say no to new colours!!!

Holy hell that looks horrific. In a way I'm sorta glad I got my Macbook in time. I remember I got my iPod nano (white) just before the new ones came out with the colors and metal cases. I couldn't stand that new look and felt lucky I got my white one just in the nick of time. I really hope they don't get rid of the white Macbook or rehaul the design in a bad way (like the iMac with that huge Jay Leno chin!)

I have to wonder if 3 of the new machines will just be white/black versions of the existing line so you can buy white or black cases for all three of the existing MB configurations. That would leave 2 mystery updates which might be white/black versions of a "high-end" MB. If that's the case, then an MBP update cannot be far off.

Whatever the case, if this is just a minor bump in specs, the prices really should come down. $1099 for the 13" 1.83GHz MB seems a bit overpriced.

Well, my vote is if this happens at all (good chance it's all BS),
the (Consumer) bit of the rumour is BS, I reckon, either way:

Macbooks get refreshed, without LED screens, just with Santa Rosa, and maybe a small price drop, or HD upgrade. Still gonna be 3 of 'em. Low and med White, and high end black.

Then there's gonna be two 15" MBPs with Santa Rosa, LED backlit screens, and hopefully a new GPU. I'm sure there will be some sort of GPU update, but I think I've lost hope that it will be the M. HD2600. Oh well, the Go8600 is pretty damn good.

I say there will be no 17" MBP update. No 15" Macbooks.

Hopefully, Apple's playing AMD and getting early access to Mobility HD 2600 GPUs, like they did with Intel's 3.0GHz Clovers.

WWDC will be a showcase of the iPhone, Leopard and related software, and the New, fully redesigned, Mac Pro with Stoakley Seaburg and HD 2900 XT option.

Finally, climb to the highest point attainable in the somewhat dizzy state in which (if having faithfully followed these instructions) you'll find yourself. Close eyes. Jump. Once should be enough. But feel free to improvise.

Then come back here and discuss your ideal Macbook!
Back for some drastically dumbed down conversation. What are we talking about here?

For all of us who were here 2.5+ years ago for the powerbook G5 epidemic that ruined everyones tuesdays for a good 3 months all I can say is relax. You know what's coming in the future, you just don't know when so let it come naturaly don't twist in turn all night and then wake up and check the website and see there's nothing changed and then have a horrible week till next tuesday. We can't do anything about it, but in the end Apple will make us happy as they have been for the last 10 years.
Cult psychologist... :D

Well the MacBook is Apple's best selling computer, so I guess they're just expanding the range a bit. My predictions:

13.3" White
1.8Ghz
1Gb RAM
100Gb
x3100

13.3" White
2.0Ghz (bto 2.2Ghz)
1Gb RAM
120Gb
x3100 (bto 8400 256Mb)

13.3" Black
2.2Ghz
2Gb RAM
160Gb
8400 256Mb

15.4" White
2.0Ghz (bto 2.2Ghz)
1Gb RAM
120Gb
x3100 (bto 8400 256Mb)

15.4" Black
2.2Ghz
2Gb RAM
160Gb
8400 256Mb

And all screens will be LED backlit as I doubt Jobs would mention LED backlights and then do an update without them.

i bought a white macbook 2.0ghz at an apple store this sunday and it had a loud clicking noise when i inserted a cd. today they gave me a new one, and it also has the loud clicking noise on the superdrive!!!

i hope they give me one of the new models tomorrow... if they are out...

out of topic: this would be the 2nd replacement, and i lost my whole day configuring again/driving to the store... does apple give you a freebie in this situations?

Dont worry about the loud clicking/crunching sound when you insert a disk in those MacBooks. Its normal. Seriously, they ALL do that.

Just enjoy it. :)

This will not happen. If anything, new laptops will be white macbooks and silver macbook pros with minor upgrades and you will be disappointed.:)

Wouldn't it make sense to release mbp instead?

Part of the trivia between the consumer and the pro is the ability to upsell customers to the more expensive model, which I'm sure is an aim for all computer manufacturers. If they release the MacBook first and it has some sort of slight edge over the current pro model, wouldn't it be downselling?? ie less money in the grand scheme for apple?

hopes for a new mbp for my 21st this saturday!! :)

It makes no sense to announce any new computers at WWDC. Focus will be on Leopard.
With the iPhone running Mac OS X Leopard Junior and Apple TV running Mac OS X it is a matter of time that iPod's also will move to Mac OS X. After all, if you can run the Phone on it, you will definitely be able to run the iPod with it. Especially if you want some of the goodies of the iPhone on the new iPods. After all, writing touch screen business twice for two OS's is a bit expensive.

So, my guess is that though WWDC is about Leopard, it is also about hardware. Apple is unifying its OS-line and Mac OS X is the OS that is going to run everything which has to have some sort of advanced interface. This wil have repercussions for the hardware lineup, from iPod to XServe.

So, my predictions for the coming months:
- New full size iPod's based on OS X with iPhone-like interface
- Only shuffles and nano's will still use the basic player OS without all the extras

Interestingly, while Microsoft calls it's device-OS "Windows" it is not Windows at all. It is an entirely separate OS. But Unix-likes like Linux and OS X will run small devices from phones (Nokia with a Linux phone, Apple with iPhone) to big servers and clusters.

MacBook is Apple's best selling computer. They need new MacBooks for the buying season more than they need new MBPs.

Also Apple lost the $999 notebook pricepoint when they moved to intel and have not been able to break the $1099 barrier since. Apple has always been a fan of clean prices. $299, $999, $1999.

If they were "fans of clean prices", those prices would be $300, $1000 and $2000

5 probably means current 3 models and two variations of the ultra thin model. They should just shave off the low end 1.83/60GB version. I doubt it sells as much as the other two.

If it comes out today then congrats to those that waited BUT what about Leopard.....would you still have to buy that in Oct or there'll be upgrade vouchers of some sort?

Five models?-X3100 Graphics on three, and a dedicated chip-eg. X1400 or GF7400/8400 Go on the other 2.

Also the 15th is near the one year anniversary, since the first MacBook cam out.

Re:

ARRRGGG!!! Why doesn't anyone understand that Santa Rosa adds almost no benefit to the MBPs!!!! The MacBook is a different story, marginally anyway. Penryn, to be released later this year, that is the only real new upgrade that will make a MacBook Pro refresh worth it for the consumer(well the exception is Leopard, but we shouldn't expect that until a few more months.) The new ATI HD vid cards need to be fleshed out a little bit longer with better drivers, etc.

Everyone needs to chill out before they hurt themselves with anticipation. People are just getting crazy waiting for the new MacBooks/Pro. They'll be out when Apple is ready to release them. Remember, we want quality, that's what Apple is about. They'll release it when they cover all the angles. Goodness. You're all acting mad. lol.
