Not sure courage is the right word to describe adapting to an inconsistent user experience or experience that needs to be explained but regarding the bezel that definitely exists on the iPhone X it’s thicker where the notch is.

That definitely isn’t something people were complaining about on previous iPhones do you agree?
[doublepost=1510599920][/doublepost]View attachment 735298 If you’re the type to watch a lot of video in horizontal full screen mode then the notch and possibly the rounded corners will bother you.

Or this design probably bothers you that there’s no notch or curved corners that cut off or cover content.

Not as much of an issue on the 8 plus compared to the xx

The content is usually in the middle of the screen. Not in the far right corners or sides. When I watch my 70 inch tv. I don’t get in my recliner and aim it towards the corner of the tv. C’mon.

I’ve been a iPhone user for a long time now. I own and have purchased Android phones as well. I’ve been wanting a phone with a smaller bezel ever since I saw the Sharp Aquos a couple of years ago. When I saw the rumors of the X. With the Notch. I and others said. I’ll give it a try. If I don’t like then I’ll return. You get at least a 14 day return.
Some people wouldn’t dare buy the iPhone X. No give me my bezels they screamed. It took courage to try something new. It took courage for Apple to bring us the X. They knew it would be haters. I’m glad they made the decision to redesign and make the X. All screen edge to edge. Now I see if you want a bigger size iPhone. The X Plus should come out next year. Holding on to the chin and thick bezel is going to leave you high and dry. The X is the future. Accept it.
Thanks for the dialogue.

Got it.

Just when thinking of the word courage trying a different phone isn’t the first scenario that comes to mind.

Takes more courage to hop in the car and drive on the freeway Imo.

If bezel less or getting as close to bezel less is the goal then the iPhone X is the only option for iOS.

The iPhone X, extra wide(tall)tv. Technologically more advanced and more expensive than your standard wide screen tv although in many use cases not necessarily a better tv.

Kind seems like a waste to reserve that entire black bar on the bottom just to place a logo. Couldn’t they just put it in the bezel like everyone else? We’re people complaining about that?
haha nobody sane is going to buy that thing it just has bezels covered in pixels xD
crazy they actually stuck a logon on there, maybe because of some design error ?

When I watch my 70” I notice if there’s dirt or distortion anywhere regardless right?

But i guess people have different needs and or requirements for their media consumption.

Could be a dealbreaker for some. There are some very real, specific compromises you have to make with the x.

Ask whoever designed the iPhone X or iPhone X envagelists.

That being said I really considered buying a tv like this to remove the top and bottom black bars while watching movies which the X in theory would kind of do. Can’t deal with that notch though.

Ehh maybe Black Friday will have a good deal on one.

Haha man on man, we got ourselves an Apple zombie.

Lots of FaceID fanboys try to make that argument that touchID can fail with wet or dirty fingers and try to say they are even steven.

I say that the rate at which a person has dirty or wet fingers is far lower then the rate that they might want to, say, open the phone while lying in bed, open the phone while its lying on a desk, open the phone while its on a magnetic car vent holder, etc. "Feature not a bug"? Seriously? Its worse bro. For sure for sure.
[doublepost=1510599343][/doublepost]

You can open the phone while its lying flat on a desk with face ID, I do it all the time. And yes, while lying in bed too, just not while keeping the phone way off to the side. It won't work with a bag on my head either -- so what?

hahaha so the iPhone x WILL be the best phone for watching "cinema wide" movie format, never even thought about it. You guy's watch theater movies on a phone ?

It's definitely a dated look when you revisit the Plus size, but I can see people wanting to go back if they use landscape features a lot. The 6/6s/7/8 design looked dated when the 7 came out, I am actually a little surprised they kept it around for so long. With all of the changes to the X though, it makes sense. Apple likely wants to ease people into the future design/gestures/Face ID. It can be quite the change for people not necessarily tech savvy.
[doublepost=1510579886][/doublepost]

Apps not being ready is the only thing I would consider, although only 4 of my 48 aren't optimized for the X screen. The other issues are not widespread and will obviously be replaced/remedied by Apple.

True. It is a generation one product so all the kinks are getting worked out by early adopters. Remember the iPhone 4 antenna issues? They resolved it and more with the 4S. While the X looks nice, I think the best play for me is to wait until next year when the phone is more polished and there are more size options available.

Nothing wrong with that also. I personally haven't experienced the issues people are describing. I suppose I've been extremely lucky with Apple devices (never had antenna issues either). Either way, the current design/software will only get better.

Wide screen movies on iPhones? Of course.

I cropped its a lot smaller on the x compared to the plus but even cropped the x has a notch on one side covering content.

To all the people saying they are going back to a + after using an X, all I can say is, wow! 9 days with the X and I held a + today (which I had been using for 2 years) and seriously, what are people thinking? Is it just me but it looks and feels old fashioned and HUGE!

Dumbfounded anyone would want to 'go back'

Some people aren’t ready to evolve into today’s tech. They like the look of chin thick bezel phones. Pixel, Note, iPhone 8 and others. I’m a X user. Embracing the Notch and loving the size of this edge to edge screen design. X is the future. Other phone makers will copy and follow.

But come on, 14 day return period, its day 9 and loads have returned them after just hours/days, why aren't people keeping and using them for 14 days before making their minds up? Bizarre. As every day goes by the more antique the old design iPhones look and feel.

OLED screens when calibrated are superior to LCD displays. Face ID for me. Is more convenient for logging into apps and websites. For password entry. When unlocking my phone. Face ID is quick. As soon as I lift the device it opens. I’m unlocked and ready to go. I have large hands but even typing one handed in my 7 Plus was slower. Now I type one hand non stop. Watching videos on this HDR OLED is Amazing. I use the X in full screen landscape mode. No chins. Apps are updating every day. To improve the look of there app on this display. In a couple of years. You will be able to adapt because you won’t have a choice. For now enjoy the chins.

Haha, normally I would totally agree but IMHO these topics become more relevant as the days go by. The longer you use the device, the more you just 'get it'. All of you that have 'used' the X in an Apple Store, 'used' the X for just a few days before returning it or going back to your old style iphone will just never 'get it'

I would be shocked if anyone that went balls deep with the X didn't stay with it beyond the cooling off period.

It took years for people to stop buying dumb phones or flip phones. To even try a smart phone. They can’t let go of the home button. Fortunately there will be some sort of SE model for these customers. Where they can buy old tech and enjoy it like it’s new. I’m sure Apple won’t put a OLED on a SE anytime soon.

The X OLED panel foes edge to edge. Not bezel to bezel. People that own the X. Won’t notice the Notch after a few minutes of handling the OLED Beast. When the device has chins on the bottom and top. It’s a waste of space in my opinion. It took courage to let go of the home button and chins. Some people won’t like it but that is why they sale a iPhone 8. For the few that can’t let go yet.

These posts just emanate an overwhelming scent of narcissism and a general lack of respect for anyone else.

People have preferences. Some of us don't want an X because of its shortcomings, or because of the significantly smaller usable screen space, or because of the notch, or because of the issues that gen1 Apple products typically have, or because of etc etc.

Being all high-nosed about it and making it about money or about a "lack of ability to adapt to change" is a copout pile of garbage for an excuse and is completely missing the point. Honestly some of you fellas need to get over yourselves.

I’m in the same boat.

Never really experienced any of the battery issues or even bad beta install issues with Apple products.

Only issue I had was the video card issue with the 2011 macbook which Apple gutted and replaced for free like 5 years after(2016) after it even came out. Shoot I’ve even had cracked screens replaced for free without Apple care lol.

Apple FTW

Isn’t it great that people can buy the present now (7/8) and buy the future later? What’s the big deal?

I’m on a plane now, dozens of people are happy with their iPhones ranging from rom SE to 7/8. No reason for those people not to keep them for years.

haha interesting perspective, it's a bit odd to read the quotes all put together like that.

Vs Pro X answers which basically says:
[....]
3. You don’t like new technology
4. You don’t like new things
I think it's more than that, more like:
3. monkey's don't understand new technology, I'm a human - just look at my phone.
4. monkey's have no style, you will never understand what we are talking about, we have style, just look at my phone!
5. poor people are unworthy, i'm a good person, just look at my phone, 256gb full of holiness!
6. Tim Cook is the one and only pope, buy his phone and get saved you poor dirty infidel

These guys aren’t wearing expensive clothes, must be because they can’t afford expensive clothes. Probably can’t afford an iPhone x either.

100% agree! The screen on the X is perfect and the size of the device is even better and now the plus or even the 8 looks old... and I own an 8 and an X. The bezels all around just look like such wasted space.

I would never buy a phone with FaceID, personally, but that’s just me. That’s why i’ll be sticking with my 7+ for as long as it lasts, and then searching out an updated SE (if they continue to make new versions of it).

If you actually read my post. I stated that you have choices for whatever device you like. I never mentioned money or class. You are mistaken. The future is the X. There is no going back. Enjoy chins and bezels now. All phone manufacturers will copy Apple.

I like this drama unfolding.
Notch and edge to edge design is the result of aesthetic over functionality. Looks cool but does not work well. Sad that user experience is no longer apple’s priority when designing a product. I am not buying a piece of art. I need it to be useable first, then it may look good or not. That is not that important.

Well, next year. We will see. I don’t think X+ will go well despite everything being upgraded. Oh, and the headphone jack dongle. And the useless wireless charging.

Well...

The 5.8”(not really 5.8”) screen and the “edge to edge”(not really edge to edge”) screen is cool but the notch is not cool.

Not really a dealbreaker either but also not a hands down better user experieince than the 8 plus eespecially considering they have almosty identical back cameras and internal hardware.

Do you have anything to back that up? Ive used both and touchid is 2x faster in most cases. And ive already mentioned common instances where face id is at a 100% failure rate like lying sideways in bed and trying to check the phone.

What you need to realize is there is a difference between different tech and better tech. Faceid is different tech and i get that its new and fun. But its not better tech, e.g. it doesnt solve the problem better its actually worse.
This is how today’s tech companies work. They want to bring people new stuff. They want refresh. They want changes. So they make it happen, for the sake of bringing new stuff, for the sake of refreshing, for the sake of changing. “Something is new does not necessarily mean it is better”. Those companies surely either forget it or don’t bother it at all. Aesthetic over functionality.
Using a tech in a way it is not supposed to be used, does not make the tech worse than Touch ID. I could complain that Touch ID doesn't work with wet fingers, or it doesn't work if I don't position my enrolled finger correctly on the little circle. Face ID not working when the camera can't get a good view of you, is not a valid complaint. Touch ID doesn't work if I can't reach my phone to touch it, or if I hold my finger sideways on the circle.

FaceID is better, because it is more seamless. It does NOT take 2x longer to get to the home screen using Face vs. Touch. This has been videoed and posted here. It is a very negligible difference longer. If it is taking you 2 x longer, you are not swiping right away, but are instead waiting for the lock animation to unlock. I pick up my phone and swipe in one motion - BANG - I'm in. To be any faster is almost impossible and it isn't slow (maybe a tad slower than touch ID), so the correct term is super fast (but maybe not quite as fast as touch ID). Then again, failure rate is less with Face ID, since, unlike Touch, face works if you are wet, dirty, etc.

Face ID solves the problem of wet/greasy/dirty/oily fingers. Face ID is more secure and is way faster when using in apps and websites. Not being able to use it lying sideways in bed is a feature, not a bug. The camera can't see you from every conceivable angle, just like holding your finger on the little circle not quite right and touch ID won't work.

In essence, Touch ID was a PHYSICAL process, that required you to align a finger/thumb physically on a specific touch point. Face ID is a digital electronic process, where the physical aspects of mapping to a math representation of your face are done without the user even really noticing. That's why it is more seamless. It is done in 3D space, with a much wider vantage point for use, since although your face has to be viewable, there is way more play in that angle of viewability, than in physically positioning your finger on tiny circle.
Well well. Your use case must be very common that everything is working perfectly fine, whereas for many other people, some “niche” cases they encounter everyday are enough to drive them away from shiny new tech. I understand.
However, do remember: never expect everyone using the product in the designed way. That’s why we have extreme test. That’s why we have hacking. That’s why we have complains about some unique scenarios.

If iPhone ex has no notch, I might like it more. But it has. So aesthetic over functionality. I do like the gesture and Face ID concept (not the product cause first gen). Edge to edge is prone to touch screen error.
