The iPad Pro is viewed from much further away. More importantly the iPad doesn’t have such a low resolution.

The 8 is a lot smaller than the Xr and 720p is ok on a 4.7 inch display.

No offense, but this is absolute nonsense.

1. My arms don't grow by 3 feet when holding the iPad.

2. Having a physically larger screen makes zero difference because there are more pixels, it is only the ppi that is the same.. [i.e. 1,334 x 750 vs. 1,792 x 828 ]

The bezels.. the bezels!

They released this just last year. cq5dam.thumbnail.290.370 (1).png

Just done setting up mum and dad with their new xr’s. Due to the tall/thin ratio, the screen produces a smaller image than the 6/7/8 plus despite the greater realestate. The phone presents a premium feel and the screeen resolution is a complete non issue, anybody proclaiming it to be the case must be some kind of visual savant or a troll.

But the big kicker is no genuine landscape mode. Was it the Verge that proclaimed it to be present in a preview? Idiots.

Well I certainly don’t hold my iPad as close to my face as my phone. My iPad is usually on a table or my lap which is a lot further away than my phone.

Hey, any chance of posting a photo or two with both phones (plus & XR) in the pic showing an identical movie and/or tv show paused at the same point? It's 3.5mm narrower and TV shows and older shows and movies will show smaller, but won't new movies in the cinematic aspect ratio present bigger?

No worries if you can't. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Why would I be sarcastic. I find the bezels large and ugly. Nothing to be sarcastic about.

You can find it ugly all you want (since that is subjective) but size is not something that you find. Size is a fact. And the fact is, iPhone X models have some of the smallest bezels on all smartphones. Plus they don't have an ugly chin, something that even large manufacturers like Samsung are finding challenging for some bizarre reasons.
Sure the bezel on XR is a hair thicker or so than the other X models, but gee, to call these bezels large makes me doubt the accuracy of your vision.

How long do we think before people start reporting the first major bugs/problems? I give it a week.

I'm not understanding why people are saying "I hope it sells well". Why? To reward Apple marketing for gimping the screen? The best thing that could possibly happen to the XR (for us consumers next year) is for it to be an utter sales bomb. That would teach the smartypants in Apple marketing department not to mess with the screen next time around.
But yeah- The current XR will still sell by the millions and millions and millions

Or it will teach them that they shouldn't bother with 'low end' phones any more and focus exclusively on the high end $1100+ handsets

Sorry, not in any reasonable timeframe. Mum and Dad have the new phones and live a distance away.

$450 of savings if you compare the version with adequate storage (128 vs 256). The Max ain't going to be able to compete with the XR.

It's about 500 dollars difference in Japan for those two models. That's a massive difference.

As to the LCD display and low pixel density. Somebody made an interesting point - It allows the battery to last longer.

All reviews say the screen is fine, but they are early reviews and such reviews are really nothing more than promotional pieces. I guess we still have to wait and see.

I don't get that comparison at all. It's not like the XR is any less expensive than Apple's previous flagship phones. It's a nice phone, I guess – as it should be considering Apple's asking price – but it's not going to attract any new customers. Nor does it seem particularly attractive to anyone who was waiting for Apple to release a smaller phone.
Re: the smaller phone thing. “Smaller phones” is the demand from a vocal minority.

Maybe they’ll release another SE down the road, but Apple is not stupid—little phones just don’t sell nearly enough to devote the resources to a yearly or even semi yearly release.

People want big and they want massive.

Why is it that so many people are angry at the XR. If you don’t like it, simply don’t buy it.

Too many people are acting as if Apple owe them something when they come out with new tech. If you don’t like the offerings, don’t buy it.

I’ve always been an Apple fan, but so many Apple users have been acting entitled as if they are the only consumer and Apple should pander to their every need.

News flash, those constantly whining that Apple is not fulfilling your needs with every single device they have, they are still making money hand over fist. You are still buying their products. Quit complaining and find peace with your device. Being negative about every device is not changing anything.

Maybe I'm strange, but I'm planning on switching from an Android phone to an iPhone XR. :)
