Again, don't count on a macbookpro upgrade until NEXT YEAR.

Period.

Yet you're interested in checking on what's going on in here?

I say before holidays.
There needs to be a new revision, why would they make their new manufactuer (Foxconn) produce a laptop they know has problems? It's a perfect time to fix some issues...and drop in the lastest chip while their at it! :D

Amazing that this thread is still going. Seriously, who cares about the MBP delay if the delay possibly prevents all the MBP problems that plagued this most recent version? I'm happy with having computers that work right the first time and NOT have to send them back to Apple at least once for repairs.

As much as I want a C2D, I don't want it rushed at the expense of quality control.

I fianlly gave in an purchased my MacBook on Saturday - no more waiting for me (a new apple user, switching from MS). Love it already.

Of course, that must mean that tomorrow will see the new updated MacBooks!

Seems Like Early C2D iMac Exacerbated Feelings Of MB MBP "Delay"

This is my feeling as well. I think the feeling of this so-called "delay" was exacerbated by the surprisingly early C2D iMac release. :(

At least we're not the only ones on the slow boat. HP only taking pre-orders for C2D but they aren't shipping yet.

Not a plug for anyone, but the HP/Compaq laptops are available at CDW - at least the ones with the T7200.

From AppleInsider:
"...a source with ties to Hewlett-Packard said earlier this week that the PC maker has requested that its third-party resellers pack up their notebook demo units and ship them back to the company ahead of the company's own Core 2 Duo-based notebook launch."

If I order from B&H today will I be able to cancel the order in the morning if the home page gets CD2 macbooks? Anyone with experience with that?

Buying From Third Party Could Be Much More Complicated Return-Cancelation Process

Buying one from a third party could complicate any return process a lot. Why not just wait for the C2D announcement and order from Apple?

Yeah, I prefer buying from Apple too...though I have considered third party just to save the money on sales tax.

It just seems to me (and we're all guessing here) that they must be doing some revisions on the design. The Intel iMac was introduced at the same time the MBP was released. So the upgrade to merom could have easily happened at the same time. I just can't believe the delay between the two upgrades will only result in a C2D update only. (or so I tell myself)

MUCH CHEAPER. NO TAX (upfront). Reliable seller.

I can't wait until next Tuesday, and especially not the following Tuesday!

Unlike a lot of you guys, I have NO lap top, and after using a 17" 1 GIG Powerbook for six months I have been suffering desperately in its abscence. (My boss took it way and gave it to a friend.) On the 27th I start ten days with the family and I can't go home without a laptop.

So there its is. All this talk about MWSF makes me feel ill and not having a laptop has really and truly made me depressed. I can't go another week with no promise of relief in sight.

Sigh.

I'm still a little unsure of what I will do. Even with Apple's EDU price tag I could still save $160.00 at B&H... but will it really be worth it? Apple will most likely be able to start shipping units well before third party distributors. As well as the fact that returns would be easier straight from the source.

It looks to me that returns would be nonexistent through B&H. They would save you in tax and shipping is free (as is Apple's) but they state their return policy as:

No returns on:

* Original manufacturer computers, computer products, software once opened.

* Custom-built computers & non-linear systems (and parts installed) once opened.

So it looks like you'd have to be pretty sure before you pressed the "submit" button. (Or be willing to turn around and sell it.)

My hope is to hold my new 15" Merom Macbook Pro in my hand lately at 8. december.
I've got a Panasonic HVX200 with Firestore FS100 for two party-days and I need a firewire notebook for the video data.

Eeeewww... You use the FS100 with your HVX? Yuck. :p

Seriously, how does it work? I've read nothing but complaints about it on most of the forums and I've stayed away. But waiting for the CinePorter is pointless - the camera will be obsolete by the time those guys release their product. I just had to suck it up and I know own 5 8GB cards and 2 4GB cards. :D

what kind of outrageous price for a bto ram configuration of 4gb (2x2gb sticks) of ram in the new macbook pro that we'll se sometime soon? Perhaps add $1600 or less. Not like i'm gonna go ahead and buy apple ram though. I'll go with crucial or some other company.

I'm guessing it will be about $960 given the current pricing and 2GB modules for the iMacs - same RAM.

OTOH, 2GB modules from OCZ, G.Skill, Patriot, Corsair, etc... is a little scarce, but runs just a bit under $500 for 2x2GB.

left field thought... what do you think are the chances of a 17" macbook?

Not good at all.

i know it is highly unlikely but.... who would have guessed the 24" imac?

The 24" iMac was a no-brainer, long overdue. I'd expect the 30" iMac sometime within the next year too. I also would expect that if iTV takes off, we'll have the integrated models at some point -- 32 to 46" LCD TVs with iTV built in, maybe even a 50" plasma model at some point. Just makes sense....
