I don't get this from MS. I mean, likely they are working away in the background on this, just not making any noises but that is also an indication they are not too close.

I understand the difficulties for MS in the Corporate market, but they could really make the effort and focus on the home user and build from there.

yeah I mean end of the day, if I think back over the years and all the times MS have said "here's windows on a super new CPU" and it's been a clunky mess of an implementation that didn't get anywhere.......

I mean sure, MS with all the different hardware available, software going back to dos, could be said to have a harder problem to solve than Apple but still, if with all the money and developers they have they still can't get the job done it feels like either lack of trying or they're just not good enough?

My feel is that they do want to get the job done but not enough to go all in on it. After all, majority of the world is using windows on intel so who cares? I think it would be very different if apple was closer to MS in market share AND more popular in corporates.

Personally I just find it a bit depressing. Every time I play with my m* apple laptops I'm amazed how silent, cool and capable they are... I want that for windows!

Exactly this. Just like intel not caring for so long as why should they, their market share was not at risk. That and the worst management.

Apple on the other hand doesn't really care as much about market share with a market cap of 2.6T vs MS at 2.1T.

You have it backwards. If they didn't care about market share they wouldn't be worth 2.6T. They cannot afford to show falling market share in any meaningful way.

No, I don't. My point is they don't have a significant market share and are still worth 2.6T. They don't need to worry about being the biggest in market share when you look at the market cap, revenue, or profit. Sure they want to grow but they don't need to get to any large share anytime soon, and neither do they want to or are capable of it at this point.

Here's how things are now. Work laptop, £250 4K 27" Lenovo monitor, the dream team mouse and keyboard, simple. I'm using my work laptop to access 365 for my side business so that's covered. I just need to decide on how I want to output my music. Feeling the Nest Audio to the right of the monitor would be good. Wires aren't neat but they sure do provide the best experience.

That looks rough and untidy for you.

Note: Just playing on your weaknesses to make you sell it all next week and go back to Apple for a change.

As much as I love the benefits of Apple Silicon, I do miss being able to run x86 Windows on my Mac either through Bootcamp or Parallels. It was the only way to come close to gaming on a Mac.

I hope one of Apple's long term strategies is to push Apple Silicon towards serious gaming. Hard to imagine Apple being competitive with NVIDIA, but one can dream.

It would certainly need a change in Apple's strategy for Mac which I don't believe is its intention. Never has been.

The reality is that the gaming market isn't ever going to turn to Apple for a gaming machine at the price/performance point today. It will very much be limited to the current user base which isn't enough for software companies or Apple to focus on.

Indeed, there's been quite a bit of discussions on this in the gaming forum here. My opinion is that if publishers don't think they're going to make a profit they won't invest in hiring developers. The new version of Cities:Skylines announced a month ago is Pc/console only no Mac. Someone reached out to the publisher and they simply said they don't have the developers to support the Mac. Just for a bit of context, the current version of Cities:Skylines runs on a Mac. It doesn't run well, but you can play it.

Yes, I tried Cities:Skylines on my M2 and was immediately impressed by the performance as a new city (vs previous Macs). Then I loaded an established City and yeah, not impressed at all.

Hyped for the new version, not at all surprised there is no Mac support.

I still play all my Steam games on my Mac but streamed from my PC. Even those compatible with Mac just can't match the overall PC experience. World of Warcraft is absolutely playable on Mac these days but for other games I play it's just not there yet. Way better than before, but still falling short.

Update on my 2021 Asus Zephyrus G14 with a Ryzen 7 5800HS and RTX 3060 with 16GB RAM. I use this for everything in my home office - gaming, writing on Scrivener, Office 365 including Outlook, Affinity Photo and Designer, Standard Notes, and Todoist. It also has worked fantastic with Azure Remote Desktop. I haven’t needed my work laptop in weeks.

I used to have a macbook, but got tired of managing mac as well, when Azure desktop would not allow me to truly get rid of it–the M1 Mac version doesn’t work with smart cards and even the virtualization options for Windows admit that you can’t use them for remoting into other environments. So now I am selling it after a couple of weeks with the Zephyrus.

What I really like about this is I get to take advantage of what companies are good at truly. Windows is versatile so I can use it for everything–from Azure remote desktop, to AI, to gaming. And I use apple for iOS and iPadOS–which it is exceptional at that.

I am truly shocked at how little I have missed Mac OS.

Same, I have my M1 MBP, but most things I need to do is either easier on Windows, or impossible on my Mac. Don't get me wrong, I really do like my M1 MBP, and I try to use it for many tasks but my Razer is just a better over all laptop

I still have a bit of a lock-in with Apple. We all use iPhones and all have Apple Watches. I have my M2 Mac Mini and my wife has her M1 MBA. That then leads to shared calendars, notes, and the like. Which is fine, all works well.

But, if the day comes when I say enough is enough to Apple, I can switch, no issue. This is why I never detach myself entirely from either platform. Tech enthusiast, not an Apple enthusiast.

I don't think that day will happen for me. The iPhone/iPad are the best products out there, and my MBP does have some uses. I thought however I'd be using the MPB a lot more then I am. I still find my Razer to be a better fit for my needs as I mentioned
It probably will for me, but not anytime soon. I think I'm past buying AS Macs though, even though I'd like a 14 MBP, I just don't have enough I could do with it.

I'll keep my Apple watch, and probably upgrade soon, and my iPhone I'll keep and probably upgrade next year (every other year for those usually).

Weirdly, my Apple watch is the only thing I haven't found a replacement for. I have 2 phones, the second is a Samsung Flip4, and I could easily go android for phone and tablet if I really get ticked off, but the watch, no.

I ended up with exactly the same workflows (for lack of a better word). I love my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” for tablet-y stuff (which is really the best on an iPad over Android and Windows). And if I get an android phone, I end up trying to tinker and root and other stuff. My iPhone just does its job. So gaming laptop (subtle though not all the RGB) for remoting into work and everything desktop related. Then iPad for media consumption and taking notes. Then iPhone for all the smartphone stuff. It works really well. And I absolutely didn’t expect it. Include my apple watch 6 in all that as well.

for me it's the other way around.
i could easily replace my iPhone with an Android, but workflow wise, my Macbooks are so much better for me than any Windows laptop i've owned.
of course i'm getting an even better OS when i install a proper OS on such a laptop,, but sadly the "PC" hardware isn't there yet, and i'd also have to let go of too many plugins that i love if i went fully Linux, despite being completely doable

I still use Windows 11 and Mac OS daily. I started out with Windows and switched to Mac OS in 2015 for my personal computing. I still worked on Windows for the most part. As someone who really likes Mac OS, I like Windows 11. It feels more Mac like to me?

I have looked at Android recently and it's not for me. It's just too convenient to have my SMS and calls available on all my devices no matter where I am (and necessary for my work).

People look at me weird when I tell them but I really like Windows 11. But I like Mac OS more.
