As long as the 4GB iPhone nano allows me to make calls, take pictures, play music & tethers to the forthcoming Mac tablet/netbook for Internet access, I would be good to go...

Well all know this is just an excuse for Apple to put 'Pro' on one of the iPhones and charge an extortionate amount for it...

I really hope they don't go the "software differentiation" route. That seems awfully Microsoft to me, kind of like their half-baked (and thankfully repealed) notion to let Vista Starter Edition only run 3 apps at a time despite no technical reason why it couldn't run more. The reality is, if they attempt to differentiate the models by imposing artificial restrictions the hacking community will certainly find a way around it. I hope Apple is better than being reduced to this kind of move. Now, if the high-end "iPhone Pro" (that's my vote for the name!) had significantly better hardware that could certainly open up a new level of application complexity. That would be a much better way to differentiate the models!

Just my $0.02

I have to agree with some other pessimists alike myself, I find it very hard to believe that they will bring back the 4GB. If they want to give one away for free, they'll bring back the 8GB or something.

And no iPhone nano, idiots.

Seriously, there are so many incompatibilities it just wont happen.

Cant ****ing wait for July 10th though (What I assume will be the release date)

I am already in line! (Jokes)

I'm planning on getting the 32!! :D! omg, i can't wait!!!

Edit: I know a lot of people who has iPhones and don't have apps, music or anything like that, just to make calls and web browsing. Example, my aunt!

yes, hoping for a price drop in my country (currently € 525 for an 8 gb) and then i'll buy the 32 gb one.

If there is a 4GB model, it's the cheap model. It has a cheaper contract with restricted data, it has no wifi, hence no need for free wifi on the contract. It might use the existing iPhone hardware (2MP, ARM11, etc) rather than the new hardware, but I think it makes sense to have a common platform. No GPS. No compass. Maybe the Chinese market version. Free with $30/m contract or whatever you pay on your side of the Atlantic.

The 4GB is interesting.

They got rid of that pretty quickly because nobody wanted it before. So I think it is either the China iPhone, or there is definitely something else that differentiates it hardware or software wise and also it would have to have a different plan with AT&T or you will still have a $100+ a month bill and that defeats the purpose of having a more affordable model.

Here we go again...

If the hardware was significantly different then it would be understandable...but if, like the above poster said, they cripple it with software...I don't know, it just seems like something Apple would do...

Anyways none of this matters...its probably not gonna happen...in fact im not gonna comment anymore...just wait untill the keynote :)

Wwdc

I just wish it would get here so we can all check the Apple website or Apple Keynote podcast to see what IS coming so all these rumors could be laid to rest.:apple:

The difference in price between 4 and 8 GB of flash RAM is really small. Too small to make sense as the main differentiating factor, imho.

Let me join the guessfest...
Apple keeps the existing iPhones as the new low-end models (now with OS 3 and a lower price-point though) and introduce two new iPhones as the high-end models (more RAM, video, GPS, OS 3 etc).

How much hardware/software differentiation can there be? The app store would become useless to half the new customer demographic. Maybe there won't be as much of a hardware upgrade as we thought.

Well.... Ok.... I'm reluctant to comit any more enthusiasm than that as I'm not convinced fragmenting the brand is a good move... It would make more sense if they had a lower spec model for china, but this is dodgy ground I feel...

What about the iPod Touch? If low end iPhones arrives with cheaper price, who's gonna buy them, i'm using touch, i love it, but i prefered it because of 32 gig. What's gonna make iPod Touch special now. 64GB?

Is it time to post a big "I told you so" to all the people here who berated every body who explained that Apple would do precisely this (offer lower end hardware) to differentiate the iPhone line?

I think it would be pretty humorous to see what the self proclaimed experts who posted that "Apple only builds high end hardware, they will never sell a low end iPhone line" have to say now.

Still not interested unless you can sell it to me with no data plan. I have no reason to spend $70 a month on a phone. Hell, $40 (well 50 after taxes and txt) is almost too expensive, but what can you do.

I was the first line at the local Rogers store last year when the iPhone was finally introduced to Canada. Even while I stood there while the cool rain fell and I contemplated catching a cold for my stupidity, I knew then that Apple would come out with a 32 gig model.....

....and that once again this year, I would get in line again to grab one.....
