I really looked forward to 12 for its iPad Pro-like design. However, lack of 120Hz is disappointing. I may skip it after all.

120Hz is an absolute must for OSD (obsessive scrolling disorder). Your eyes will thank you.

100% agree. I would say a large percentage of users spend more time scrolling (through email, Instagram/social media, internet, news) than doing really anything else on their phone. This would be the biggest change to a phone experience than something like 5G which is only in a handful of areas.

The 11 Pro — as well as its Max-sized counterpart — currently offer 4x zoom. The focal length for the zoom lens is 52mm and that will remain the same on the 6.1” 12 Pro.

The 12 Pro Max will be the only to get a slightly better camera, with 47% larger image sensor and a 5x zoom due to the telephoto focal length increasing from 52mm to 65mm (in 35mm equivalent).
I don't understand this. If I'm not wrong iPhone 11 Pro has 2x optical zoom, it offers 4x zoom only if you consider the ultra-wide lens too. Is the same for iPhone 12 Pro or is telephoto lens supposed to offer actual 4x optical zoom?

After some years I'm finally coming back to iPhone and I've just found a brand new iPhone 11 Pro 256GB at 950/1015€. I don't like Pro Max version because it's too big and if the zoom is the same, I don't see any real difference concerning cameras, except f1.6 and LiDAR: the only noticeable changes would be the new design, 6GB of RAM and A14.
iPhone 12 Pro will be probably sold here at 1359€ + the cost of the power adapter. I think it's not worth the trouble, it's not worth the hassle... what would you do if you were me?

I had high hopes for the mini... but waiting one more month? Screw that....
Yea I feel the same about Pro vs Pro Max. Was going to wait to see how much bigger Max was, but I don't care about extra camera stuff, and saving $100 and waiting less seems better to me now

The question I have is will carriers let us put these on non-5G plans? I don’t care about 5G at risk point and I’m sure it will have a price increase.
Yes especially if your carrier has nothing in your area yet. Will they only make you go 5G if you finally have coverage?

I'm sad because my carrier, Verizon, seems to be only supporting mmWave 5G.

So no 5G for me... unless I hang out on sidewalks in major cities... :p
They are doing both but coverage seems very skimpy right now. Using mmwave speeds for advertising.

Think you are misunderstanding what light transmission rate is :) and it's nothing about letting more light to the sensor and probably misleading in the reference you posted

More elements generally means greater correction for distortion, chromatic aberration etc

But more elements is no given measure of lens quality as many other factors come in to play, only physical testing will tell

when light transmission is increased, it literally means more light is hitting the sensor compared to setups with less light transmission. i am understanding light transmission accurately.

however if you saying the article is wrong that more elements DO NOT mean increased light transmission rate then alright. that’ll knock down tomsguide’s accuracy from my perspective

Everyone can use Face ID. The fact that it fails during the temporary mask era would make this a very opportune time to introduce Touch ID in the side button from a marketing perspective.

But it serves a much larger purpose as for 2-factor authentication. Currently Face ID devices are hampered by the god awful "Double Click The Side Button To Confirm" experience. That is easily improved with Touch ID.

Masks won’t be temporary because people keep acting like they are a burden they shouldn’t have to deal with.If everyone would wear a mask correctly, and handle it correctly (don’t touch the outside of you mask or wash you hands after doing so) than maybe this will be temporary.

That said, there are a lot of people (healthcare, construction, landscaping, etc.) who were wearing a mask and will continue to do so. For those people Face ID isnt just useless it ruins the device experience. Add in the fact that people who change between glasses (a more common thing now that you can buy a pair for $30) often have inconsistent results with Face ID.

Meanwhile most people live someplace where they never wear gloves. If you look at people who do wear gloves it’s generally seasonal. Plus, face masks are basically free now but gloves are not.

Honestly I think it should have both face ID and touch ID. Works for everyone. Doesn't have to be one or the other.

Completely agree - both.

On a phone I had with facial recognition, it worked OK. But I had to pick up the phone and point it towards my face. With touch ID, I can reach my hand out and unlock it.

But some of us have disorders which mean that touch ID sometimes just doesn't register. Mostly, it is great. But there are times, sometimes hours, when it just doesn't want to work. Back to typing numbers in...

Yes, there are far better camera phones out there. Phones with larger sensors, way more megapixels and far better zoom capabilities. Apple has now fallen way behind in camera tech. Huweai, Xiaomi and even Oppo put them to shame.

You're right, as borne out by these detailed reviews: https://www.dxomark.com/category/smartphone-reviews/page/2/

Let's hope Apple spring some camera surprises next week. Larger sensors and higher quality 7-element lenses are rumoured, augmented by processing power to improve HDR and low light results. This could signicantly close the gap with Apple's Chinese rivals.

Coupled with 5G speed these new phones could be quite a significant upgrade . . . .

Don't use dxo it's pure trash these days and isn't a sign of a top camera.. Those ranked at the top aren't better than the note ultra for one

I expect pro max to be the stand out camera for a smart phone. Even the 11 Pro max is very close to this years phones camera wise
