You think they are stupid and I think they are pretty cool.

You do not live in LA or New York. This happens all the time.

I just watched this happen in DTLA this morning.
lol that explains a lot what happened lately in the US, and during the last years ;)

I don't need any Ad, actually I use an Ad-blocker everywhere, but sometimes I can't escape the TV(winter here) and there they try to brainwash me, but luckily fail.
It's sad enough that I remembered these ads, because they just made me shake head.

What a sell out/s

I don't get Intel. Why are they even targeting Apple. For a company that makes devices that can calculate on their own at nm level, they should be smarter than this.

Apple Silicon will NOT be sold as a competitor to Intel. Why are they afraid? My only guess is they are trying to scare people away from ARM processors and keep them on their golden goose x86 which IIRC they have a monopoly on.

and that guy looking old since the teenager hippy he used to show up as is scaring me.

Last thing I remembering him in was Waiting. And Live Free or Die Hard. But his IMDB shows he's been working pretty steady. Obviously nothing some here would have been interested in watching.

He probably does care at all for who he act, as long they payment is fine, and does not include any ethical questionable stuff.
Nothing ethically questionable, just might not be good for career or personal brand.
Why should he be emotionally attached to Apple?
We have lots of friends who are actors. Most of them will not do spots for direct competitors, not for moral reasons, but because it tends to damage their person brand.
And if he needed the money, whats the problem?
It is a question as to how much he needs the money vs. downsides of doing the spot.
You don't need money? Woke up rich?
Again, there is nothing wrong with needing the money, the question is the short term cash vs. longer term negatives.

What? yeah they will. Apple competes directly with Windows based PC's. Huge market shares worth are Intel based. And competing with AMD Based PC's. Going all Apple silicon will absolutely be directly competing with Intel. Maybe not a giant market share since Apples focus is more on their mobile devices.

Seriously though, those kind of ads are much more interesting to me than most ads that talk about the product. They are just filled with fun dancing, parkour, pure visuals, and so on... Speeds and feeds ads from anyone are usually the kind I skip.

Well, I bet he weighted up pros and cons, and made his decision wisely.
It's up to him, and I think it won't negatively impact his career, despite having a few moaning fanboys noise in background, like in here, which will fade off anyway.

Doing those Apple ads 12 years ago never seemed to have been a lasting issue for him? it’s not like he thought at the time this was going to be the pinnacle of his career or doing the Intel ads now was going to be the end. It’s likely he has been paid far more now than he did working for Apple all those years ago. He wasn’t an Apple employee and let’s be honest, when he was working for Apple back in the day the real “enemy” was microsoft not Intel.

Might be me, dunno, but I hate Ads, specially Ads that does not show/reflect the "real usage" of a product.
If I want see fictive stuff, I simply watch a fantasy movie.

This was a okay Ad for me, showing the real usage:

And considering the M1 was only Apple's 1.0 product, it's telling how scared Intel is looking in this. Get ready for the next round of Apple machines and CPUs - should crush the numbers. Almost wish Apple would throw some money John Hodgman's way.

Actually, it's flexible. It can bare metal Windows, Linux, BSD, hackintosh, ChromeOS, etc. M1 is limited to just MacOS.
So it can run many bad laptop OSs instead of one good one. Except that ChromeOS is suitable if you have limited uses, but for that you just buy a cheap Chromebook to begin with.

Actors and actresses cannot be too fusy with regards to who they work with because it's paid work for them. If Intel are paying him good money to do the advert then all good for him.
If it was just any actor, that would be quite alright however Justin is well known for the Mac ad. If it was me, I would be concerned. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

They already brought him back for one of their last keynotes.

Oh Justin, you used to be so dear to us Mac users but now we see that you followed the money. I'll let Intel have their glory for just as long as it takes Apple to release machines that will rid us of dongles. I suspect the life of that spot will not last very long so enjoy it while you can. Perhaps we can look forward to the PC Guy starring in an Apple ad depicting him as Frankenstein getting a new brain "M" processor?

Why are people making such a big deal about this. He’s a paid actor, whoever writes the biggest check, clearly he’s going to favor. Plus, he’s not really relevant in the filming industry anymore, so his impact is meaningless.

Why attack Apple when AMD is eating their lunch on x86?

Both Intel and Apple are competing for 2nd place. Between the two, Intel has more potential to displace AMD once they stop being stubborn and move to Samsung or TSMC 5nm.

Now
7nm AMD > 10nm Intel > 5nm Apple

Future Prediction
5nm Intel > 5nm AMD > 5nm Apple

The sad thing is this will actually work. So many people have asked me what kind of a laptop they should get recently and I have (obviously) told them all the get an M1 of some flavour.

But until they spoke to me they had no idea whatsoever that M1 existed, or that there was anything wrong with Intel at all. I still think Intel are probably (eventually) ****ed, but it's going to take a while for the news to filter through.

The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed.

”2nd place” in terms of what?

Marketshare of consumer laptops? Intel still has lead. Apple is yet to go above 10% worldwide marketshare, making it #3 or #4 depending on who’s counting.
Your own proprietary criteria? Sure.

Future prediction? Yeah, right.

Justin Long probably needs the money. The highlight of his career was the previous Mac ads. Nothing else stood out for the last 15 years or so.

Also, he did represent Intel Macs then.
