Those photos don't look better to my eye.

Not a fair comparison of one iPhone photos probably taken through glass. I say it's a wash.

'probably taken through glass' - I am not with you here.

The 903SH is one of the best camera phones out there. Many reviews agree with this.

Its not nearly as high quality as a lot of asian phones (some of those phones look exactly like $300+ digital cameras) but by american standards is way better than the other webcam quality garbage we get. We still have a long way to go before we get perfect color and exposure like the S Koreans and Japanese get from their phones.

OMG PEOPLE, HE'S A MAN FOR GOODNESS SAKE, CAN'T YOU F****KING SEE THE STUBBLE??

HOW MANY WOMAN THAT YOU MET HAVE FACIAL HAIRS ON THEIR FACE? PLENTY?

I ran a tool called ExifTool, and found more information from the iPhone photos which do seem to corroborate the claim that they were taken with an iPhone ...

The EXIF data you posted is indeed interesting (and appreciated), but that (by itself) really proves nothing. A knowledgeable and skilled person could easily change EXIF data, and make it look "authentic" in the process. ;)

That said, there's a lot of evidence to support the concept that the photos could be from the real thing. But cynically thinking, it's hard to imagine a "real" iPhone being allowed to travel (very far) out into the real world and being (publicly) used to snap a couple of impromptu photographs.

However, one thing is certain -- the amount of "free" advertising the iPhone is able to generate is truly amazing! :p

meh this still dont bring the the iPhone closer to shops around the world funny pics though.

Is that a meat locker?

Yes. The second image is taken at the entrance to the lobby bar of the Alexander's Steak House on Wolfe Road in Cupertino, CA. They age their own beef and the meat locker has a glass wall.

A very nice restaurant BTW, and just one exit down 280 (less than 2 miles) from Apple HQ and about a mile from my house.

So, if the image was taken by an Apple employee with an actual prototype iPhone, the location is certainly very plausible and not straying that far from the farm...

As far as I know, There's ONE iPhone on the loose and that's tucked in Steve's pocket.

But cynically thinking, it's hard to imagine a "real" iPhone being allowed to travel (very far) out into the real world and being (publicly) used to snap a couple of impromptu photographs.

Since the iPhone isn't in production yet this is probably just a prototype being used in some field testing

kenaustus has it right. The iPhone might not be THE most complex consumer electroncis device ever brought to market, but it's probably close. And integrating it with Google, Yahoo, Cingular/AT&T, to say nothing of the device's own QA requirements, it's going to require (!) real iPhones travelling out in public.

It's early, and this employee appears tight with Apple. But wait until late May and early June, when Apple has to deploy hundreds (if not thousands) of these things for field testing. There are going to be leaks all over the place.

yourmom :

The restaraunt (at least in the second photo) is a steakhouse on Wolfe, at Vallco Mall, called "Alexanders'", in Cupertino, CA. This is about 3 miles from Apple HQ, and since the phone is in testing stage, this adds more credibility. Alexanders' is annoyingly costly, and you walk by the huge cuts of meat on the way to the hostess' podium"

interesting

The bigger a company gets and the higher it moves toward the top, the more reason that company has to be secretive. Companies usually get bigger and move to the top of the heap because their people work smarter than the competition. It's Darwinism in motion... :p

Smart corporations usually take great steps to prevent "accidents", before they happen. Unless of course, that's part of the game plan. :p

Who the #@#$$@#@# cares.

Where are the updated progress of the Mac Pro, Mac book pro & Leopard for people that actually use Apple as a professional tool ? sigh

Looks ok and real to me. Probably intentionally posted to keep the rumor mill going.

Oh and, for all the people wondering about the orientation information, my Canon Powershot 630 does that too, I thought every modern camera stored the orientation with the picture so you don't have to correct it yourself later. And since the iPhone has an orientation sensor for cover flow and stuff, it just makes sense to use it for taking pictures too.

Boy i sure hope someone wasn't just showing off their iPhone to get laid because I'm sure not seeing this chick as being worth losing your job over.

iPhone or not

Well, whether is the iPhone or not, one thing we can be sure is that:

The toast guy aka "Aphex twin"

... IT IS NOT A CHICK!

Sorry!

So it looks as if I'm wrong. Allow me this opportunity to apologize for not being correct in "Guess Where This Is." But I will say that they have a glass meat locker that looks 99% similar to what was photographed in the New York, New York Casino. I'm going to go play me some Command and Conquer 3 now.
