Is it possible that the Macbooks will be in stores tomorrow? Or will we have to order them, and have them sent? I'm hoping for a revised MBP with < 3GB RAM...

dont htin they ll be in stores tomorrow... probably anounced on the websit tomorrow and then will be in stores by friday i think,,, i dont kno i guess well have to see if new macbooks even come out tomorrow...i sure hope so though:D

5 sounds like a whole MB and MBP refresh to me.

I note refurbs of all are available on the Australian Apple Store if thats any indicator.

Oh wow, Noonster's post seems verrryyyy nice :D.

New poster/potential mac owner here, I have been waiting very patiently for this update, and I am really hoping that in 8 or so hours the new MBP hits the shelves!

I have a question for you seasoned veterans:

I am all too familiar with the crazy buying that goes on when apple releases new products, with things being in short supply and all (like the ipod mini, and people getting them with no choice of colour). Does this extend to things like this relatively minor tweaking of an already existing product? Canada has I think only 3 apple stores, all in Toronto, and I'm going to be in TO on the weekend, so would the stores still be in stock after a few days or will they be empty mere hours after store opening tomorrow?

Thanks!

(8AM get here pronto!!!!)

call the yorkdale store tehy are very nice, and if you are fr sure going to get one i think they can hold it for you with a cc number maybe. They had one for me set aside, but then again, it wasn t a new one it was a macbook like a month ago, give a try anyways..

When does Amazon typically start sending out updated Apple products? Is it usually immediate? I'm just curious because I was planning on ordering a MacBook from Amazon on Saturday.

The Macbook refreshes will include both the Macbook Pro lineup as well as the Macbooks.

As of Spring 2007, the Macbook Pro line consists of three models: two fifteen inch (1999U$D, 2499 U$D respectively), and a single seventeen inch (2799U$D). No additional configurations will be added. In its stead, the two fifteen inches and the single seventeen inch models will be revamped to incorporate the Intel code-name "Santa Rosa" chip as well as new LED backlit display.

The Macbook line currently consists of three models, two white poly-carbonate models (1099U$D, 1299U$D respectively) and a single black matte model (1499U$D) Due to budget and cost restraints, the low-end model will not be refit with new LED backlighting. However it will employ the latest Intel codename "Santa Rosa" chip set. The other mid-range and high-end Macbook models will similarly utilise LED backlit display and Santa Rosa processors.

Do not expect major design revisions in this update, but do expect performance specification boosts, (e.g. hard-drive, ram, graphic processor). In an effort to distinguish our Macbook Pro line from the Macbook line, a bigger discrepancy is planned between the models.

While it is policy to not release a specific date when the update will be executed, expect in the near future a revision to the current line up.

:apple:

I like it. Look up facts on current mac linup, state them in a self-serious, non-conversational tone to make it sound like you're providing useful information, then summarize/use a little deductive reasoning on existing rumors to come up with a likely scenario, and state it as if you know it is fact, although do not say so or give a source.

Brilliant. If only you were the first newbie on these forums do a trick like this.

I especially like how he uses the word "our" to sound like someone closely tied to Apple: "In an effort to distinguish our Macbook Pro line from the Macbook line, a bigger discrepancy is planned between the models."

I figured it out. Right now there are three MacBook models and three MBP models. Drop the higher-end white MB and you have the five models.

I know, that's no fun. We'd rather get two new MacBook models. Maybe I'm wrong and we'll get a key lime-flavored clamshell MacBook with speed holes.

But realistically, the trend for retailers is about simplifying the product line, not making it more complex, and dropping the high-end white MacBook makes perfect sense. Especially if Apple is planning on introducing the ultraportable later this year.

Seems really strange to me that Apple would put SR in the MBs before the MBPs, doesn't it? I mean, the pro line is supposed to be better - how could they justify a lesser processor in the Pro line.. even if only until WWDC. And, at the same time, I wonder why they would update the MBs (colors?) without throwing in the new processor as well, since they've made it a point (even though we thought they wouldn't get merom) not to handicap the consumer book (processor-wise).

Tomorrow will be interesting, indeed (if no updates, there'll always be all the complaint threads to read tomorrow :p ).

With speculation running wild and long hoped for wish lists unable to shake free of the fever that often prevents reality from co-existing peacefully with imagination, I am inclined to agree with your assessment at this juncture.

Another weekly false rumor. I highly doubt it. All current models are still being shipped within 24 hours. LOL

apple stores have boxes that aren't allowed to be opened

That's BS, my friend. With a surprise announcement (which ships and is available the same day), Apple stores receive equal notice as the general public. They sometimes get shipping notice minutes before the products physically arrive.

5 types..

Is it possible that the 5 different sku's are 3 for the updates MBP's with LED's and all that jazz... and maybe 2 new ultralight MB's?? It makes no sense to have 3 versions of the ultra-light, just two.. like 2 different variations of an 11" MB. Just a thought... but i'd bet against myself if it came down to it.

I'm still not sure what the MB could be updated with besides Santa Rosa. Colors - maybe.

But the only other options - sans SR, is shifting the clock speeds on the chips (IE: 2.4 - black, 2.2 - middle white, 2.0 low-end white). But if they are going to that trouble, why not go ahead and do the motherboard?

I'm hopeful, but not optimistic. The last few upgrades have seen reports of increased part shipments to the manufacturers, etc. Has Apple somehow locked down these leaks, maybe? If so - that's great, I guess. But if not - then (of course on a rumor site) we are just spinning wheels.

Here's to crossing fingers for a SR MB.

Its not that hard to beleive that 5 macbooks can be comming tomorrow.

Low End 13.3 in White
High End 13.3 in White
High End 13.3 in Black

15 in White
15 in Black

There are your five. Why is that really hard to beleive?

Specs should be 1.8 , 2.0 and 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Merom 800MHz bus CPUs
2GB DDR 2 667
Intel x3100 Graphics accelrator with 64MB for the 13in, and 128 for the 15in respectivly.
Up to 160GB 5400rpm user replaceable hdds
up to 1GB flash card for santa rosa tech
Led based screens.

Sounds reasonable to me. However my only question as previously brought up is... why release MacBooks that are superior to MBPs. That dosent make any sense....

The new Shuffle MacBook available in five new colors.

For some reason this seams familiar.

Ouch! Nice catch.

Unless these new Macbooks have LED screens and/or better graphics, I don't care.

That would be a good idea for the Black Macbook. Give it an LED screen to better justify the higher price and limit the number of screens required for an initial production ramp-up.

What really makes sense is the update of the entire mobile line. Except the 17in MBP. I dont think they are making the LED screens that big yet.

This way the Macbook and MBPs will both be updated at the same time.

Hmmm

If there ARE mbp updates tomorrow, I sure hope they have user-replaceable hard drives. Something like the mac pro, where you just pop them in and out. This would be VERY helpful for time machine, where if your hard drive fails (doubt it, but who cares) then you just pop one in, like steve talked about at WWDC last year. just my 2cents

Maybe the MPBs get Robson and the MBs don't, and they haven't got the Robson manufacturing down yet. Maybe MBs and MBPs get LED screens, but they have only received the 13" ones so far.

As you know, you go to market with the laptops you have, not the laptops you might want or wish to have at a later time. (Seriously though, they would probably want the new MBPs out a bit before the new MBs in an ideal world, but sometimes supply and manufacturing issues create situations that are less than ideal.)

I have no idea what, if anything, is coming tomorrow. If I could choose I'd pick three new 13" MacBooks and two new MacMinis, but I don't get to choose.
