While I wouldn't want a 1TB device, it's because I don't see any need for it.

What data/files would you store on a phone that would take up that much room?

Three CDs ripped in Apple lossless (ALAC) take approximately 1GB of space. Two minutes of 4K/60FPS video takes approximately 1.5GB. An HD movie downloaded from the iTunes store takes approximately 4GB.

If you are an avid consumer/producer/editor of media and can't always connect to WiFi/cellular for cloud access, it's very easy to fill huge chunks of drive space.

I was considering getting a new iPhone but I need a 128GB unit. I have the 7Plus currently. If these details and prices are accurate (and yet they are not thorough), I would really need to buy the 12Pro in order to gain any worthwhile features (I only upgrade every 3+ years). Therefore it's a $1000 phone which I think is nuts considering my phone is 4 years (and generations) old and I frankly don't see the camera enhancements worth $1000. I always keep my old iPhones so it's not like I'm going to trade it in and get a measly $100 for the trade-in.

I hope the pricing is wrong and I can find a great iPhone 12 model for $700 with 128GB that is worth me dumping my 7Plus.
For me, the difference between a 7 Plus and the more recent models meant gaining stereo audio for videos and, as of the 11 Pro, significantly improved indoor photos in low light. Which means more photos of children and pets turning out well. Outdoor photos in strong light are improved as well, and you now also have a new wider field of view available. I also appreciated fewer blown out highlights and the gain of better fine detail previously only available to me on Google Pixel cameras.

Though I do think Apple did finally effectively deal with the problem of blown highlights on the iPhone 8 models. Everything since then has been about refinement rather than fixing a significant problem like blown out highlights and inaccurate color reproduction that were on models before iPhone 8.

As a phone, my 11Pro and even my iPhone SE 2020 have given me noticeably improved call quality. The new iPhone 12’s will feature Qualcomm modems (which your current phone may also have) and as long as Apple hasn’t botched antenna design and implementation, connectivity and call quality should be improved over models using the Intel modems. I notice my Androids using Qualcomm models give me much better calls out in my area that suffers from poor signal strength.

Since you’re coming from a 7 Plus, you’re probably going to enjoy any one of the 12’s that fit your budget.

If you do upgrade this year, I hope you enjoy your new iPhone and that it serves you well for as long as you wish to keep it.

I think smart phones, including iPhones have reached tech peak, just like bicycles did long ago.
Who buys a new $1000 bicycle every year?
Don't often say opinions are wrong, but this one is. The tech cycle for bicycles is way slower than iphones and is mostly in materials and manufacturing.

Instead of bicycles, however, substitute cars. The tech in cars hasn't peaked and people buy a new car every year. Or substitute medicine...has the tech in medicine peaked? So the tech in phones hasn't peaked either and won't for a long while to come.

I dunno why but this year's iPhone lineup just feels real underwhelming. Sure it has the incremental upgrades people have come to expect, but there is nothing here that seems innovative or new.

Probably upgrading my XS next year and I find myself way more interested in what Samsung is doing lately.
This is said every year and apple with hundreds of millions of customers, will all have different opinions.

Looking for advice on what to do, I currently have a paid off XR through Xfinity mobile. ATT is offering a deal right now where if you port a line in and trade in a phone, I could get the iPhone 11 pro Max for pretty much free. With these specs that are leaked, I’m not seeing anything crazy that is going to change between the pro max 11 and the 12 besides price. What do you guys recommend I do? Should I upgrade to the 11 pro max for pretty much free or go with the 12?

I have the 11 Pro Max. It is a very good device overall. If you can get it for "free" perhaps go for it. However, the 12 will be better.

They'd better not limit those camera improvements to the Max, as 1) that's some serious BS seeing how there's no reason the smaller Pro couldn't get them as well, 2) the Max doesn't need the help to push sales, as it's clear many people prefer the larger screen and 3) for the rest of us the thing is too GD big for daily use, and as someone who upgraded from the X to the 11 Pro last year solely because of the improved cameras, that feature set matters to me above many others.

Come on, Apple, don't screw me simply because I don't have a purse or cargo pants pockets to stash a phablet comfortably when I'm not using it.

Is there a deadline for that deal? If not, see what Apple presents on the 13th then make your final decision. I am still on a X and have not seen much enough to drive me to upgrade. 2023 is looking like my year.

It says that the deal can expire at any time. My prediction is that its going to expire right before the event. I really just want a bigger phone and a better camera.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is a hardened ceramic shield glass screen?
I’m going guess that the screen will be coated in a clear ceramic coating that will offer better scratch protection.
This would be in place of the oleophobic coating

Several sites have made it clear the Max will have camera features the other models will not. I want to know If the Max has a larger sensor. The rest is really meaningless.

"The benefit of 7P lenses (7 optical elements) is that it improves image quality by increasing the light transmission rate"
Think you are misunderstanding what light transmission rate is :) and it's nothing about letting more light to the sensor and probably misleading in the reference you posted

More elements generally means greater correction for distortion, chromatic aberration etc

But more elements is no given measure of lens quality as many other factors come in to play, only physical testing will tell

Honestly I was very interested in the 12 Mini to go with a smaller device for the first time in a while(Currently have the XR and have had the 6,7 and 8 Plus as well) but I would rather not wait until November if I can help it. So that kind of leaves me with the 12 or the 12 Pro. I would need 128GB of storage so the price difference is going to be minimal enough that I think I will have to see the spec differences once Apple announces the phones before making a final decision.

Except Apple isnt anywhere close to the competition who has 120hz displays and far better cameras. Apple could have put those on the 12, but they are just trying to milk it for the 13 and still charge people insane amounts of money for a pathetic update. Im about Done with Apple and their greed.
