I think if we all got our buddy's computers folding for us, then these guys who only have one or two machines could get some more WU's done. There are alot of people with only a couple cpu's going. If they all got 2 or 3 friends on it, that would be tons!

Maybe, but some of us have friends that go 'wtf, I'm getting .4 FPS less than Usual!' 'Where did my performance go?!?!'

Next time I'm at a friends someone needs to link me to the secret install of folding and I will get the job done. :D

What you talking about, Willis?

We're still hanging around 25K a week, we just haven't been accelerating like we were.

We'll also be passing University of Alabama in less than 2 days. :D

FASTER! FASTER!!!

:D

I'm so confused, too many stats, all show different numbers.

For the last 24 hours:
Statsman says: 3,624.88
MacNN says: 3,212.8
Overclockers says: 4,351.06

So take your pick at the numbers... I WANT A RELAIBLE NUMBER SYSTEM, GAHHHH

Well, it sorta depends on how they figure 24 hours...

Some do it by day (midnight to midnight), some do it by the last 24 hours...and even then, if the servers are in different time zones they'll track things differently.

Just take a deep breath, and slowly repeat to yourself:

"Number 1 Mac team in July"
"Number 1 Mac team in July"
"Number 1 Mac team in July"
"Number 1 Mac team in July"
"Number 1 Mac team in July"

:D

Gonna be beaten my ABIT
Gonna be beaten a PC manufacturer.
Gonna be beaten a PC manufacturer.

We will be the #1 team, and that is great, but I want some reliable numbers, if you check all of the stats places at 1-2AM you Should get the same, or atleast similar numbers. Since macnn updates at that time.

currently it looks like July 10th will be the day we will own them.

Yup I am working on getting a new computer on-line this weekend to help out. We have also added fewer new members. <hint hint>

If you look at short-term like that, sure.

But look at the long-term graph. We've had consistent growth with peaks and then small valleys followed by more growth.

We're coming out of a valley and headed for more growth. Things are looking quite rosy.

Okay, If you want more members someone DIG up that damn invisible/process folding thing, so I can install it on some computer, if not, you losing a good 3-4 computers.
It's not invisible, but it's not as visible as an open terminal window. It's on MC68k site and there's one for dual procs and one for single procs.

no, not that. I think we ALL know where that is. The PC one.

For PC's

Windows, 2000/XP preferable.

Why don't you use the console instead of the graphical client for the PC?

MMM, you don't remember this thread?

The service one I posted from extremeoverclocking works well. But you have to do a little work. Download fah3console.exe and their zip has the files that you need. You can edit the bat file to put the files in a folder like c:\windows\system32\fah. Then in the .reg file rename the service to something like "tfah console" (Because nobody would know what that is, and there isn't much special in the t's.) I have a mostly modified version I could make availible to you, but it is on a computer at my office. I can send it to you monday if you like.

Just tell me where, what to install and I'm there.

Trust me, I'm stupid when it doesn't come wth a manual. :(

It even took me some help to install the mc68k script.

No problem, I'll make it easy if you plan on using it. First you would unzip the files, then double click install.bat. I will set it to run the fah3console automatically so you can fill in your name and team number. To make it truly stealthy you should set the cpu usage to 25% Nobody cares if their CPU is running 25%. (that is advanced options after you fill in your name and such.) After you setup the client you will need to press ctrl c to kill it. Let the script finish and then it should be running. (in theory. ;)) I will test it and make sure I give you explicit instructions. :)

But if I set it up for you, please use it. :)

Rookie questions

OK, I have been folding p638 for about a week now and I am about 36% done (400 mhz G3).

First off, should I have stats on the server yet or will that only come when I complete a WU?

Secondly, if my machine is completely idle, can I count on the client to use most or all available cycles?

Seems like I should be going faster, but I'm new at this.

First, Glad to have you one the team!

Second, you will only show up once you complete a WU.

Third, you might be a tad slower than my G3 400. I think it was finishing a WU every two weeks. Are you leaving much running? My iMac also had the RAM maxed so that might be hurting you.

Which client are you using, screensaver, app or console?

Well unfortunally, p638 is one of the biggest units there is, because I have one too and it is taking FOREVER.
*gah*
Your stats will appear when you complete the unit, welcome to the team. :)

The client (graphical I guess) does use *most* idle time, tho if the display protien is open that uses some CPU amasingly. And because of their lack of programming knowledge, it can't close untill you close the whole program. Genius...

OK, that's what I thought.

I have 512 MB of RAM, the graphical app, and yeah, I noticed that the deadline for p638 is 50 days...

I also love the feature of not being able to close the rendering portion once you've opened it. If you have the app hidden, is it still taking time to render?

Also, does this work at all while the computer is sleeping? I've only been sleeping my monitor since I started running it, but if that's not necessary I'm sure the poor gal could use some sleep.

You know, on top of sharks, the highly scary Komodo (sp?) Dragons hold secrets to lots of diseases too. I want to see a joint research facility made up entirely of KDs and sharks...... "Welcome to my laboratory...of DEATH!!! BuWAHAHAHAHha!!"

If the app is docked it uses less graphical CPU, but it uses even less if you go to preferences use 'alpha trace' and make the polygons the least, (left side)

Folding will be less effective while in sleep mode because the CPU is being powered down less power = less CPU power = Less folding.
I only do the 'turn off my monitor after _(1) minute' thing in the system prefs.

And yeah you get on that laboratory of death...

yes. i did a study on this before, and while it is not much, it still is some compared to the CLI, which has none.

sleep = no processes = no folding

keep it running

Wow starting with a 70 pointer! I think i had a 70 pointer hit today. I was 5 points behind mac focus, and now I am 100 points ahead! :D

How do I find out what unit I'm working on and all these deadline details and stuff? I'm using mc68k's scripts, also my beige g3 w/g4/400 is yet to submit a WU, although its on 330 frames now I think.

Edit: Okay jsut found the log files in F@H folder, processor one has been doing 638 for a long time, processor two is on 653, I thought processor two was getting ahead because it is not used as much, is this true?
