People only go on about this phone cos of the colours is it just me or anyone else think its a big kidish im happy with the max
I couldn't care less about the colors but I do like the latest processor, camera sensor and $50 memory upgrade to 128GB for only $800 total. I already have last year's X and the OLED isn't that impressive compared to the best LCD out there. Only reason I'm hanging onto my X this year is because of the size.

You do realize that having disposable income is not something people should be ashamed of or feel bad about right? One could say your comment is dumb because you just don't have enough disposable income to have a shiny new phone each year.

It's the cheap iPhone, it's the modern day iPhone 5c.

oh i got plenty for a shiny new phone every year but just because i can afford it doesn't mean i need to spend my money blindly because apple says so. this is why prices keep going up and i refuse to be part of that problem.

i don't need a shiny new phone every year so i can check my emails, respond to texts, call people and occasionally go on instagram.

It‘s impossible to judge a phone screen by looking at a YouTube video. Notice how the shell colours of the XR look different in all these videos? Same thing with the screen. Also, the black level of previous iPhone was always great (for LCD screens). Rest assured that Apple won‘t take a step backwards with the XR.

It's not impossible to judge the black level since the bezel right next to the screen is also black.

The XR screen is undoubtedly a step back in pixel density, resolution, viewing angle, and 3D touch compared to the 8+. Apple's own specs confirm it.

The image some folks must maintain in justifying their purchases. As silly as the “Is this color feminine?” threads that pop up every year.

I also have a 7+. No desire to pay $1k for a phone again, especially when I am not a power user and when I’d rather spend that kind of money on tech I’ll use.

i hear ya. they improve phones yearly but people act like their current phone suddenly stops working.

i'll use my 7+ for another year and make a decision next fall unless i can get a Xs max for cheap.

The phone I'll end up getting in January I'm guessing. I need a sim free model since I'm on cricket, and I want everyone to have a few months to play with it before I pull the trigger. I'll be getting the $128 Gig version, with Apple care. Since I only pay $35 a month for my plan, waiting and buying outright ($800 is a lot at once but compared to most people on these threads and new phone plans I'll have made up the price difference in less than a year) and I keep my phones now for three, (iPhone 6S+ going strong but I'll replace the battery in a few weeks) if not four years.

Black levels will likely be very similar to existing LCD iPhones, including the 8 Plus. Actually, it should be noted that the XR has higher claimed contrast ratio than the 8 Plus does. And viewing angles are likely noticeably better than the OLEDs.

The main issue to be concerned about is the pixel density, that is if you see the ppi difference between the 8+ and 8 (I do).

Arrrgggghhh... It seems like the very superficial previews are rubbing off on the posters here.

Contrary to the posts here and those previews, the XR is not the poor (wo)man's or smart (wo)man's XS. The XR is the poor (wo)man's or smart (wo)man's XS Max.

As mentioned many times in other threads, the XR display 22% more information on-screen than the XS, and displays the exact same amount of information as the XS Max.
For me, I want to see how the Xr, Xs and Pixel 3 feel and look in person first. Not really caring about cost difference.

It’s alright calm down, it’s only the jealous people trying to justify and defend their purchasing decision to buy the XS or XS Max, nothing more.

A) This phone is not cheap. Regardless of your income, $750 is not cheap.
B) Not everyone wants (or cares) to have a stainless steel band with dual cameras and an OLED display.
C) Apple has positioned this as 'affordable' by pricing their flagships at or above $1k.
D) Yes, colors and color choices will sell phones (look at all the Silver vs Gold vs Space Gray threads here).
E) This is the phone Apple is going to be pushing hard. Tim Cook and Jon Ive will likely have these in their pockets.
F) Between the XS, XR and XS Max, the XR is pretty much the sweet spot size-wise.

Why is the shirt and hair so blurry?

There is no edge detection at all. Even under Apple's own controlled environment.

Fake depth of field is just a blur centred on the autofocus point?
That is interesting. Is this with the front camera? Because that is the same between the Xs and Xr.

Non Apple (mostly Android) people put too much emphasis on specs, but most Apple people do not care. Even with the lower perceived screen quality, this iPhone will be a sale leader. My mom and aunt are already excited to upgrade from their older 4.7” iPhones.

He wanted his own thread to be popular. Guess he doesn’t know you can make comments on the original post.

Ha. Fake news.

If you look at the timestamp, my post was 3 minutes after the other one. It took me more than 3 minutes to create the thread. So that post wasn't up when I created this thread.

These aren't review videos so the headlines are misleading. They are "first look" in a heavily PR controlled Apple environment. The real reviews will be out next week.

Hardly. A $750 iPhone is a poor man’s XS? It shares almost a lot of the same features as the iPhone XS with a similar form factor, Face ID, A12 processor, wireless charging, etc. I don’t think your statement classifies as anything as ‘Poor’.
Agreed, its what would be the flagship iPhone if Apple could do a camera as good as the pixel 3 and didn't turn so damn greedy with the obnoxiously overpriced EXCESS, I mean XS.

Yet all your videos are the same ones from the original thread. Ok.

What’s the issue? I don’t check the main page or anywhere else so these vids were helpful to me in the forum?

Not going to lie... if I had to choose between the 3 models, I would go with this one. It’s cheaper, camera looks to have great quality, different colors and better battery life than both devices. Yeah... no OLED but it has tap to wake and still smaller bezels than the 8. I definitely would miss 3D Touch though. My current A1865 X exceeds all my needs... battery life included. But I do wish they had a rose gold option.

Apple did a good job of not making it look like crap like the 5c did. Much improved with the iPhone SE as well as the XR.

I’m personally stuck.. I know 128gb is perfect for me... blue or white.. if it was more royal blue and not baby blue it wouldn’t even be a question.... now though.

You do realize the Xr has the same pixel density of the iPhone 7/8, right? And virtually no one complains about it, myself include (I use an 8). As for the no home button and notch, you're just fighting the future, it's the way all phone are going. I'd rather have a notch, than a big chin/forehead, or both. If you switch to a mid range Android, to get a home button, you might be disappointed if you're coming from an iPhone, from a performance perspective. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

PPI is indeed the same for the Xr and 8. However, the 7+ and 8+ have 401 ppi while the Xr has 326 ppi. Higher ppi is more important for a large screen than for a small one. The 7+ 8+ are the more apples to apples comparison and the Xr falls short in my book.

That’s not accurate at all.

It is an option Apple is providing for less money for people who may not want to spend as much money, or not need features in the Xr. You can’t establish someone’s net worth by what phone they carry.
Just because they can’t, doesn’t mean they won’t.
Phones have become the status symbol in many markets where the traditional status symbols (eg. Car, house) are beyond the reach of many. Heck, I work in a place where some low level employees have the iPhone X while our own big boss only have an old iPhone 7 (wise use of money is another discussion).

Personally, the XR will be awesome. It’s priced incredibly well, making it a better value than the iPhone 8 Plus (unless touchID is a must for the user).

PPI is the new megapixel. What’s the point of 400 ppi when your eyes can’t even resolve more than 300ppi at the normal distances this phones will be used at?
PPI seems to be the only justification for those who regretted spending more on the XS/XS Max.
