The transition will be painful for wired CarPlay, since a USB-C iPhone will need an adapter to connect to a USB-A port in cars.

The USB-C to USB-C cable that would be included would be no good since most cars have USB-A ports, and any lightning to USB-A cables would be useless, too.
No more than now.
You just use a usb c to usb a cable . They exist as as usb is a standard not proprietary you can use any

Also, my car doesn’t have usb a , just usb c , so my c to lightning will be replaced with c to c

Oh, do they? All the new cars are equipped with USB-C as far as I can see.

But I agree with you that a $10 USB cable causes pain, when you buy a new $1000 iPhone. 🤦‍♂️

I'm so glad I will be forced to pay a ton of money to buy all new stuff. Thanks EU! Thanks for helping me spend my money and throw out stuff. What a great time to do it too! Hey inflation is on the rise and maybe a recession. Lets now force people to replace all their expensive lightning devices. Way to look out for the rest of us.
so you spend thousands $ on new devices but complain about 10$ cable? how many lighting cables you had to buy because they crapped out after year? I still have my usb C cable that came with my phone 5 years and I'm using it daily.

Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, you can keep all of your devices for next x years and hopefully in that time you'll save that 10$ for new cable.

I’d like to buy the AirPods Max soon, but with USB-C not Lightning. Please make it happen, Apple!

Apple is doomed if they put USB-C on the underside of the mouse.

This isn’t some kind of ‘design error’ otherwise they would not have done it or had fixed it by now.

Apple want this mouse to be used exclusively with Bluetooth and cable free.

So to discourage wired usage the port is placed underneath. It’s only going to be recharged 4 times a year anyway.

The result is a wireless desktop surface, less clutter, and that makes their products look sleek and futuristic.

Many misunderstand.

Few understand.

If a $10 cable is painful for someone to acquire, maybe they shouldn't be buying a $700+ phone.

There a slight problem with that philosophy: a number of us have considerable problems getting any kind of reliability out of BlueTooth. I completely abandoned BT at home two years ago after 11 years of battling with it on an iMac. By all accounts it's just as horrendous on a Mini. Consumers should have a choice if they want to use their ancillaries tethered or wireless, and in fact we do have a choice, as long as we don't want to use a modern Apple mouse. There no reason that can't be easily dismissed why both camps couldn't have been satisfied by designing the mouse so it can be used tethered, like the trackpad can. Which I do use, tethered, unsurprisingly.

I'll render that untrue in a sentence. I have no Bluetooth problems regarding my AS Mac mini.

Indeed, I never notice any Bluetooth issues with any of my Apple kit.

(No longer all accounts. :) )

My worst Bluetooth problems were with Windows PCs - before the motherboards had Bluetooth built-in. Getting a combination of a USB Bluetooth dongle and drivers that actually worked, reliably, with the specific device you wanted to connect, was akin to playing dice and trying to get all aces.

Some of us rate having a reliable system above having products that look 'sleek and futuristic' with no wires. Major, point me to the computers on which bluetooth is good.

There's always an exception, I'm glad it works for you. There was a long running multipage thread complaining originally about BT on Minis (in fact if you Google 'mac mini bluetooth issues' there's literally pages and pages of hits on dozens of sites), then a whole load of users of other Apple products came out the woodwork, including me.

Trimming away the fat, fact is BT doesn't work well for me, nor for a lot of other people. Be it the 'noisiness' of our local airwaves, or whatever the reason. The crux of my point was, it would have taken a few extra milliseconds of thought to have designed the mouse so it could be used tethered, for those of us for whom BT ancillaries are just a frustrating nightmare.

Some people have no issues, it seems. I'm not one of them.
I get that. I have problems with bluetooth on my apple devices too, sometimes.

I just think it's a bluetooth problem, rather than an apple problem. I don't think there's a good implementation to be had for love or money.

The result is a desktop surface with a Logitech mouse. Apple having some intention and reasoning behind the design does not mean it is no failure.

Wish they'd hurry up so I dont have to have a bunch of different chargers or adapters. Even my car is USB-C only now. I have to keep 2 sets of cables.

I'll accept that environment could be an issue. My MBP can only see four Wifi networks at all (other than my own) and all are low signal strength. And all exterior walls, and floors, are insulated with foil-faced insulation which might help further. Quite possibly close to zero interference.

I'm well aware that there has been much discussion of issues. But I do think it important to point out that it is not universal. Maybe doing so will suggest a direction in which to look - as you have re noisiness?

My car has both USB C and A, but, due to chip shortages, no wireless charging. So my iPhone 11 is on charge via a USB C to Lightning cable in the central armrest cubby whilst wirelessly connected to CarPlay. If overheating isn't an issue, I hope to replace this with a MagSafe charger plugged into the USB C port and velcro'd in the armrest cubby when I eventually upgrade the phone. 🤷‍♂️

Very much first world problems.

It would just be better all round if Apple had allowed us to connect it tethered. A simple design change, allowing for the cable to be plugged into a socket on the back of the mouse, would have satisfied all parties and alienated none.

For a short while I genuinely missed my Apple Mouse when I decided to lay it up forever. But now I've got used to just using a cheap wired Logitech B100 for occasions where my Magic Trackpad 2 doesn't cut the mustard (which is v rare).

I use two Logitech M350 Pebbles - one for mini, one for MBP. Fairly cheap. Bluetooth works fine. I don't think I have ever plugged in a mouse or a mouse dongle to my current machines.
