Hey, listen, I can't reveal my sources on this but they're inside the company at the highest levels. This is all very hush-hush.

Supposedly on Tuesday 10/24 Apple has this big laptop announcement scheduled. All new MBP form factor, Merom chipset, 802.11pre-n, Blue-Ray optical drive. $1599 EDU. And using the wireless Apple controller, you'll be able to play PS3 games on either your LCD or on a high-dev TV, thanks to a built-in HDMI connector - yes, Apple and Sony are teaming up.

Oh, and for $100 more you can have yours personally delivered by Woz himself, who'll come to your house on his Segway! Please have some cookies (vegetarian ingredients only) on hand. I hear oatmeal raisin is his favorite.
Interesting if true, but color me skeptical.

Why would Sony do this? They'd be effectively cannibalizing sales of their soon-to-be flagship product, the PS3. Additionally, I don't see Apple making any bets on BluRay versus HD-DVD, yet. Otherwise, IMO, they would have included one or the other in the brand new MacPro.

$1599 EDU
$200 cheaper than the current Education discount on the low end MBP? Major red flag!

I just purchased a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160GB Hard Drive for my new 15" MBP for when they are released. Hopefully the "new" MBP will provide us the feature to swap hard drives. If not, I'll go ahead and order one of these:

Nice, but expensive!

Not knowing when the revamped MBP's will arrive, I sure wouldn't buy any replacement parts yet, though! If, worst case scenario, no updates until MWSF, your hard drive will probably be both: a) dropped in price, and b) replaced by a larger capacity drive (e.g. rumored 200GB 2.5" drives)

I'm hoping, with you, that Apple joins every other manufacturer in making MBP hard drive replacement user-friendly, as they did with the MB.

This thread needs some humor now and then!

Awww... that ain't right!

You had me interested until the personal delivery. Nice touch though. lol

Oh well, something to break up the monotony I suppose.

I would definitely opt for the personalized delivery. I would also pay an extra $200 if the segway-riding Woz had Steve Jobs riding on his back, eating a big sloppy sandwich and dripping it all over my new MMBP.

There is alot of specualtion that the iPodAV will be out on tuesday. If this is true we probably won't see a new MBP for a while since Apple seems to like to spread everything out.

I wouldn't expect a true video iPod until MWSF...I feel they're going to have plenty of consumer products to show there, it's going to be really crazy.

DONT EXPECT ANnIVERSARY SELEBRATION

I thought the speculation was perhaps the 24th b/c the iPod 5th anniversary is October 23. In any case, it sure would be nice if we (as in Apple) could focus our attention on something *besides* iTunes, iPod, and iMovie for a while.

Steve Jobs don't like anniversaries, remember he skiped the 20th year anniversary of the Mac... he is not very nostalgic.

Unfortunately, there will be a new chip called ChocolateChip 2 Duo that will be announced possibly during Mother's Cookies World San Francisco in 2007. :D

Availability of the 15" MBP's on the UK site is now up to 3 days....not that I am clutching at straws or anything here!

Same with Canada site, Canada edu site, and Canada ADC site.... the American site is at 24 hours, though.

The iMac was at 24h the day before it was introduced, so I don't know if this is really an indication of anything other than low stock :(

Someone said that they didn't think we would get Blu-Ray because Apple hadn't made up thir mind about blu-ray vs. HD-DVD, well this article says that Apple sits on the board of directors for Blu-Ray.

http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/19/blu-ray-vs-hd-dvd-state-of-the-s-union-s-division/

That'd be sweet, if we got Blu-Ray in the MMBP's

Not possible, those drives currently cost about $1000 for the desktop versions, they better make that option BTO if they are even going to offer the $2000 (after Apple tax) upgrade option. I sure as hell am not going to support anything that enriches Sony.

I doubt we'll see Blu-Ray in an MBP until next year.

Apple has declared for Blu-Ray and I'm guessing we'll see a BD-50 R/W drive in the Mac Pro as soon as Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic or whoever finally releases one that works 100%. The current crop of BluRay writers are complete *****. Avid just released their new version of Studio Toolkit for the PC which has very minimal BluRay support. And that's about it so far for software out there... I predict we'll see a Blu-Ray option for the Mac Pro and Blu-Ray update to DVDSP/FCS at MWSF.

While Apple does hold a seat on the Blu-Ray Board, a couple of factors lead me to think that there's more to Apple's decision on whether to incorporate the drives into its hardware.

First, I find it hard to see Apple acceding to the Sony-led standard before Sony makes its film library available for sale on iTunes.

Lastly, iTV (so far as I could tell) has no disk drive yet is expected to deliver near-HD quality video to TV. It's plausible that Apple sees a disc-less future which would lessen their need to move early in the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray battle. It's important to remind ourselves that at one point Betamax was viewed by many as the superior technical choice and look what happened.

Not to mention that Blu-Ray drives are really expensive right now, so customers may be reluctant to pay up for a standard that isn't guaranteed to "win."

regents street store

Checking out stock levels here this weekend, they said they have plenty of laptops in stock (MBP, did not ask about MP)

they also said that they had the open box items in stock, and they did not think they would run out before the middle of this week (the open boxes are retail price -10%)

I am currently tempted myself, but as with all I think I should wait until the end of October, I dont think they will release in November, unless its released and not available in the shop until november / december.

Then if nothing comes I can order a refurb or just pop into the shop (my local apple shop) and get one off the shelf.

Ahaha, love it;

Nestle Toll House is seeking an injuction against Intel for violating its patents on the ChocolateChip...

Frustrated Mother's Cookies fanboys, impatient with the delay in the release the ChocolateChip 2 Duo SnackBook Pro, threaten to buy the cheaper and immediately available Girl Scout Inspiron and Chips Ahoy Vaio CC2D models...

Nope. Apple video applications get their refreshes at opening day of the NAB expo in Las Vegas. In 2007 that's Monday April 16 or about 3 months after MacWorld San Francisco.

For now, yes...

At some point in the future, when the 800MHz FSB update happens, they will probably switch from the 667MHz DDR2 to 800MHz DDR3. But that's probably a good 6 months away.

Thank you.

Well except that AV apparently did not read my prior posts, this information above is completely incorrect. I direct you to my prior post on this matter of 800Mhz mem: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/2943835/

DDR3 are not expected to be in wide use until late 2007/early 2008. Initially they will be expensive. Unless Apple decides to use a different chipset (non-Intel) to support the C2D's, you won't see any DDR2 800Mhz FSB usage in the the laptop line until maybe March when Crestline is speculated to be showing up in the marketplace. Read the linked articles in my posts, interesting stuff.

Not in stock anymore, and wont be?!

Just called today Johnlewis uk, Macs high street distributor. They said that they don’t have any MBPs in stock and it doesn’t look like they will have any upcomming. Whatever that means?!
