Can’t wait To see demo units in my nearby apple store. I have 13.3“ one but default zoomed out resolution has proven to be a Bit too tiny for me. If 16” is good enough and it’s not way too big, I might go with 16” and sell my current Touch Bar MacBook Pro.

I don't necessarily understand all the attention put towards the keyboard deck.

When I'm using my laptop, my eyes/peripheral vision don't even notice the keys.

Maybe I'm "old school" or a traditional typist. (opposed to the HUNT-N-PECK) youngsters or people who never learned to type without looking at the keyboard....

Dang peeps, that's a lot of chirping about superficial looks.

But on the practical note, WHITE keyboards are beautiful but they get dirty and show dirt like a MOFO.

Black don't crack.

I think it looks awesome. I don't think the notch is an issue at all, aesthetically. My only concern is I have *so* many menubar-lets I wonder how that's going to work with the notch. I don't have much room in the middle of my menu bar at all

The design is a subtle improvement. It definitely looks a bit sleeker and the screen size improvement looks significant

I'm really going to miss the touchbar though. I hope they give that another go and do some thinking on how to improve the design and usability. It really shines when using pro apps like Logic and Final Cut

Anyone know if the Apple logo lights up?
I just replaced my battery in the 2012 MBP. I still like everything on this laptop especially my logo, but an upgrade wouldn’t hurt. Thanks!

Can't wait for the teardowns.

Is there ANY CHANCE the hardware is there for Face ID and it's just not implemented yet from the software side?

For showing off a laptop that's been announced?
There are rules. There’s an embargo period where nobody can show the device. There are lots of legal teeth in these agreements.

It typically ends in phases. Media usually gets these ahead of release and are allowed to do their first impression reviews ahead of a release date, but always limited to posting on or after a specific date and time. For everyone else, it’s after FCS (First Customer Shipment), e.g. when the first general consumer receives their device.

The vendors licensed to sell the MacBooks are not allowed to open, unbox or provide any images or video until typically the night before retail release.

After seeing the video and the pictures I have to say that the new 14" MBP is not as compact as the 13". It does give though more screen estate, which is nice of course. The new MBP is also much thicker, and to be honest I am not sure I like this design. I somehow prefer the old 13" M1 MBP design more. If only it weren't for this ProMotion display..

is that at lowest brightness setting?
Hey, that’s the screenshot I posted in the iPad Pro Blooming thread! ?

Seriously, on my XDR iPad Pro, the blooming is very noticeable at night, in dimly lit rooms or with the lights out, but it’s one of those trade offs you learn to live with, as the screen is superb in every other respect
Queue bloom-gate in 3…2…1…

Just as with the iPad Pro XDR. Except this time people will care and the outcry will be a thousand times worse, because nobody really cares about an iPad Pro problem, but they sure as hell are going to care when it comes to their beloved MacBook Pro…

To those uninformed, this is about to come to the MBP too: View attachment 1874976

People complaining about the notch need to look at this photo. The screen is bigger even if you subtract the notch, and the notch only cuts into the central menubar area which is normally not used.
Leaving aside the possible future space for other sensors and the branding element, the other thing that I immediately think of is that the most vulnerable part of the screen would definitely be right where the notch is since people are going to be grabbing around there to open the lid each and every time.
