Things like this are why I have trust issues.

What's next the Verizon guy turned Sprint guy will do ads for AT&T?
Poor Paul can't get a break.
Finally lands a job at Sprint...only to have that company sucked up by T-Mobile. Maybe TracFone can hire him?

Sprint_Guy.jpg

It’s hilarious that they promote features that have nothing to do with the processor. Like a car engine maker promoting the soft material of the seats.
I can't remember which ad guy said it but this reminds me of a quote: "if you have something to say, say it. If not, use showmanship"

The sad thing is this will actually work. So many people have asked me what kind of a laptop they should get recently and I have (obviously) told them all the get an M1 of some flavour.

But until they spoke to me they had no idea whatsoever that M1 existed, or that there was anything wrong with Intel at all. I still think Intel are probably (eventually) ****ed, but it's going to take a while for the news to filter through.

The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed.
The future is not M1, the future is many types of ARM based CPUs, from different manufacturers.
There won't be a single manufacturer for everybody.
As there is no single car manufacturer for everybody, few people drive Audi,BMW,Fiat,Lexus others drives Ferrari,Porsche,Maserati.
Doesn't mean you won't get from A-> B with Audi,BMW,Fiat,Lexus, probably you get even better from A->B with them.

If somebody ask me what they should buy, I ask what they want to do, How much they can/want to spend, and ask what kind of other devices it must work with, then i suggest something, but I would not enforce my biased point of view on them...

I guess Apple should have paid more to keep him, maybe giving him a salary just to be the exclusive Mac face.

Nah.

Justin is only relevant and familiar to an OLDER GENERATION of Mac and PC users. If you ask any Millennial (or younger) today, they were young kids back when Justin was doing Mac-PC commercials, and they can't relate to him and don't cede him any celebrity status.

The only people that Justin is irritating are.... the older tech geeks here on MacRumors. Who are old enough to remember (and maybe participated) in the Mac-PC Wars of the 1990s and early 2000s.

Thus, the "reach" of his Intel ads is very small.

”2nd place” in terms of what?

Marketshare of consumer laptops? Intel still has lead. Apple is yet to go above 10% worldwide marketshare, making it #3 or #4 depending on who’s counting.
Your own proprietary criteria? Sure.

Future prediction? Yeah, right.

Referring to viability as a CPU for consumer market. AMD is killing Intel right now on desktop. Laptop is in the midst of transitioning to AMD. New trend now for gaming laptops is AMD CPU + discrete GPU. Even non-gaming laptops, consumers now prefer AMD performance, lower power consumption and longer battery life over Intel. Just got my first AMD laptop and not going back to Intel until they move beyond 10nm. The one advantage Intel has is better video hardware encoders and decoders such as the latest AV1 which is currently lacking on both AMD and Apple.

Overall CPU
AMD > Intel > Apple

Form Factor
AMD & Intel 2-in-1 and convertibles > Apple clamshell

OS
AMD & Intel multi-boot Windows/Linux/Hackintosh/BSD/ChromeOS > Apple MacOS

Cost
AMD > Intel > Apple

Lol 30 pages of people big mad about some guy who plays pretend for a living doing something they don’t approve of. They probably identified with the guy’s character back years ago thinking that they were just like the character and wouldn’t become some nerdy PC, and would wear hoodies and headphones at work, and know all abput little known bands before anyone else.

Let me hold the mirror up here....All these upset people who identified with the character, all ended up growing up and becwhat they are now accusing the actor of being. Sellouts for a dollar.

Is M$ going to hire that goofy stoner chick, Ellen too? I wanna see her surface 💐

Intel inside or not, I’m just glad that Macs don’t have an ugly sticker! Can not believe they called that out as a good thing. Gross! Macs (and iPads) are so classy. I’m not sure that I need my Mac to be convertible but I’d love a touchscreen.

In fact, iPads are looking more and more like Surface tablets. Keyboards with trackpad and stand, stylus (sorry, "pencil"), cursor and mouse support in ipadOS. Microsoft was just coming from the other direction.

The great thing about the PC ecosystem is that you have a choice. You can get a traditional laptop, an convertible, a laptop with detachable screen, or a tablet with attachable keyboard. And the pen support in Windows 10 has become very good (I use it often for freehand drawing during remote meetings on my company laptop).
Sure, you've got choice. My question continues to be - why hasn't that choice been adopted at mass? If you want a great PC or a Laptop - you still need to buy a dedicated one. If you want a great tablet, you get an iPad (pro). Buying a 2-in-1 just gives you a mediocre result, or fills a niche, at best. Vs, the iPhone / iPad - which despite popular opinion - were just unequivocally better.

and is it not true for the last 2-3 years, all Apple have been doing with the iPad is to try and turn it into a 2-in-1
Uhm... I wouldn't say that "all Apple [has] been doing" is turning the iPad into a 2-in-1. That's just you. Out of the box, an iPad (pro) is still only a tablet. The keyboard mount is an *expensive* extra. And an M1 Apple laptop does not have a touch screen, let alone, foldover to become a 13" iPad. In software, slightly, Apple is opening things up. They are adding elements of 2-in-1's to both their iPad and Mac laptops. But, Apple is not making 2-in-1's ... IMO.

So back to the OP's post

"Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?" i.e. are 2-in-1's, otherwise, worse?
"Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor." i.e. No. 2-in-1's are universally better. Period.
"Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate." i.e. DONGLES, accessories, limitations, choices made "FOR" you, etc
"You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop." i.e. more proof 2-in-1's are universally better
"Fact." -- OK, why hasn't the MS Surface Pro or 2-in-1's as a market whole replaced the iPad (pro) or, at least, taken 20, 30, 50%, or more of its market share? (You've had 10 years, now...)

Features *OF* a 2-in-1 are beneficial - but based on nearly a decade of sales I really don't think you can make such unequivocal statements as: This Intel commercial is "100% accurate". Both the iPad Pro w/ Magic Keyboard (a faux 2-in-1) and true actual 2-in-1's are both niche products for a niche audience. The laptop of a 2-in-1 being the mass market item, just as much as, the iPad Pro is the mass market item compared to the niche utility of the Magic Keyboard.

But, in response to your input / quote: I'd ask you, why is Apple's last 2-3 years of locked down, limited, controlled, 2-in-1 efforts more well received then the last 10 years of unlocked, unrestricted, complete freedom of choice offered the Surface Pro and Laptop 2-in-1s?

Hasn't it? How many convertibles are being sold today (serious question, because I don't know)? Given that all the OEMs are offering them, they seem to be popular. I also see quite a few people running around with Surface Pros.

Well after reading this I didn't have to watch the TV ad. I just saw it in this post. SMH. 🙄

Really? Cause you didn’t quote the last paragraph. And I didn’t get into any specifics. Plus... it’s just my opinion.

I haven’t even seen the ad. So I can only assume that my preference for Windows laptops is what you shake your head at. Again... if you consider my last paragraph, I say Windows or MacBook, you’re good. I highly doubt that ad gives the MacBook any praise or as a recommendation.

The obvious irony notwithstanding, these kind of ads are long past their prime. Nowadays people will get their buying advise from YouTube vids. Then there are the countless folks who just don’t care about tech specs and buy for the user experience alone.

I definitely agree with one part of this video... Apple's lack of options to sell over priced dongles is hard to chew. There is no reason whatsoever why Apple couldnt make a laptop/tablet and add more PRO features. Especially on the MacBook PRO line.... I mean it's named PRO for gods sake, not Macbook + give me another $1000

It's what you do when you're the underdog. Now the role reversal - Intel is now the underdog.

Agreed. And they're just not appealing anymore.

I'm building my next PC with AMD Ryzen... and my next laptop will be an M1 Macbook.

Intel isn't on my radar.

I know I'm just one person... but I simply don't have a need for Intel anymore.

I'm not suggesting Intel will go out of business because of people like me... but these commercials indicate that they must be feeling some kind of heat. They're getting squeezed on all sides.
