How so? By saying that people have bought MacBook Pros recently rather than wait indefinitely for a processor upgrade? Believe it or not, some computer users don't need to be on the leading-edge. And Apple (and its shareholders) are making a fortune off of them.

How is Apple screwing their customers? Customers always have the option of buying a C2D iMac, not buying a Mac at all, or waiting for price cuts or new releases. It's fallacious to suggest, even with just a single supplier of OSX, that computer buyers don't have plenty of alternatives.

1. You've made my first point - Apple is screwing the customer, by only offering yesterday's processor at today's prices! Every manufacturer, except Apple, sells C2D in top-of-the-line units, and offers CD at a discount. Maybe Apple's new sales slogan could be: "Pay our inflated charge for yesterday's technology ... or piss off!"

2. "Plenty of alternatives?" Puh-lease! Knock-knock ..... what "alternative," in a lappie, do we have? Oh, that's right - none! Old-school Core-Duo, whether in MacBooks or MacBook "Pros." Your solution: "by a C2D iMac or nothing at all?" Riiiiiight! Put a handle on the iMac and pull it around on wheels?

Not meaning to vent on you, but Apple simply has no excuse to be left behind like this. They're using the same parts as every other PC maker - same choices at the same prices. If they're going to offer only "last generation" choices, then they should sell them at discount prices. They'd still be "making a fortune on them."

for the love of Apple :p this is starting to get longer and longer and my patience is getting tested each time. how i wish that the next morning I woke up, the first thing that shows up on www.apple.com will be a newly updated MBP (screw the MB, I don't care about it :D). Thank God my 5-year-old-computer still manage to stay as alive as it is currently.

I see that you have a point. A point that Apple should really folllow. That way, I'm sure it will capture at least some extra 10% of THAT PC market. As people would have realised, price does really matter. Take a look at all of those TV ads, none of them goes by the slogan "Mac is cheaper", they dare not mention "Mac is more expensive, but more awesome", nobody is daring enough to boast about their higher price while promoting greater spec, neither is Apple

Next Tuesday...

looks like Apple screwed themselves by pushing the 1" form factor, as if it hadnt screwed them in the 15" MBP already. now all the fan boys will be whining when the new MBP comes out and its thicker than the last one. I won't care as long as it has a better GPU and supports 64bit. 160 gig hd would be nice too. Oh yea and no DL DVD burning in 15" was a deal breaker on the first version.

What I want to know is what the hell has apple been doing for the last 9 months?

Oh thats right adding another drive bay to the PowerMac and putting an iMac in a bigger case. Talk about a company walking the bleeding edge of technology.

Oh noes! Dell et al. are too stupid to install an extra drive bay and use a larger case!

Why don't we all just post next week's comments now?

I can predict we'll see some people asking when the next likely date is, someone saying that it will definately be tuesday, someone else saying that they heard from a bloke they know that it was going to be tuesday, then a whole load of people asking if it's 9am in Cupertino yet, and finaly someone saying "so ... next tuesday then?".

No you got it wrong.. then someone will say he say an ice cream truck met with an accident outside Apple HQ on Monday, so another poster will hypothesize that it will be the next day on Wednesday..

so whens the next date?

It is NOT going to be updated in MWSF because Apple do not have enough stock of Macbooks and Macbook Pros to last over the holiday season.

Predictions are Apple will sell around 1 millions notebooks over the holiday season... How can they without the stock?

They will be here, i think MBPs by end of oct then MBs by middle of Nov.

i cant wait any longer!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I think im gonna have to buy an iMac instead although i have absolutely no use for it and i really just need a MBP. Anyone care to help me out? There is one issue preventing me from transitioning to a mac - its the signature in my profile

Think different!

They can sell empty cardboard boxes as a raincheck

I think we should all come to terms with the fact that the C2D Macbook Pro will be released in January along with Leopard. If they made us wait till the middle of October, then they don't mind having us wait 2 1/2 more months.

What would be even more lame will be that after that huge wait we get no magnetic latches and hard drive panels... no pre-N wireless cards too, it'd just be a processor swap.

Then people will go, "Oh, SR is coming out soon! SR MBPs next Tuesday"

The website times and the emailed times dont seem to match for building and shipping orders just now?

A friend ordered a MBP yesterday with a few BTO options and the site said 3 days to build. He then got an email stating 17th for shipping, and the 25th for delivery.

I know apple like to cover their asses when it comes to shipping but i have ordered may BTOs from them over the years and this wait seems off. For the website to say 3 days to build a custom order but email a quote of 6-7 days to build and a delivery estimate of 25th October, is that not a little strange.

Any opinions?

Hello! It's my first post here, but i've been following the new MacBook/Pro discussion for a while now.

My roommate ordered a BTO MacBook 5 weeks ago at an onlinestore, he talked to them yesterday on the phone to ask why it takes so long...
They told him they had to cancel his order because Apple is not shipping any laptops at this moment because the new MacBooks and MacBookPros will be out the 24th of Oktober.

thought it might interest some around here. :)

but as i have said it is showing apple does not have much notebook stock to last over the holiday season

Maybe Apple Europe is COMPLETELY sold out?

Funny thing is we still have heaps of them in Australia
