I used to think like you but my white iPad magickeyboard made me reconsider. The thing looks awful generic very “unApple”. Looks also easier to change if the need arises…hopefully not a sign…I don't necessarily understand all the attention put towards the keyboard deck.
When I'm using my laptop, my eyes/peripheral vision don't even notice the keys.
Maybe I'm "old school" or a traditional typist. (opposed to the HUNT-N-PECK) youngsters or people who never learned to type without looking at the keyboard....
Dang peeps, that's a lot of chirping about superficial looks.
But on the practical note, WHITE keyboards are beautiful but they get dirty and show dirt like a MOFO.
Black don't crack.
It’s a new bokeh effect, strangely not highlighted on the presentation.Heh, this is probably going to result in a lot of smudged up video on Zoom calls.
Apple specifically said in the keynote that the keyboard area is anodized aluminum ?Are you sure it’s just a “paint job”? I speculated it is a no individual key cut on chassi, but rather a cheaper to produce, one cut with a polymer slab keyboard slapped in it.
“Double anodised black well” My bad then. But is the chassis still a one piece carved or is it an aluminium slab inserted in a cut? Something like the standalone keyboard slapped in a cut?Apple specifically said in the keynote that the keyboard area is anodized aluminum ?

That needs a review for confirmation but I suspect it is one piece.Something like the standalone keyboard slapped in a cut?
Easier and cheaper to make and change if it’s needed.
Hopefully as it would make it less prone to collect “garbage”. Let’s see. That needs a review for confirmation but I suspect it is one piece.
Yeah it was, unless you want another windows laptop with a crippled CPU that dies after two-three years.
Wow, lots of people really upset about the notch. (...)
For the people who can't stand it though, I think we can pretty much guarantee there'll be a one-click freeware tool within a few weeks of release that bumps the menu bar down to just below the notch and fills the space above with black. With the Mini-LED display, you shouldn't even see any backlight bleed! If you hate it that much, it'll be like the notch was never there in the first place.
thats what this is...have you used the one on the 2019 16"...literally the same keyboard if not better then the pre butterfly.
Well... Lets hope they stick with the black keys. ?I used to think like you but my white iPad magickeyboard made me reconsider. The thing looks awful generic very “unApple”. Looks also easier to change if the need arises…hopefully not a sign…
Thanks!16" too
is the glass half empty or half full? The notch looks utterly terrible.
"Doesn't look that bad" = looks ridiculous but I'm willing to live with it because I don't exactly have a choice.
As such,
Lipstick + pig = pig wearing lipstick. All of the 'I don't mind' comments changes nothing.
It had to be said. I swear there's people out there that will convince you that sometimes having no arms is better than having arms. Sigh.
Anyways..nice (expensive!!!!) machines though.
Damn, looks like Macbooks put on some of that "Covid-19" lockdown weight.16" too
The problem will be with full screen apps (video, films, and even spreadsheets and other apps that use the real estate). The notch will be very intrusive. There should be a way to reduce the displayed area so the notch does not cut into the content. It might be possible to do that when going into full screen mode and still have 16:10 (if I have it right, there are about 100 "spare" pixels).People complaining about the notch need to look at this photo. The screen is bigger even if you subtract the notch, and the notch only cuts into the central menubar area which is normally not used.
