The unsubsidized 32GB iPhone 4 at twice the price of the 32GB iPod touch is looking pretty hot right now.

- IPS display
- 256MB more RAM
- GPS
- a real camera
- a speaker that doesn't suck testes
- a sexier enclosure
- feedback motor

I'll gladly pay twice as much for a device that's 4x more awesome (perhaps more than 4 times...the real camera and the GPS is priceless).

I waited and waited for the iPod touch 4G because I do not need a phone...but I now realize that was a mistake. The iPhone 4 is the device I need. I know the unsubsidized/unlocked/contract free iPhone 4 isn't available in all countries but it is available in mine...so I will be buying that now that I know that the iPod touch won't see new features until September 2011.

But no radio

Yep..crApple does that with many of their products...

Why include something that you can add later and charge people for an "updated" version. All about the $$$. Nothing wring with that as long as you realized you are being played like a fiddle.

borrowed from other models.

Well, the next incremental iPad will get the crummy cameras of iPod for its upgrade just to get into the Facetime game.... Let see if Apple will get that upgrade or at least do a decent thing.

It would be really funny for iPad with a video camera to be seen at use because it is this huge block with a large screen and I can bet no anti-shake capabilities so it would take horrendous videos (or should I say hilarious videos ?). Haha.:D

This year the only 'win' for me has been the retina display.

I'm getting sick and tired of Apple drip feeding us technology and telling me what I need and when I need it.

I'm voting with my wallet on this one.
I'm not even going to wait for the fabled iPhone4 hardware update in Q4.
Instead I'm putting my pounds towards a HTC HD7 when it's released.

After disappointments that the updated iPod Touch last year did not receive a camera, this year is the vibration. So is vibration a high probability of being in the generation iPod Touch?
I'd say yes. Vibration is a missing key feature in this years iPod Touch refresh.

And you know what they say about us people... you can't please all of them. It's never enough [for some]. There's always something else to complain about. The wish list just keeps on growing. Next years one: Why doesn't it fold? :D

At least now we know what the iPad refresh will bring; the exact same front facing camera for Facetime.

So Apple was like:

"Hey guys what's that round thing again?"
"I don't know, let's check on MacRumors, they know more about our devices than we do"
"Oh right so it's a vibrating motor!"

Anyway, the vibration motor that the iPhone uses is bigger and longer than this, I'm sure it would not have fit in the iPod Touch.

Ive checked the UK page just now - the original wording including "vibrating alert" is still there, only the US page is updated so it is a bit confusing right now and I wouldn't be surprised if that UK page is also due to be updated.

It would be very stupid to advertise such a thing and then not appear at all on the actual ipod touch when many deaf people including myself would treasure vibrating alerts on an ipod touch so we can be silently alerted to facetime calls to communicate to others on wifi. Hm, interesting to see that it is removed at such a late stage so Im sure many deaf people would be up in arms to see that and have to fork out so much more for iphone 4. I am not surprised this has caused some anger here in this thread when people who have bought it believing it has a vibrating alerts now feel they have been duped!

The level of ignorance on this forum beggars belief.

FaceTime on the iPod Touch promised to give deaf people (especially kids, many of whom can't afford an iPhone) a new way of communicating via sign language. Without vibrating alerts this is useless.

Sad day.

Why is this such an exciting feature that they're keeping this from iPod?

Or is it to save space?

No its probably Apple been Apple. Nothing special about it, but we would not want the iTouch to be an iPhone do we

The complaints are merited, there is no reason to have kept such a cheap small piece of convince out, they probably did not do it because of technical reason, on top of that, their own marketing thought it had it which says a lot about what should have been to what it was. Camera been downgraded, my take on that is the same they are afraid people will walk away from the iphone in their little paranoid minds.

I just wanna know if I can get away without buying an iPhone 4 for testing my basic, hand-crafted/low budget games. I know it's not right but us small devs can't afford every device out there all the time. Retina resolution alone should be OK; I must also support older hardware (3GS, 3G perhaps?) as well, so no big gain in performance is not an issue really.

IT STILL DOES HAVE A GYRO, RIGHT?

Well, Apple has done a bang up job of taking something that was once a slick device and dumbed it down to a cheap Chinese made piece of crap. Seriously, it started with the packaging and has now ended with the actual device. Don't bother including stuff just to throw it in there, I mean really! Good job Apple.

There might in fact be a good reason. One that Apple isn't going to share with anyone. I mean what if this vibration motor would have demolished the electronics in the new slim design. Would you have accepted it? I don't think so.

How can you "downgrade" something that wasn't even there? No prior iPod Touch model had a camera. Now we have two. To me that is an upgrade rather than a downgrade.

Also. The front facing camera is similar to the one used in the iPhone 4. It also shoots pretty decent video with the camera on the back, and since this was impossible with all previous models... making it another upgrade.

And while I understand that [some] people are disappointed about the camera on the back. That it isn't as nice as the one used in the iPhone 4, but that can easily be explained: It simply didn't fit the new slim design and thus it isn't there.
