No one is stupid enough to talk in absolutes, but I think this is about as black and white as it could be without being able to poll every single iphone user. In all areas where iPhone X and 4.7" iPhone 8 differ, the X beats the 8 in every conceivable way. If they both cost the same and only those 2 options were available, the number of people who pick the 8 would be negligible.

Wrong :D

[doublepost=1510680160][/doublepost]
You're using the opinion of your office as some sort of justification, price will always subconsciously be in your mind when comparing the devices. I've owned all 3 phones, and after using the X for almost 2 weeks now it is miles away better than the previous generation iPhone. You won't understand until you actually use the device everyday. A lot of its benefits come through with consistent use.

FYI, i think your above points are really miniscule. Notch is not bothersome, aspect ratio is fine, when you get used to the gestures you'll simply wish your other devices had it, and the OLED screen is just better in every way. You also mention 'switching'. When someone already has an 8, that's a completely different discussion.

Your using your own opinion to guess how all iphones users think and act and purchase.
His office people are a better/higher ratio than your own individual guesses :D

I do miss the screen size of the plus though. I would have liked the X to be a little bit wider. Everything would have been bigger and less dramatic when it comes to apps that haven't been updated yet.

You're posting fake news again.
You dont need to have your full finger correctly on the circle. It will unlock and recognise partial finger scanned and even just the edges of your finger.
Also touch ID does work sideways and upside down unlike Face ID ;)

No, that's incorrect. You can position your finger wrong (or not quite right), so that it won't read the enrolled finger. I'm not saying it will not ever recognize a partial or edge scan, but you can't just position your finger any old way and expect it to always work. Just like you can have your head positioned not quite right angle-wise for the camera with Face ID. The sideways/upside down part is true, but generally when I used TouchID it was not that way, so it is not a big imposition with faceid.

I can totally understand people who liked the width of the Plus wishing the X was also wider. I never had a Plus, as the form factor always felt a bit too large for me, but the screen size (which I observed in stores and with friends phones) was nice. I won't lie, if they had not come out with the X, I would have been sorely tempted by the 8+ as I definitely did need a new phone this year, and I would have just dealt with the larger size rather than go with the 8. I think the X screen size is probably a "bigger" (ha) bonus for those coming from non-Plus size phones, or for people like me coming from a 4" screen.

Hopefully all the speculation is true for those Plus owners who still want larger screens and are okay with a larger form factor, and an X+ (or whatever they call it) lays ahead in 2018.

If the 8 and the X are the same price, here are the reasons to choose the 8 over the X:

- Correct aspect ratio when watching videos.
- No notch.
- No FaceID (the main reason I don't want an X).
- The same user experience across all their current devices (i.e. not doing gestures on one thing and different on an iPad, for example).
- Tried and tested screen, which to many people is far more comfortable to use (see the complaints of headaches when you using the OLED on the X).
- They're basically the same phone internally... negligible power increases and camera increases wouldn't make a lot of people switch.

You can count pretty much everyone I know in the "negligible" category. We've talked extensively about it in our offices over the last two months and pretty much everyone is in agreement that the X is a beta phone that is full of gimmicks, with a very questionable design / use of technology.

So no, I'm afraid you're wrong.

Just answer me one question, and the point of this whole thread, have you bought, used and lived with the iPhone X since launch? I’m guessing no, so as I originally said, you just don’t get it if you haven’t breathed this device for 12 days.

Ive used it for 11 days so my opinion doesnt qualify yet. But I have gone + to X to + and am very happy.

The things I miss the most about the X:
- Size. After 3 generations of + phones then having a smaller phone feels amazing
- AppSwitching. Its just so natural. It can easily be implemented in the UI for iOS12.
- Animoji. Just kidding. I'm filing that in the Heartbeat/DigitalTouch drawer.

The things I like most about switching back to +:
- Screen Size. After 3 generations of + phones then having a bigger screen feels amazing
- TouchID. I never knew how much I used it. I need to apologize to my + for not appreciating TouchID
- Car Use. My mount is about 2” short of FaceID detection. So I have to lean in or hold it to turn it on.
- Control Panel. I also didnt know how much I used it. Having it in a natural position is nice
- One-Handed Use. With Reachability I could touch every corner of the +. Reachability on X is awkward

Overall the X is a solid device. But once you get past the hardware it feels unfinished and unrefined. Like it should have had a more unique UI (Dark Mode?) to actually feel like a step in a new direction. By as it is then once you get past the new gestures then it’s just another iPhone.

Anyway, I intentionally set up my return kit by mail so I will get 5 extra days to try the X some more before I make a final decision. (Spoiler: The idea of having $1400 back to play with during Black Friday makes me pretty excited.)

Like Steve says, it just works ;)

Care use on a mount, never thought of that. Ill give you that for sure
Reachability I disagree on, once you get the hang of it I don't notice any difference
Control Panel I agree

No I haven’t. That wouldn’t change my opinion though, I know. Aspect ratios and screen real estate are very important to me, working in video editing. The X fails spectacularly on both points.

And I detest FaceID. Both in theory and in practice. So spending any more time with it is uneccessary because those fundamentals can’t change.

I don't need to justify my purchase, the cost of the X is a drop in the bucket to me. I bought it because it's better than anything else that was available from Apple. People getting headaches is pretty laughable, i bet they're looking at their phone too much with the screen too bright.

Why are you so emotional? I'm starting to think all of these anti X threads/posts are severe coping mechanisms for some people. You should be happy that you don't like the phone enough to spend $1,000, that should be a win for you. What's really going on is that you are trying to justify to everyone that the 8 is on the same level or even above the X (a premise which is laughable).
The X Hate is Droid users or people who couldn’t afford the X. To many people are taking it personally. Getting emotional about a X they couldn’t afford or didn’t want. When obviously if they where priced the same. They would purchase a 5.8 inch OLED over a 5.5 lcd.

I'm sure there is some hate and envy in some users that participate in this forum. I'm not sure I would say OLED is better than LCD. Burn in is a huge consideration when looking at TVs and now something to consider on phones. If you look at all the hoops you have to jump through to prevent it from occurring on a TV then you may understand why folks would avoid it on both a phone and TV even if they could afford it.

To all the people saying they are going back to a + after using an X, all I can say is, wow! 9 days with the X and I held a + today (which I had been using for 2 years) and seriously, what are people thinking? Is it just me but it looks and feels old fashioned and HUGE!

Dumbfounded anyone would want to 'go back'

This tells me that you never needed the plus in the first place.

OLED screens when calibrated are superior to LCD displays. Face ID for me. Is more convenient for logging into apps and websites. For password entry. When unlocking my phone. Face ID is quick. As soon as I lift the device it opens. I’m unlocked and ready to go. I have large hands but even typing one handed in my 7 Plus was slower. Now I type one hand non stop. Watching videos on this HDR OLED is Amazing. I use the X in full screen landscape mode. No chins. Apps are updating every day. To improve the look of there app on this display. In a couple of years. You will be able to adapt because you won’t have a choice. For now enjoy the chins.

Really?

I see more plus haters on this site than X haters. And most X people complaining are ones that owned both. Anyone who can afford the plus can afford the X. So don't go there.

They're going back because of money. They figured that they can't afford it or would rather spend that money elsewhere. The percentage of iPhone users that would prefer a + over an X (when money is NOT a factor), is so small it might as well be non-existent. They likely had a + phone from before, didn't feel the other new features are worth the price tag, they go back to the old phone and put $1000 back in their pocket. Simple as that.

Just like how you couldn't afford yours and your DAD bought yours? I seriously doubt you bought his. lol.

I’m a Mobile Tech Review subscriber. I saw Lisa’s video. She is apparently a fan of the X too. If you don’t like the X. Then there is a device for you. Last year’s tech. In a couple of years we will see you on the X side. Thanks.

Yep, but the X isn't all that great with it's inaccurate colors, worser battery life, and some of the other flaws like cold touch issues, faceid not as secure as touchid, etc. Glad you like your X, but it has flaws.

Every device has flaws. You are only focusing on a small amount of defective units. Face ID is more secure then Touch ID. Touch ID has its flaws. Can’t use with gloves or wet hands. Fingerprints can be copied just like a face. My battery life is better on my X. Then on any plus model I’ve owned. This is a OLED PANEL. Color is more accurate on it then a LCD PANEL. I don’t work for Apple but I’m happy you have a choice of device to use. The X is the future. OLED is the Present. I’ll see you on the preorder threads next year. When you are ready for change.

7+ and X owner here

So I don't have Plus/jailbreak/new iPhone FOMO

:D

So far my 7+ will probably just be used around the house/when X is charging, etc

The wider plus screen makes it seem bigger but in hand I appreciate the narrower X

Idk?

I also held my 7 Plus today and it does feel dated now, I could not go back BUT would love an X Plus!

I don’t understand the x plus craving

X feels Soooo good in hand. Returning to a surfboard even filled with screen, would seem bittersweet at best to me

You act like Apple lied about there product. They have said that younger children and twins may be able to unlock your device. What about when Touch ID came out and people made copies of finger prints to unlock Touch ID. If someone wants to break the law. They will. You can use a passcode.
That is false.
Many people have fooled face id and most of them are not even identical twins:D
Even identical twins have different fingerprints thus making Touch ID more secure than a face scan.

Twins should not buy iPhone X lol

Lol
My wife and her sister will be able to get in each other's device with no problem.
And people try to say face id is more secure.
It's definitely not more secure than a fingerprint.

You want me to show you plenty of videos with people unlocking others iPhone x that are not twins or even related at all?
Copies of fingerprints?
I never heard of such issue before for over 5 years that Touch ID has been out.
A fingerprint is more secure than the unreliable face id recognition currently.
