People are not fools for having different criteria than you. And most important having different size wallet ;)

False. Wallets are all the same size. You meant bank account. Also, don’t belittle people because they earn less. That’s a horrid little trait.

The image some folks must maintain in justifying their purchases. As silly as the “Is this color feminine?” threads that pop up every year.

I also have a 7+. No desire to pay $1k for a phone again, especially when I am not a power user and when I’d rather spend that kind of money on tech I’ll use.

Nothing silly about buying older tech at all. It is so much cheaper to upgrade a year or two "late."

Seriously, we need the XR mini next year. Many people out there don't want to carry a flat-screen television in a front pocket.

Agreed. I’d be replacing my SE tomorrow if the XR wasn’t so damn big. As it is the X is at the very threshold of what I’ll tolerate as far as size. Anything over 5.5” is a dealbreaker and 4.5”-5” would be most ideal for ME

The screen discussion is laughable.
Did you ever hear iPhone 4 to 8 users complain about the pixel density of their displays? I mean actual users, not some tech reviewer actively trying to point out all pros and cons.

If you don't hold the phone directly into your face, 326 ppi LCD is completely fine.

Fun fact: phones like the OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8 got praised for their great and sharp ~400 ppi OLED panels by most reviewers. 400 ppi OLED actually isn't sharper than 326 ppi LCD due to different sub pixel arrangements.

It's all in your head. You see what you want to see.

$749+ is the cost of "completely fine"?

Is the contrast and brightness all in people's head?

And why are Apple using OLED on their XS if this LCD is so good?

Am I the only one who has practically allergic reactions to youtubers reacting to anything and everything with over-the-top astonished looks in their thumbnails? As if the thing we should be primarily concerned with is if they like the device, rather than whether the device is good or not?

No, you are not.

I seriously considered holding out for the XR instead of the XS Max I wound up getting, but the one thing that I just couldn't get around was the screen. After having the X for a year, I can't imagine going back to a non-OLED phone. The fact that I can flip on the Reader at night (black background, orange-tinted letters because of Nightshift) and the only thing producing light are the letters I'm reading... it's extraordinary and probably much easier on the eyes than a fully-backlit screen.

I think I'll save the 200 on the Xs and go black 128gb Xr. And that portrait explanation in the last video was super helpful, as in I didn't know you had to back up with the X when switching to portrait. INTERESTING.

You do realize that having disposable income is not something people should be ashamed of or feel bad about right? One could say your comment is dumb because you just don't have enough disposable income to have a shiny new phone each year.

It's the cheap iPhone, it's the modern day iPhone 5c.
I think it's more an attempt to say that signaling your status with an iphone is dumb. It's a $250 difference. When the rich and affluent sneeze, they lose more than $250.
Meaning, they don't care about what iPhone you are using. If you do, it's all flash.

Thought it was odd that only one of these videos - the 3rd one - mentioned the XR's superior battery life (unless I missed it in the others, which is entirely possible). To me, that's one of the most appealing features of the phone. I'm curious to see the results of battery life tests.

The poor man's XS.
It's not like all people who won't spend $1000+ for a phone can't afford it. Many people just find it needlessly expensive and think that the features don't justify the insanely high price. I think the XR is a great phone, as it has practically all good things of a phone that is waaaaaaaay more expensive, at the cost of very marginal compromises. The screen is great anyway, the bezels are only marginally bigger, I don't particularly want a telephoto lens and haptic feedback seems a decent replacement for 3D touch. I'm more than happy to give up these things to save $250, and as a perk I get to have a colourful iPhone, which I like much more than a black or white one (or, a gold that I find just tacky).

Maybe this is a good time to define hyperbole.

Srsly, the size of the XR and XR Max aren't that bad.
I think they are. I will buy an XR but I think that it's way too big, and if it was available in iPhone SE format I'd buy that (even at the same price of the XR).

If you like OLED then rock it man. I just don’t think it looks good. It looks worse than the 8+ and soon XR for sure.

The XR screen looks like trash in those videos. Any time there's supposed to be a black background like in the camera app it looks like VHS static

Spot the difference:

Nobody should feel bad for having disposable income (or for using it), but judging other people based on how much they earn is incredibly dumb and shallow. Also, it's incredibly dumb to think that who spend more money on a phone is necessarily richer. I know some very wealthy people who don't care at all about phones and buy some random android "cheap" phone.

It‘s impossible to judge a phone screen by looking at a YouTube video. Notice how the shell colours of the XR look different in all these videos? Same thing with the screen. Also, the black level of previous iPhone was always great (for LCD screens). Rest assured that Apple won‘t take a step backwards with the XR.

Arrrgggghhh... It seems like the very superficial previews are rubbing off on the posters here.

Contrary to the posts here and those previews, the XR is not the poor (wo)man's or smart (wo)man's XS. The XR is the poor (wo)man's or smart (wo)man's XS Max.

As mentioned many times in other threads, the XR display 22% more information on-screen than the XS, and displays the exact same amount of information as the XS Max.
