Sure, but they advertise it like it was a gaming warrior.

Yeah I know. They make it sound like people would actually want to use it for games.

O wait, where are my PSP and Dsi? Man I can't remember. Why, because they never grabbed me like an ios device even though they had every opportunity.

Why do people assume games must have high powered hardware. Even though I am no fan of the Ds, didn't Nintendo disprove that argument with the wii?

The iPhone 4 has by far more powerful hardware than the PSP and the NDS. I don't see how anyone can attack it from that point either.

Well the controls or lack thereof. Sorry but that seriously limits the gaming capabilities of the touch/iphone IMHO.

I hate to say it, but I think it's about time we iPhone users (who pay more up front off-contract [and more in-contract]) got something better than the folks who pay less.

Don't think you can get away with paying less!

And as it's more powerful than the previous gen, why shouldn't they?

People really don't understand computers at all, do they? bigger numbers != better performance - there's more to it than how much ram is installed.

Actually, the iPad is living proof that 256MB sucks.

Unless you like your Safari pages reloading all the time by themselves, or the fact that Backgrounder totally sucks and closes all the time due to lack of memory.

No such issue on the iPhone 4.

Just saying.

...

Anyway, that's just my home office (hence the all-Mac environment) and I have a couple of other Macs, mostly older ones like the eMac on one of the pictures...

Anyway, from time to time, people question whether I even have a Mac. Bloody hell, of course I have. Otherwise I wouldn't moan about them!
LOL I had a bit of a déjà vu. Is that/your office window looking into Thailand?

p.s. Just ignore the winers when they start with their usual: "You are a show off". Aufwienersnitzel ;)

No one complained that the iPad doesn't have enough RAM. 512 MB for a mobile device is a lot anyway, my mom's computer has that much RAM and it runs fine. And yeah, if you're rich, you get an iPhone 4 anyway. If you have less money, you get an iPod Touch, so you want a cheaper device rather than one that's almost exactly like the iPhone.

What about the A4? Is it also only clocked at 766 MHz like on the iPhone4 or is it 1GHz like on the iPad?

Wrong. I complained DAY ONE of iPad release that it didn't have enough RAM.

But of course. Apple had to do this in order to stretch the battery lifetime [for a single charge]. People simply don't need the 1GHz :p

Yea, sorry to all the iPod Touch users out there, but I agree.

at almost $400 cheaper, something's got to give, and it's a completely legitimate reason why people should stop whining about how gimped the iPod Touch is, when in reality, it's quite a nice trade off for not having to commit to any contract.

And even after all it's shortcomings to it's big brother, I must say the iPod Touch is still a killer device. The best in it's class.

Come on people lets not be sore here.. the iPod touch will never be exactly spec to spec with iPhone, the iPhone is apple's big dog product, having an iPod touch with exact features just minus the phone, will cannibalize iPhone sales for sure! Apple will never do that, but iPod touch 4 is still really the best iPod ever, for sure.. if I didn't have an iPhone 4, you better believe I'm getting a new iTouch 4!!

Exactly.

iPod touch buyers stupidly expected an iPhone 4 without a contract, spec for spec, and only succeeded in setting over zealous expectations that would never be met.

If you want an iPhone 4 and the tech in it, buy an iPhone 4.

Don't be arrogant enough to expect/demand Apple to give you iPhone 4 hardware, minus a contract, for half the price.

I allowed myself to believe Steve Jobs.

This is NOT an "iPhone without the contract"

There is a reason for all of these false expectations. And that reason has a name, Steve Jobs.

Hush up and drink your cool-aid before they HEAR YOU!!!

On topic; I think the new iPod Touch was a nice upgrade. Like some people here have previously stated it's an MP3 player not an iPhone. When you compare iPod Touch to other MP3 players I think it does just fine. 256 megs of RAM is a decent amount for a device like this. And you can't directly compare different devices (ie. iPod to Zune or whatever) cause they run on different platforms etc. iOS might be able to squeeze a lot more out of 256 megs than some other OS. While the amount of RAM matters the overall performance is also about manufacturer's optimizations.
