I actually don't mind at all when major competitors' news makes it to the Front Page, but I do take issue with how it's billed to try to justify it... "Four takeaways for Apple users" - none of those four points are relevant to me as an Apple user at all.I expect many here will pipe in with "Why is Samsung on the front page" but I appreciate MR's decision to cover a major competitor's keynote. I likely would not otherwise have any clue what Samsung was doing. So, thanks MR.
And for Samsung users, I'm sure they're feeling good about what they saw today. Yah for them. And here's the fun part - it's completely possible to let them enjoy their day. Both Samsung and Apple user bases have fun things to discuss and - crazier - both platforms can coexist. ?
And that is a significant testament to the iPhones, is the consistency and longevity of older iPhones that still receive support with iOS (Using the iPhone 8 for example). But, the hardware typically doesn’t have issues, other than the battery might need to be replaced.I have a 6+ year old iPad Pro running like a boss. The truth is most people around me are using iPhones 3-5 years old. They all benefit from the long service life and features that come with several years of software support.
Why stop at 14"?14" tablet. Lol, why stop there?
Ha! Good point. Totally agree.I actually don't mind at all when major competitors' news makes it to the Front Page, but I do take issue with how it's billed to try to justify it... "Four takeaways for Apple users" - none of those four points are relevant to me as an Apple user at all.
Not even a punch hole for the iPhone? 🤣Zero takeaways from this Apple user. 😝
The easy fix is to never buy an Android phone - especially a Samsung - at RRP. Here in the UK, you can pick up a £409 mid-range A52s 5G for £295 easily; a OnePlus 8T 12Gb RAM model is just £350.The downside to really any android phone, is the value plummets horribly compared to the iPhone. It’s not to say that it’s not a good phone, it’s just something I think consumers are generally shocked by compared to an iPhone, and that’s also partially due to popularity.
Nope, it’s gorilla glass victus (their newest version)Think it’s a plastic back btw
only thing I liked was the OLED on the tablet, enough of this mini LED crap and trying to avoid paying out for OLED all the time ffs.
also, how many f@#king times do they want to shove the word INNOVATING/INNOVATION/INNOVATIVE/INNOVATES down our throats, it was cringe And pathetic.
I also expect the iPhone 14 pro lens to look like the ultras lens, not flush but not a massive bump anymore.
They might surprise us next month and announce the IPad Air 5tth gen with an OLED display… doubt it though.Hear that Apple?![]()
It’s called marketing. Move on.So, when their marketing mocks Apple for having a notch, are they completely unaware that their own product development is about to add a notch? Or do they know and just not care?
Yeah but I never said anything about Samsung phones. I also have seen people with older Samsung and Android devices. The difference? They aren't using the newest Android which certainly means lack of features available to them.Meanwhile, I can show you dozens of people in my circle using Samsung phones that are also 3-5 years old.
You're on an Apple fan forum. It's more a matter of people not being able to image a world where one could want something other than an Apple product. I like and can appreciate Samsung's devices as well as Google's new Pixels. They are both really nice devices with basically the same features and overall experience an iPhone user would have. I just used and helped set up a Pixel 6 Pro for a friend. I was really impressed with how fluid, fast it was, and the camera was incredible. I just personally don't trust Google enough, nor do I like Android as much as iOS/iPadOS/macOS. Most of the apps are cross platform and apps make the experience in large part. I just prefer the closed nature of iOS and find it to be superior for my needs. Some Apple users on this site can see beyond their own needs. They can’t imagine a world where one could need something *gasp* outside of the Apple ecosystem. They would cut off their noses to spite their faces. This is not how tech-minded people should behave. Competition and innovation moves technology forward - not stagnation. Someone has to make the big leaps. At times Apple does it, and other times a competitor does it. It doesn’t make one’s contributions any less important than another’s.
I guess my point was, consumers don’t know android phones have plummeting resale values. They don’t have the mindset they’re looking at how much potential resale value after owning the phone for two years. But then again, it doesn’t really matter, because Consumers typically trade their devices in anyway to upgrade, they generally don’t care how much they’re receiving for a a credit. It’s not like they’re recuperating cash from selling a used car for example. A tech device is nothing more than a simple commodity that shouldn’t be detrimental how much somebody can receive in return after they trade it in.The easy fix is to never buy an Android phone - especially a Samsung - at RRP. The S22 series announced today all have massive trade-in values - even for worthless, broken phones (£200 on top of trade-in value at Currys/CPW) - plus free gifts like Galaxy Buds and 12-month Disney+ subs that can be sold on and offset against the purchase price.
Basically, if you're getting an Android at 30-40% off list price somehow, the resale value suddenly isn't so bad.
I'm not sure how many iPhone people have ever actually used a modern Android phone, but it's rather nice to be able to have a device unlike anyone else. Every iPhone looks exactly like any other. It's so boring and homogenized. To be able to personalize your Android phone with so many cool effect and designs, it's rather nice. And that is a significant testament to the iPhones, is the consistency and longevity of older iPhones that still receive support with iOS (Using the iPhone 8 for example). But, the hardware typically doesn’t have issues, other than the battery might need to be replaced.

That really doesn’t make much sense in terms of how consumers think though. It’s common knowledge that iPhones have a very strong resale value over android phones, and that’s not to knock Samsung devices. But the reality is, it is due to the sheer popularity of the iPhone.Quality is always vendor specific.
Android tablets outsell iPads. Is there a market for Android tablets?
Android essentially gave up on tablet software years ago. Even big tech companies don’t have Android tablet specific apps. It’s just blown up phone apps.
That seems true. But I think that’s partially because the garbage quality of ‘Android tablets’ really helps sales, because they’re appear to be considerably cheaper under the iPad.Android tablets outsell iPads.
All Samsung devices use Android built by Samsung. It uses Google code but it is quite different from the Google version of Android with some major enhancements (like Dex). The fact that Samsung needs to promise Android updates for a certain number of years is still beyond ridiculous. They don't make the operating system and thus should have nothing to do with this. If they didn't insist on shipping their own fudged version of Android, people could just upgrade their Android version whenever they please and the world would be a better place.
If I'll ever buy an Android phone it'll be a Google Pixel, because hell will have to freeze over before I'll allow Samsung to be the useless middleman for my mobile operating system.
Cheap tablets address a real need. Many Apple users might have bought a cheaper iPad too but there is none. That seems true. But I think that’s partially because the garbage quality of ‘Android tablets’ really helps sales, because they’re appear to be considerably cheaper under the iPad.
When S8 was released Samsung had fewer models: just two S8 models (S8 and S8+). Now Samsung has more S-models. For example, S21 line has four: S21, S21+, S21FE and S21 Ultra.Samsung went down ....even the S8 had 1440p display and now the S22 is 1080p
