Seems security isn't very tight at Foxconn after all… Guy just puts the shell in his coat pocket and walks on out. (smh)

Whatever happened to "doubling-down"?? 😱

This is a very unfortunate situation. Not that I condone illegal activities, but this worker is likely poor and simply trying to provide for himself or his family. It is easy to look down on him for doing something illegal, but faced with similar circumstances there isn't anything I wouldn't do to ensure that my family were taken care of.

We also need to understand that as readers and commenters on sites like MacRumors, we are contributing to the thirst for part leaks and the shady practices that accompany them. Not to put the guilt trip on everyone, but we cannot read stories like this and shrug it off as if we are not part of the equation.

Does this guy deserve to rot away in a brutal Chinese prison for swiping a couple of iPhone shells? Absolutely not, but the world is a complicated place. I feel for anyone that was depending on him.

Admittedly, I don't have all of the answers about how to solve the problem. Apple does have a large role to play. I'm not sure if Charlie Rose discussed this with Cook on the second installment of their interview, but I'd really like to hear Tim's thoughts.

You're right.

Engineers would just accidentally leave the prototypes at bars, before it even reached mass production.

Its highly unlikely they would allow ANY worker to take a prototype outside of Apple. It would most likely be locked securely before and after working hours.

The funny thing is, the real shell was snuck out of Foxconn in July—yet we already knew what the design would be as early as the end of March, due to the leaked schematics.

I hear North Korea is bad too.

China is probably one of the last countries I'd want to commit a crime in.

There are a number of really bad countries where it's not too healthy to commit crimes.

Sadly, here in the U.S., with our zillions of lawyers, personal rights people, factory, corporate & other type of "business" crimes punishment is most times a mere slap on the wrists.

The higher up the food chain you sit, the less it is.

I wonder what kind of damage control Apple will have to do when this guy is executed for his crime.

Why would Apple have anything to do with it?

It's a human rights issue in China. It should open up people's minds to why we are buying products, from practically every manufacturer, that are made in China under slave-type labor. The people over there who are barely surviving are helping us to have better lives by making the products we buy, and we don't care about them at all.

If they paid more than 1$ per hour, and people didn't have to work like slaves, They wouldn't compromise their morals for 1000$... Well at least more of them...

No one is forcing people to work at Foxconn. Spare us your melodrama.

This poor guy... Stealing is wrong but I'm pretty sure his consequence is going to be bad (and he may even /himself).... he *probably* only did it because of the lure of a few extra bucks... $960 may seem like little to us, but it's probably a LOT to a foxconn worker.

Less than two months salary. I wouldn't risk my job and going to jail for two months salary.
