Wow can't believe they would just leave a $2000 + package on your doorstep. I would complain :D

Recipient could have pre-signed or left a note. Both of which the driver would not be responsible for a missing package . The home owner could have been home, took delivery and set on porch to take photo. Nice mat too.

I got my 6 core yesterday. Picked it up at my local FedEx (had them hold it since they were slammed) and brought it with me to Christmas.

There is no way I could've slung my old MP 3,1 over my shoulder in a messenger bag and demoed my Oculus Rift to the family.

That's pretty sweet! Would you be willing to run Cinebench on your 6 core? I don't mean to be a bother, but I'm really curious about how the processor performs by itself.

Wow, if a courier left a Mac Pro on my doorstep, I'd be pretty darned annoyed. That could be $10,000 work of equipment waiting to be stolen.

Edit: Said everyone else in this thread. Carry on!

Downloading Cinebench now...

Sure no problem :)

My only potential issue (if it would affect the test) is that I'm running an old 30" Cinema Display and I got the wrong Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter (thanks J&R for the knowledgeable advice) and I have to hustle to the 5th Ave Apple Store to get the Dual Link DVI adapter as my current supported resolution tops out at 1280x800.

We'll see. It has already crashed once (this morning) and the alert said it was an issue with waking from sleep (possibly related to using the wrong display adapter).

I'll try to run Cinebench now and after I get the correct adapter.

Awesome. Thanks!

Nice, I'm going to obsessively spend time with nuke and Houdini and grabbing the 4k black magic camera when it' comes out just to learn as much as I can. Maya and vray I have a little background with but I just want to make a cool portfolio reel on my own

OT

Is this the same DJreversal from the GTR forums?

Thank you! I will have to run the latest version of Cinebench again on my 2008 8 core (I remember the old version score but not the new one). That is really helpful!

In certain industries, the cost of your tools are expensive, but allow you to do the job so you can get paid. If you do pro work, this will enable you to get it done, and get it done fast so you can do more work.

Me...I'll just wait for 3-4 years and pick one up used for cheap:p

I just bought a 4 year old 2009 Mac Pro, and holy cow, it still beats just about every current Mini and MacBook Pro...and it is much more useful than an iMac, that is for sure.

So, in the spirit of the original post: I wonder how many MR users eventually enjoyed visits from Santa Cook, and I'm also looking forward to seeing what kind of tsunami flows through these boards when the first BTO orders start showing status changes. I got mine in mere moments after the site opened so am hoping to be among the first to see movement.

I'm wondering if someone more knowledgeable might clarify this but I was under the impression Logic Pro could potentially be able to benefit in the future from dual graphics cards if Apple were to fully support OpenCL?

Not sure if this is true or possible, but if it is, would definitely give good reason to get a Mac Pro for Logic Pro users!

I was disappointed that Logic X wasn't already using OpenCL to take advantage of the Dual GPU's. I'm pretty sure OpenCL will become a standard for resource intensive software for both OSX and Windows but I don't think it's going to happen tomorrow.

I decided to keep my 2011 iMac 2.7 i5 (where all my authorized samples reside) and get a 2.6 i7 Fusion Mac Mini. I'll use Vienna Ensemble Pro (on it's own FW800 HD) to slave the iMac to the Mac Mini over ethernet also using Apple's Target Display Mode for sharing the iMac's display with the Mac Mini.

When my DAW host and better sample libraries finally do take advantage of the Mac Pro's dual GPU's I'l salvage what I can from my setup and make the jump.

Mac Pro

Beautiful machine--can easily afford this but can't justify the purchase. I do mostly lectures for residents with PowerPoint and as it is with my late 2012 27 inch iMac it's more than I need---1TB fusion drive/3.4GHZ i7/32GB of Ram. If the purchase is needed for work then that would make sense.....:)

Wow...a top of the line, fully decked out Mac Pro ALMOST costs as much as a Mac IIfx (y'all grey beards remember that thing?:)).

I hear ya, bro. Unless it gives me an advantage over the competition, I don't see the need to be bleeding edge either. Being a bean counter, I don't see how calculating taxes a few nanoseconds faster will help much.:p Let others pay for the R&D.

well the good thing is prices never really drop on apple products... it will be nice if in a year or 2 they switch things up, maybe offer more powerful product, with maybe 12-24 core system and faster ram or more drives for less etc... i try to sell my mac's every year and get the latest upgrade.. hopefully they dont pull a fast one like they did with the last gen and not really upgrade the system properly for like 5 years :(

Driver: "Have a package for you. Sign here, please?"

Me: "Sure! Could you just leave there on the stoop? I want to snap a picture before I take it inside."

At least that's how it could very well go down at my house--including making sure to close the door first so the cats don't get out.

If you buy this in the uk. The 2999 without tax would be 4000 dollars with tax if you bought it in the us.

PROTIP: Buying in the US isn´t the cheapest place to buy Apple products. If you want to travel to buy a Mac Pro fly to Asia. It´ll be 7-8% cheaper than US even without the US state tax which most states carry.
