Honestly, I'm not a fan of the black keyboard area. It looks strange, and it also makes it appear like it's plastic instead of aluminum. Maybe It'll grow on me, but they should've just removed the 'Macbook Pro' logo and made the screen without a notch. I can forgive the notch, but that keyboard doesn't look right to me.

The notch isn’t an “iconic” design. I don’t understand why people say this. Every single MacBook and Mac in history never had a notch and were already iconic with just the Apple logo on the back.
It's iconic because of iPhone.

The notch looks utterly terrible.

"Doesn't look that bad" = looks ridiculous but I'm willing to live with it because I don't exactly have a choice.

As such,

Lipstick + pig = pig wearing lipstick. All of the 'I don't mind' comments changes nothing.

It had to be said. I swear there's people out there that will convince you that sometimes having no arms is better than having arms. Sigh.

Anyways..nice (expensive!!!!) machines though.
Ok lol.

The home button was an iconic design. The notch was a limitation in technology that was taken by apple for more screen real estate. It was never meant to be something iconic like the home button was.
when technology allows it the notch will be long gone and nobody will cry that it’s gone. People still cry the home button is gone.

Not a snarky question: how did Dell get such a thin bezel and fit their camera without a notch? I might be missing something wrt hardware but, it seems like Apple should be able to pull this off too. I don’t follow Dell, so maybe someone on this thread knows the answer.

If Dell XPS laptops can make it, Apple could do it too.
Seriously people, put your critical thinking cap on.

That webcam is only 720p.

And I don't think the Dell has indicator lights but I might be wrong.

It's a design compromise but it's still iconic for a mere fact of the scale of iPhone popularity.

Nothing is ever meant to be iconic. It is when it ends up is. You could also argue that every major Apple design (compromise or not) are always meant to be iconic if there some design that's meant to be.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t even think about it anymore.
“notch nightmares” waking up sweating and crying.

You think 20 years from now we will look back and think the home button was iconic apple or the notch? i don’t see the notch as anything more than a limitation in technology.

That's fine but the iPhone X design will live in the Apple design book.

Yeah not iconic just poor design.

FWIW, Dell's top bezel isn't quite a thin as Apple's. Apple's is now 3.5 mm, while that on the Dell XPS is 5.6 mm (at least it was in 2020, which is the latest data I could find). So Apple should have been able to get to 5.6 mm as well -- unless they needed more vertical space for the 1080 webcam; all the laptops that currently offer a 1080p webcam (and their aren't many) have thick top bezels:

yea, side by side the former 13" mbp keyboard looks so ugly now...the new one i love the black keys on the black chassis of the keyboard itself...it looks far better black on black than black on silver
How can you say a sleeker laptop looks ugly? Common now. It’s thinner and symmetrical.
