D

I was once on a Pink Floyd mailing list back in the 90s and there was a Japanese fan who didn't speak English but rather interacted with the mailing list through translation software. The software would occasionally translate his posts into exactly this kind of wonderful, bizarre nonsense. I gave up trying to understand him completely and just decided to appreciate the psychedelic poetry/koan-like quality of it.

:D

Hoping video is included for 3G users. Cycorder works well, but Apple's implementation looks good.

I can manage without Voice Control.

Are a lot people going to carry around their 3GS bareback?

To me, it doesn't make a difference if I'm going to use a case and front screen skin protection anyway.

Well, I've had the first gen iPhone since day 1 and never had a case for it. Personally I prefer the size of the phone, and the ease with which it can go into/out of my pocket. I doubt I'll get a case for the 3GS either.

Have I dropped the phone? Unfortunately yet, a few times, though until 18 months in, it was not damaged (slight nick, but nothing functional). the last time it landed right on the volume control, so now the button only works to decrease the volume, I have to use software to increase it.

I'd call that a pretty good track record for a phone almost 3 years old. Before my first gen iPhone, I couldn't get any phone to last more than 6 months.

Never use a case myself. I am however going to wait until the end of AT&Ts exclusive contract to carry the iPhone and see what happens. Lets home mine lasts just a little bit longer. Be sure not to drop it anymore.

With the ability to add peripheral devices could apple or a third-party company sell a small front-facing camera to plug into the bottom to allow video chat (probably over wi-fi)? Or am I interpreting that wrong?

oleophobic coating eliminate need for sticky protective thingy?

does anyone know if the oleophobic coating will eliminate the need for the sticky protective covers over the display?

IMHO, there was NEVER a need for a protective cover on the display. Had mine for 2 years and the screen looks as good as day one. Takes allot to scratch glass....

Never used those in the first place. You were probably recomended to use those because people are used to plastic screens scratching so much.

To everyone stating that there aren't any meaningful improvements:

Also, the processing speed of your old phones will be noticeably outdated soon. There will be lots of apps that your processor won't be able to utilize to full advantage, if at all.

Until that happens everyone with the new phone will be enjoying the much better camera, enhanced battery life, double the storage, among other things.

Actually, it's 1/10 of an ounce, but still WAY too heavy. [/sarcasm]

If that's too much for you, you guys are ******* (and not the good kind). Hey, I can do dips with a 45 pound barbell weight roped to my waist so a 1/10 of an ounce is nothing.

I for one am no pussie. It was a joke, in case you didn't get it.

And thanks for the math correction.

So what are the best replacement earphones (under $100) for the iPhone? Any suggestions?

I would highly recommed the V-Moda Vibe Duo Neros w/the mic & control button. They're black & chrome and match the black Iphone perfectly. Awesome sound and bass. Also have an angled jack for when it's in you're pocket. There are a few sellers on Ebay that sell them new without the box in the $60ish range.
