Lady: Do you smoke?
Man: Yes
Lady: How many packs a day?
Man: 3 packs
Lady: How much per pack?
Man: $10
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Man: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack costs $10 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at $900. In one year it would be $10,800, correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: If in 1 year you spend $10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at $162,000, correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: Do you know that if you hadn't smoked, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?

Man: Do you smoke?
Lady: No
Man: Where's your Ferrari then?

Even if it wasn't we are suppose to hate RICH people in here?

Hate sociopathic rich people who are screwing up the world economy and being excessive because they can, NOT the "merely-rich" people. The best way to tell who is who is to look at corporate "officers" and politicians... A very few in both realms aren't sociopathic. But beware: the older and more disgustingly rich sociopaths are trying to whitewash their lives by giving to charity, in the later portions of their lives...

welcome to UPS.

Ordered $3k worth of computer parts a couple weeks ago. showed up while I was on the can.

within 30 seconds of quickly wiping, pulling up my pants and running to the door, I saw the UPS truck drive away with 3 boxes just left on my doorstep.

That would be the drivers that don't look at the "signature required" markings before carrying the packages to the door. They get no reply to the door? Move on without carrying the packages back to the truck.

Paying people better wages to do better work might help. Hiring non-lazy people becomes easier at better wages too.

I'm wondering if someone more knowledgeable might clarify this but I was under the impression Logic Pro could potentially be able to benefit in the future from dual graphics cards if Apple were to fully support OpenCL?

Not sure if this is true or possible, but if it is, would definitely give good reason to get a Mac Pro for Logic Pro users!

Logic BETTER be getting OpenCL support soon...

What are you talking about?

UPS drivers are Teamsters. They get paid good money, receive great benefits, and pretty much can't be fired unless they commit a felony while on duty.

if you are poor everyone else around you looks rich.

That would be my position. Which makes people seem really obnoxious to me when they talk about Apple product users being rich and buying rich-people "toys". My iPhone is assistive technology, IMO. Can't live without it.

Anyone with money to spend on improving their daily lives looks rich to me.

----------

"They" is likely the driver, not the company. Especially this time if years drivers are pushed to their limits to deliver your precious goods on time.

Losing a big ticket item like this due to faikure to get a signature can lose the driver his/ her job. And all around the holidays.

I'm not saying condone the behavior. In fact, you might even call in and complain. But claim you never got it (when you did) is pretty heartless, if you ask me.

Good job here. Sloppy employee performance is up to the employer, not a customer engaging in fraud.

Must be nice to be rich...

Trust me, it is. If you work hard, go to school, get an advanced degree, and get a good job, and wisely invest your money, you too can be rich. Those of you slamming people who can afford the MP should think about how to make enough money to afford some nicer things. If you can't, well then just suck it up and stop belittling those who can.

Must be nice to be rich...

Is it? I work 16 hours a day for the privilege. Do you?

A hell of a lot of so-called "rich people" work their entire lives, far harder than most normal people, for longer hours. Missing out on priceless family moments.

Think, before you judge. If you're not capable of thinking that hard, then accept and appreciate what you have. It might just be better.

Wow...a top of the line, fully decked out Mac Pro ALMOST costs as much as a Mac IIfx (y'all grey beards remember that thing?:)).

More, actually, if you account for inflation. The IIfx cost around $9k at the low end, equivalent to about $16k in today's dollars. I had one - not paid for by me, BTW - and it was quite fast for its day. It had a few idiosyncrasies, though, such as requiring a special black SCSI. IIRC, actor Harry Anderson from the TV program "Night Court" quipped that the fx in "IIfx" stood for "***** expensive."

As for the new Mac Pro, I see no reason why anyone who needs one for their work or, for that matter, just wants one and can afford it, shouldn't have one. I may eventually get a lower end configuration for my office when it's time to replace my old Mac Pro.

wow...

how can articles jump on-board without fully thinking it all through.

This make more sense...."stock Mac Pros" arrive sooner.

In fact any "stock" product from Apple arrives sooner than a custom one for obvious reasons... even i knew that...

Who's mat is that ?

Yeah right. You mean with an AMD processor that has the same clock speed and is therefore "the same"? Even then, the GPUs alone cost much more than $4000.

Nothing wrong with AMD CPU's. They are just about as fast as Intel and under some workloads are actually faster. They gave us the x64 instruction set that is in all Intel CPU's and the under the hood in our Macs. (Intel's only 64-bit architecture was the flop Itanium.) AMD also has some good low power designs and some good multi-CPU designs.

Personally I'd rather have an AMD under the hood than an Intel. Sadly Apple is in the Intel camp for now - that would be the ideal machine for me - Apple's style with AMD inside.

Maybe don't live in a neighborhood where people are dicks?

This is an incredibly ignorant statement.

One does not have to live in a neighborhood where people are dicks to be victim of theft. All it takes is a "dick", as you aptly out it, to make his way to the well to do neighborhood and scope out packages sitting on doorsteps. It's a rather common thing for crooks to do, especially around the holidays, when deliveries are at their highest.

Being rich has nothing to do with advanced degrees. It has everything to do with working hard and investing wisely.

A fully loaded 12-core Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM, dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs and 1TB of PCI-e based flash storage retails for $9599 in the United States.

In the Netherlands this fully loaded Mac Pro cost €9650 ($13200), who will/can buy this?

why are all apple product so much more expensive in Europe compared to the US of A.

Because of our tax system. There is BTW (VAT in English) and other taxes to get things imported. These can vary because there are different agreements between countries.

And yes, these machines are expensive to buy but so are the competitors. IT isn't all that cheap, it never was. You buy these because they are necessary tools so you invest wisely. That's how you get these high priced tools: invest wisely. It's not about being rich although it helps a lot (you don't have to be wise in that case, just have to have enough money).

And in many cases knowing the right people and/ or being lucky. Hard work is obviously the best way to getting rich but not a guarantee.

In real dollars it is extremely cheap compared to ordinary computers that used to cost am MINIMUM of $3500 (1990s).

Yup. I bought my first Mac in the early 90's for about $3,500 plus another $1,200 for a 20" monitor (that weighed about 75 lbs). I was only 3-4 years out of college making maybe $22k.

I think the machine was a IIci and had 8MB RAM and 40MB harddrive. (Yes, those are "MB"s and not "GB"s.)

:D

I am always amazed at the envy and jealous, that others have for people who have more than they do. I was taught by my father, to always work hard, do your best. Get educated and eventually you maybe able to afford nice things, but you have to earn it. No body owes me anything.

I worked hard and saved first, paid all my bills and then if there was left over we could get a few things
