It’s a joke that Apple refuses to give their customers a 1TB option. They have 1TB microSD cards for under $300 now. They won’t do it because they are scared. If the iPad in 2018 could handle 1TB, then it’s an insult to our intelligence that an iPhone in 2021 cannot handle 1TB.... especially since the A14 exceeds the A12X/Z in Metal. The 6GB RAM Pro models need to have 1TB option, there is zero excuse other than pure greed from Cupertino...

The demand would be too damn low.

I honestly just don’t see the point of upgrading from my iPhone X. I’m not a photographer and only take utilitarian photos, so I don’t even take advantage of the single functional difference between the phones.

The iPhone X still has a great screen, is plenty fast, and has all the same features other than the cameras. Am I missing something? Is it just me, or has there been practically zero innovation in phones for the last 3-4 years or so, not just limited to Apple?

I may just save my money. I’m usually a fan of upgrading my phones, but the last couple years haven’t really been compelling.

That’s the sign of a maturing market.
And sadly, most of the fields that Apple is in are relatively mature. Over the next years, upgrades to their existing lines are going to seem smaller and smaller and smaller.
Hell, it happened to the Mac in the mid 2000s. Pretty much since 2008 or so, it’s just been thinner, lighter, faster.
The iPod reached maturity relatively quickly. By the fourth GEN, people knew what it was, and they knew what they expected of it. After that, it was just diversification, and increasing storage and efficiency.
The iPad came out in 2010, and by 2013, it was relatively set in its ways. Again, just diversification and efficiency.
The Apple Watch is there now, where every year it feels like the upgrades get smaller and smaller.

How boring. Seriously average. The biggest company ever known and this is as good as it gets?

What happened to the iPhone?

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure it'll be a good phone, but there isn't much to really want to make you upgrade.
New form factor? Fine.
Larger size option? Good.
Better cameras? Good. But there is a better camera every year!
5G? World's not ready.

I was really hoping for No notch or a pinhole or something much smaller than we have now and Touch ID built into the on off button. Promotion or whatever it's called would be nice but not a deal breaker for me personally. But this will be the 4th iteration of the same sized Notch. It's lazy.

November? If it comes to it I would wait until January on my not-bad 2017 SE with flaky battery to get that 5.4. These are not tough times for me.

People are suffering, I'm not, in my permanent government position. A good roast chicken kind of fast food restaurant nearby on a nationwide franchise just went out of business. Out of business, permanently. The great cafe across the street did the same.

It's telling that the 6.1 Pro is $999 despite the price pressure of the 5G hardware. That's quite a concession, Apple.

Again, the iPhone has been a mature product for at least the last eight years. The upgrades are going to seem smaller and smaller and smaller, until they’re basically just spec bumps like the Mac gets. don’t be surprised if by 2026 or 2027, they stop giving every iPhone a number, and just say that it’s got a new processor.

Yikes. So the UK pricing is likely to be £729 for the 5.4 and £829 for the 6.1 non-Pro phones. That's for 64Gb, a 60Hz display and a big notch. Looks like I'll be staying with the 2020 SE for now.

Well the new ipad is now £329/$329, the ipad air 4 is £579/$599 and the Apple watch SE at £269/$279 so it appears Apple have slightly lowered UK pricing to how it was in 2015, so hopefully the iphone 12 mini will be £699.

Tech like under display camera is damn hard and is simply not ready yet.

so while notch isn’t great until that tech is ready apple will keep it as it is.

Nah, I'm holding onto my 11 Pro. The only thing that would have really tempted me to upgrade is a 120Hz screen. Maybe next year.

I disagree. We aren't just going to get processor updates in phones in 6 years time.

There are several things Apple could do, but they have become so iterative under this CEO.

Apple needs to have pressure put on them. Sitting back and saying there is nothing that can be done only allows them to continue down this snail path.

If android don’t have this tech yet who will try this tech out first then you know it’s tough to do. It really is not easy to get right.

Even the S21 won;’t have it in 2021....fold 3 will but it will have less orders so they will test it on there first and appear on main phones by 2022.

I don't expect it, but I expect them to at least try. Keeping the same notch for 4 iterations in a row? That is seriously weak. For the Biggest company in the history of all known life in the every expanding universe to have the same annoying notch for 4 phones in a row... It's unacceptable!

But I'll quite possibly get one... damn me! But only for the larger size...

While I want to believe this, I have a few things that I don’t think add up.
First of all, I think the likelihood of MMWave Being US only is completely ridiculous. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the exact opposite, where MMWave is only available for the international models, where as the US models only have sub 6G. My reasoning is, other countries outside the US have much wider MMWave deployment. In the US, the only carrier that has sort of focused on MMWave is Verizon, and even then, it’s barely anywhere here. T-Mobile and AT&T don’t have any MMWave from my understanding, but I could be wrong about this. Either way, the point is that other countries have it a lot more than we do.
The second thing I have doubts about is these prices.
A 64GB iPhone 12 for $799, which would make a 128 GB $849. To me, these prices seem way too close to the pro models. You could get a 128GB 12 for $849, or $37.38 for 24 months.
Or, a 128GB 12Pro for only an extra $150, or an extra $6.14 a month. These seem way too close together, and not at all going off the last several iPhone launches.
Since the majority of people nowadays buy their phones on the monthly installment plans, Apple has usually priced their phones about $10 a month difference, give or take a dollar or two. The XR was $31 a month, vs the XS $41 a month. That’s a big enough difference to make customers want to opt for the lower model.
With the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, that gap got even wider.
My prediction for the pricing is that either Jon Prosser is correct, and the pricing for the 12 Mini and 12 are actually $649 and $749.
That would make the 128 GB iPhone 12 $799, a full $200 difference between it and the $999 128 GB Pro. Or, the 12Pro Will be getting a price increase to $1049 and $1149.
I don’t know, but Apple has always been psychological with their pricing. I remember back in the Day of them insisting that the magical price point for products was $199. They made sure that the iPhone, iPod, and the cheapest Apple Watch started at that magical $199 Price point. But lately their pricing has been confusing.
For example, they are clearly trying to get rid of all 32 bit products. So why on earth would they still continue to sell the Apple Watch Series 3, even though they just introduced the SE that is supposed to be its replacement.
Also, why are they still selling the iPhone XR, the iPod Touch, and the Apple TV HD.
Oh, and another thing I just noticed about this rumor, why is the colors for the lower end models going from six options down to five? And where is the orange that was rumored, and is in the invitation.
I like your thinking. I also don't believe the leak 100%.

the orange might be what the leaker is calling "gold"

Yeah, possible. I was just going off the current pricing for the 11 ($699/£729). But I'm looking at the 6.1" (the 5.4" is just too small for me with a notch as well) and minimum 128Gb storage. That looks like it's going to be pushing £850-900 and for such an iterative update I don't think it's worth it.

The Galaxy S20 FE is looking like a great deal right now, especially with all the trade-in values Samsung offer.
