I really looked forward to 12 for its iPad Pro-like design. However, lack of 120Hz is disappointing. I may skip it after all.

120Hz is an absolute must for OSD (obsessive scrolling disorder). Your eyes will thank you.

I really don’t see the utility in such a small screen, but to each their own.

Right, the key phrase there is "back in the day". I had Android phones back in the day too and they sucked. This isn't 2010 any longer. My Note 20 Ultra is considerably better than my 11 Pro Max in pretty much every way. You should probably look at Android again, a lot has changed.
I've always been happy with Apple products since my first in 2009, nothing that Android has appeals me to break the system and change at all.

$100 price increase if you have got used to 6.1 inches and want to stay there.

Vile, greedy corp just keeps getting worse.

if you don’t own any stock, how can you defend this continued land grab as a consumer?
Buy Stock and Be Happy! or be like me get drunk and sleep on the sidewalk

So the 12 is all about 5G and the camera. 5G is effectively worthless now and they always make camera improvements. This is an iPhone 11s and that's being generous...
Yeah. But you knew that was gonna happen.
The iPhone 7 was really an iPhone 6SS, and the iPhone 8 was really a 6SSS.
The iPhone 11 was really more like an iPhone XSS.
So yeah, every year, the upgrades are going to feel smaller and smaller.

Except that Android still compresses every photo you share through any service.

Except Apple isnt anywhere close to the competition who has 120hz displays and far better cameras. Apple could have put those on the 12, but they are just trying to milk it for the 13 and still charge people insane amounts of money for a pathetic update. Im about Done with Apple and their greed.
What Android/s are you interested in? Android manufacturers tend to really go for max specs and cutting edge feature sets, but the end result isn’t always as polished and provide for a trouble-free experience as one could wish for.

My husband’s S20 Ultra camera is now working pretty well but he’s had to own it for several months worth of incremental software updates for it to be tolerable. I’ve had my share of frustrations with the in-display fingerprint scanner. It just does not work for me. And they have issued the latest Notes with the same FPS.

I like Pixel phones, but they are weak compared to the competition in terms of video recording specs and quality. And this year’s models are very basic in design and specs. There’s nothing wrong with going back to basics, especially in a year like this one, but be aware that there are Android fans as frustrated with this turn of events as you are with what Apple is doing.

I don’t own a OnePlus, but I hear they’re nice phones. However their cameras are said to be lower in quality than Samsung cameras despite the exciting specs. So that’s why I don’t bother with them, since I’ve been in Samsung’s upgrade path for a few years now.

My husband has owned one Huawei phone. It did have a very impressive camera performance that was ahead of all the rest of our American and Korean phones at the time. Unfortunately, they’re not available in the US anymore. If you have access to them wherever you are, go for it. But read up on possible security concerns and lack of Play Store access with some Chinese phones like Huawei.

There are of course other Android phones. I’ve heard mixed opinions on LG.

You will also be losing out on options for cases and accessories that you may be used to having with Apple. Samsung is a brand well supported in the US but LG and Google have far less third party accessory support.

But by all means, if you’re dissatisfied with Apple, do give Android a try. I’ve enjoyed my time experimenting with Android phones and will continue to own them for years to come. I just think people need to make an informed decision about them. It’s easy to declare frustration and say you’re leaving. I have done so myself so I’m not criticizing you for thinking and saying exactly the sort of things I’ve said myself. Just...temper your expectations or you will likely be frustrated making a switch.

Edit: wait I just saw your comment that you already have a Note 20 Ultra? So why are you here blowing a gasket about iPhones? If you think you already have the ultimate experience go out and enjoy it for gods sake.

So 2 extra IUP payments now and then extra payments next year if they launch in September? Price you pay if you want to play I guess...
This....so this! I am hoping that Apple comes up with some sort of work around, but it is doubtful.

In the past when I got the phone a bit late as I wasn't quick on the pre-order, and got charged for the next month, they've refunded me a months payment. I didn't even have to ask.
Not saying they'll do that this year.

Those 120hz displays kill battery life. Apple will introduce them once they can solve that. It's rumored the displays this year are indeed 120hz capable but won't be enabled. So it's not about greed as they're there.

Excuse me, what?

It says that the deal can expire at any time. My prediction is that its going to expire right before the event. I really just want a bigger phone and a better camera.
I would go with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this years iPhones might be more trouble than they are worth.

Anyone also thinking about the cost increase for the plan? I realize this is not just an Apple issue...but any 5G phone I would imagine will come with the need to move to a plan that supports 5G, so add another ten dollars a month on top of whatever the cost will be for the model you choose. For myself, I do not live in an area that will even have 5G for probably about another 2 years...so $240 bucks on top of the cost of the actual phone?

The dates quoted in this article are incorrect.
The source says:

iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12
Preorder 10/16 and 17. Launch 10/23 and 24

iPhone 12 Pro and pro max
Preorder 11/6 and 7. Launch 11/12 and 13

See the updated tweet that lines up with the article... its a bummer for sure though (that the mini is coming later)

Well that doesn't actually say anything. How does it compare to running 60hz?
According to GSM arena the 120hz web browsing is 2 hours 5 minutes less on the 120hz display vs 60hz. And 3 hours 39 minutes less for video playback. On the S20+ comparison I found.
120hz at 1080 resolution, 60hz at 1440 resolution.

Up to you to decide if that's a sizeable difference or not that affects your daily use.

No USB-C = No buy
I hope Apple pays someone to read this forum. With the loss your business from the lack of a USB-C port added to the three people who refuse to buy anything without a 120Hz display, their bottom line stands to take a whopping 0.0000000000000001% hit.

Tim will have his head on the chopping block before you can say, “The most valuable company in the world.” 🤣

When I first read the rumor that the iPhone 12 Mini would be $649 for 128GB I thought that would be an instant buy but if this rumor is true, ($699 for 64GB) I think I will hold off and see if a lower cost unit rumored to be coming in Spring 2021 pans out.
