Another round of worthless review videos. Highly structured content where reviewers are not allowed to actually display or showcase the iPhone Xr screen against an iPhone Xs or Xs max screen as a comparison.

You will notice these are all tier 2 YouTube reviewers. You’ll notice the absence of the more highly popular reviewers that would actually have to give a real opinion.

Probably my favorite line is when one of the reviewers says that the $750 phone is much more affordable to the masses then the $999 phone. Are you kidding me? If you can afford a $750 phone, you can certainly afford paying $250 more. Since when is $750 an inexpensive phone. $350-$500 is a more affordable phone that will be available to the masses. That is why there are so many android phones at this price.

Only a fool would pay $750 for this phone when you can get a significantly better camera and extremely better screen for $250 more from Apple. People should either be buying an inexpensive android phone or going for the best with the iPhone XS or XS max.

Hardly. A $750 iPhone is a poor man’s XS? It shares almost a lot of the same features as the iPhone XS with a similar form factor, Face ID, A12 processor, wireless charging, etc. I don’t think your statement classifies as anything as ‘Poor’.

It all depends on how frequently one upgrades their phone. If annually then the Xs/Max may not be worth it.

I usually keep my phones from 2 to 4 years and certain things such as the cameras are worth it to me and the extra RAM.

The Xr is a good compromise with one less camera, less studio effects, less RAM. However that thicker bezel would get to me, I have to see this in person to confirm confortability.

Happy with my Xs.

CNET lady was annoying as hell. Only one of the five above worth watching might be the 4th one down (Sara) who had some insight on the portrait mode camera differences. All the rest just just seem to lazily regurgitate the XR spec sheet.
I agree.. Sara pointed out to me that you can use the wide angle FOV for portrait mode on the Xr wheres on the Xs, you're limited to the telephoto FOV (however at the expense of less lighting choices). That was something I didn't know and will be relevant to making my choice between the Xr and Xs.

Screen = poor

Almost 720p in 2018 is laughable.

Does anybody yet know what the Screenshot Resolution is for the XR ?

This is an EXTREMELY important topic for App Devs.

Both the XS Max & the XR use the exact same "points" dimensions ... the XS Max renders @ 3x, while the XR renders @ 2x.

I'm under the assumption that an XR Screenshot, e.g., in Portrait, will result in a 1242x2688 photo, same as what occurs with an XR Max Screenshot, & that AAPL did this to help us App Devs (e.g., with App Store screenshots).

But, it needs confirmation.

Anybody ???

If it can be confirmed by Midnight tonight, then App Devs are safe to pull the trigger on an XR purchase.

If NOT, then ... we'll, you know, we wait (most-likely for the Single Lens Version of the iPhone XS).

The screen discussion is laughable.
Did you ever hear iPhone 4 to 8 users complain about the pixel density of their displays? I mean actual users, not some tech reviewer actively trying to point out all pros and cons.

If you don't hold the phone directly into your face, 326 ppi LCD is completely fine.

Fun fact: phones like the OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8 got praised for their great and sharp ~400 ppi OLED panels by most reviewers. 400 ppi OLED actually isn't sharper than 326 ppi LCD due to different sub pixel arrangements.

It's all in your head. You see what you want to see.

Does anyone know if a SIM Free version will be available? I don't see this as an option in the Apple app.

That’s not accurate at all.

It is an option Apple is providing for less money for people who may not want to spend as much money, or not need features in the Xr. You can’t establish someone’s net worth by what phone they carry.

I wonder how poor he thinks this guy is...

If you like OLED then rock it man. I just don’t think it looks good. It looks worse than the 8+ and soon XR for sure.
I wouldn't say that it looks bad. But, I do think it's overkill. I don't watch movies on my iPhone. I might check out a quick video, or something, but I'm not looking at it for extended periods. I'll use my iPad for movies. To me, phones are too small for that.
I think the difference between the two is only noticeable when you do a side by side comparison, focusing on things that you wouldn't normally focus on.
But, that's just me. To each, his/her own.

What a dumb comment.

I’m still using an iPhone 7+ because I’m not an idiot and don’t fall for marketing every year.

The image some folks must maintain in justifying their purchases. As silly as the “Is this color feminine?” threads that pop up every year.

I also have a 7+. No desire to pay $1k for a phone again, especially when I am not a power user and when I’d rather spend that kind of money on tech I’ll use.

I’m guessing they were all limited by Apple in what they could say and show.

Hopefully portrait mode will be improved to work with non-human subjects eventually. That’s really my biggest disappointment with the XR, but the pros still outweigh the cons for me.

I totally lost respect for CNET and unsubscribed right after Brian Tong left. It's a joke now. Only one I like from them is Brian Cooley and he mostly does cars now. By the way, Brian Tong has his own Youtube channel if anyone is interested.
