The dude's just making a living, man 😕
True, but a part of me thinks you look like a sellout when you take loads of money to represent one company, then completely jump ship for the direct competition. I mean no disrespect, but maybe Justin is as desperate as Intel.
Sadly I bought a Thinkpad Yoga (similar to the one in the video) as my daughter's first computer. Have always been a Mac user. She was raised a Mac user, but she wanted a computer and tablet in one because she loves Affinity Designer. The Thinkpad Yoga is one hell of a solution. I wish Tim would use one for a week or two. BTW, we spent quite a lot so this was NOT a price-driven decision (the X1 we got was pretty expensive, but nicely loaded). BTW2: Thanks Affinity for such a great product, and porting to Windows.
The thing that doesn't often get mentioned is the integration/ synergy across all the Apple devices. Also let's face it, Windows 10 is pretty good, but still sucks compared to MacOS. Then you're going to pair it with an Android? It's just not going to be the same experience/ integration as an Apple computer / Apple phone.

How anyone thinks this is good advertising is beyond me. It just makes the actor and Intel look desperate.

OMG. I didn’t watch any of these ... time is too short on a busy day ... but REALLY looking forward to the obvious next step, where Justin eventually does an Apple commercial ... once the M1X or whatever it’s called gaming machines start to hit people’s desks. There used to a phrase, can you recognize the echo? “Intel is doomed”. 🍸😹

It’s funny how this thread hasn’t been moved to wiki? Usually when they get this much response they stop comments and move it to wiki.

So NOT true. Apple handled no hardware. They only talked about Mac benefits. And I just love that you had to dig up Apples ad from well over 10 years ago to make your non-point. Try again. 😂
Dig up Apple Ads from 10 years ago??... I love how you think ads from 10 years ago are not relevant. As of the time of your post we are up to 703 comments. Clearly Apple's ads 10 years ago are not so irrelevant.

Can anyone really say this advertisement is wrong?

Because it's not. It's 100% accurate. Regardless of the actor.

Anyone that's using Mac knows this is accurate.

You don't need 56 accessories to use a 2 in 1 laptop.

Fact.

But it doesn't run macOS. That's what was missing here.

Now, anyone that says that Windows is good enough/just like/better than macOS doesn'tt know macOS.

Wrong. Most of the comments aren't even about Apple's Get a Mac ads from 10 years ago.

Don't hold your breath Martini. Apple has been talking about how they are the ultimate gaming platform for about 10 years now. And it's not just a joke, it's an embarrassment. Apple will never be a gaming platform because they have no idea of the gaming world. Don't go there unless you have a clue of what you're talking about.

All I know is that I don't make my purchase decisions based on who is in the ad. Does the product do what I want in the best possible way given my constraints and expectations? Sold.

LOL........ 🤣

also, there’s a reason Apple never made a touch screen Mac and they will never will to protect Steve Job’s legacy:

The latest macOS has spaced out menus and controls for one very good reason... to make it finger-friendly. A touch-screen Mac *is* coming, and a foldable one (as per a tablet) makes perfect sense, not the traditional MacBook-style lapop.

Yeah, Intel's honestly got problems if this is how they are responding to the M1. Instead of throwing gobs of money to get a very specific actor for an ad, why not throw it into ACTUALLY COMPETING instead of whining that their competitors are just leaving them in the dust?

Intel has called on the services of former "I'm a Mac" actor Justin Long in a series of new ads in which Apple's latest custom-made M1 processors are cast as inferior to newer laptops powered by Intel processors.

Well known for his role in Apple's popular "Get a Mac" TV ad campaign from the 2000s, Long stars in a series of ads called "Justin Gets Real" on Intel's YouTube channel, beginning each video by introducing himself as "... a Justin – just a real person doing a real comparison between Mac and PC."

In one ad, Long promotes the flexibility of Windows laptops, specifically the Lenovo Yoga 9i versus a MacBook Pro. In another video, Long meets a PC user gaming on the MSI Gaming Stealth 15M laptop, powered by a Intel Core i7. Long then asks for a Mac, before swiftly agreeing with the PC user that "no one games on a Mac."

Other ads include Long throwing shade on Intel's behalf towards Apple's lack of touchscreen Macs, the inability to plug more than one external display into M1 Macs, and the variety of different options available for laptops powered by Intel.

Intel undertook a similar marketing campaign in February with a series of tweets highlighting the "shortcomings" of Apple's M1 powered-Macs compared to Intel-powered computers. In November, Apple released its first Apple Silicon and is expected to fully transition its entire lineup away from Intel over the next couple of years.

This isn't the first time Long has featured in ad campaigns for Apple rivals. In 2017, the actor starred in a series of Huawei commercials promoting the company's Mate 9 smartphone.

Can't these companies come up with ANYTHING original??

And I stand by what I said. It makes zero sense to reference ads from over 10 years ago. Do you want people constantly digging up your past and throw it in your face, especially if it was controversial? If you're thinking a 10+ year old ad is relevant then you're only being Anti-Apple are part of the crowd here who can't stand to see Apple get any adulation.

well I would throw that problem at Apple, choosing a silly form factor; stupidly thin to suit a narrative without any real ventilation leading to throttling etc.
Well they took the existing design, removed the fan, put the M1 in, and resolved all the throttling issues while almost tripling the processor power.

Wow, they're really grasping for straws... Intel really is that far behind, with no hope of catching up.
Their only hope (I hear this is their plan) is to get TSMC to make their chips - Intel can't get below 14nm, TSMC can. Intel will become just a patent holding company.

This will come as a shock to some on here, but Justin is an actor making a living. His personal opinion on computer hardware and operating systems, was as irrelevant during his days advertising Macs for Apple as it is now advertising Intel boxes. He says whats in the script and gets paid. That was always the gig. Since he got stereotyped with the Apple ads, I'm glad he got this opportunity to make some more money from that persona.

That all said, I'm not sure this is a smart move on Intels part at all. To really go with this, you have to have the better product in so many respects and its obvious by what they target in the ads, that they don't. Macs are not perfect (again a shock to some) and they could indeed be better, but this isn't smart unless Intel was a clear winner. Still lets, hope it spurs Apple to fix some of the blindspots it has in its designs.

I would have never guessed that Intel would stoop this low for a rival chipmaker (and current customer) just a few years ago. It speaks volumes on the importance of leadership.
Intel is an American company. There is no such thing as true "leadership" in any American business. Its all executive bonuses and shareholder value.

Lol 30 pages of people big mad about some guy who plays pretend for a living doing something they don’t approve of. They probably identified with the guy’s character back years ago thinking that they were just like the character and wouldn’t become some nerdy PC, and would wear hoodies and headphones at work, and know all abput little known bands before anyone else.

Let me hold the mirror up here....All these upset people who identified with the character, all ended up growing up and becwhat they are now accusing the actor of being. Sellouts for a dollar.

Is M$ going to hire that goofy stoner chick, Ellen too? I wanna see her surface 💐
The iMovie project? That's Gisele Bündchen.

I thought the ads were funny, but doesn't make a difference, since I am already using an M1 Mac. Do I care about connecting 3 monitors? Obviously no, I don't even care about connecting one. The ad showing the different devices Apple wants you to buy is true, but I personally don't want a PC that does everything. I have a Surface Pro 3 and I hardly ever use the touch screen. Contrast that with my iPad Pro, its the most natural touch experience on a tablet device.

The touchpad on my Surface Pro 3 stopped working a few years ago, I recently decided to try out Windows as a Touch only environment (in desktop mode) and its amazing how lousy the experience. I rooting hoping that this is one area Windows would excel at over iOS.

Apple marketing department must have thought “we did create a monster didn’t we” after watching these.

Doing those Apple ads 12 years ago never seemed to have been a lasting issue for him?
What does that even mean? He did a set of ads for Apple.
it’s not like he thought at the time this was going to be the pinnacle of his career or doing the Intel ads now was going to be the end.
It is not a question of “the pinnacle of his career”, but simply a brand with which he was closely associated.
It’s likely he has been paid far more now than he did working for Apple all those years ago.
Based on what? That was a long running series of ads when he was way more relevant. He is not currently a great brand ambassador for Intel, as he has already done ads for Apple and Huawei. That means anyone who knows who he is discounts his statements as he is viewed simply as a paid spokesman, bringing nothing of his own to the ad.
He wasn’t an Apple employee and let’s be honest, when he was working for Apple back in the day the real “enemy” was microsoft not Intel.
Again, I am not arguing he should be prohibited from doing these ads, just that quite a few of our friends who are actors will not book ads for competitors in a space because they feel it detracts from their brand and value. It does not matter if the Apple ads were targeted at Microsoft, Intel is targeting Apple and that is the point.
