I'm serious, before when my G5 powermac power supply blew, I took it to the apple store around the corner from me, and when I picked up back up, they took me in the store room where they had it, and it had ALL the stock in there

Perhaps I take my old broken iPod around and then they take it into the back room and I follow and take a peek at the laptop stock, see what's going down :D

It has to be tomorrow. I am on a plane at 8:30am, and going to a city without an apple store, then back on a redeye the following night. I can't imagine a better time to release it.

According to calender... if by the 26th October there is no C2D... it will give me time to earn up for the new year's Macworld Expo (8-12 Jan 07) release of the student special 30% off for MBP 17" C2D 4GB Ram (up to 16) 250GB 10,000RPM Leopard pre-inst + ATI SLI + iPhone 60Gb + iTV = 2500€.

But by then I will have woken up for sure...

My C2D excitement has ceased, which is good. Now it'll just be a pleasant surprise instead of a weekly let down. My powerbook is still doin' its thing, so I'm ok. :)

At this point, I'm not sure which I need more. A new MBP, or a drink!

All kidding aside, I've read some interesting posts from the last day or so.

Right now, I'm wondering if in fact the announcement was set for Photokina but was pulled at the last minute. I don't know why, but looking back over the information from various sites and their usual credibility, there were a lot of sites that were really banking on it being the deal. Hindsight being 20/20, of course, but that leads to the question of why pull it last minute? The only thing that comes to my mind was either a last minute discovery of a problem, or that the current MBP supply hadn't dwindled down to their "target" stock level yet. That's just my guess, but in my mind doesn't seem out of line.

Even releasing at the Photokina event, 99.9% of the sales would have ended up on the new FY07 for them, at least most likely. After all they could have announced it as shipping next week, for example. It was close enough to the new FY for it really not to be too much of an issue, but who knows.

I too am wondering why there is a lack of "rumors" being posted on this at the moment? Could it be that after the Photokina debacle where everybody that had an "inside source" got hung out to dry, that they have just thrown in the towel in favor of saving their reputation? Then again, it could be something we aren't even aware of. Perhaps only a certain number of people knew about the announcement at Photokina, and that spurred an internal reminder in strict fashion of the internal NDA between Apple and their employee's? Right now, it seems that it's back to a guessing game again.

I'm not sure if I would consider it likely that they announce the Xserve and other updates at the same time though. Why steel the show from the Xserve, which already has its initial specs public, by throwing out the new MBP? As Multimedia mentioned earlier, the time of holding a special event just for product updates seems to have passed. If it were completely new, it might be another story.

Either way I'm still excited to see what they finally do release, and how they release it.

now in the uk,the ipod cashback offer finishes on october 7th.

my order for my 24"imac has been delayed, ordered 22nd sept, dispatched 26th sept and the delivery date states 7th october.

i would say next monday 9th or tuesday 10th for new mbp's.

i would suspect that the ipod offer is to try to reduce old stock mb's/mbp's.
im sending my sealed 24" imac straight back anyway,as soon as it arrives as ive changed my mind now lol. :p

Is there anything in the "fine print" that would specify the particular model(s) that the deal is available with?

Be it a stock number, or whatever?

"Buy a new MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac with SuperDrive, Mac Pro or Power Mac G5 from the Apple Store for Education."

thats what it states on the UK iPod offer page

I think the information provided for the Back-to-School special (in the Swiss store) is a little deceptive.

On the rebate form, no mention is made of the part numbers of qualifying iPods, only of the relevant storage capacities. On the FAQ, though, the part numbers are given.

Congrats On Your New 24" C2D iMac nodabs

I got tired of waiting for the MBP update and bought a 24" iMac this weekend. What a beautiful machine! It's my first mac and i'm glad to get started with the whole "switching" process now. When the MBPs ARE finally updated i'm sure i'll be picking one up. Whether or not i'll keep the iMac then is TBD.

Anyway, now that i have a new Mac i'm hoping that the updates are significant with a case redesign and upgraded components (besides the Merom chip)!! :D
Congrats on your 24" C2D iMac nodabs. Now you're the head of the C2D class. ;)

Tomorrow looks good. I'm not predicting anything though.

I cant imagine the relief people would feel when these updates are finally announced nor the dissapointment for those who caved in at the 11th hour.

Infact a party should be thrown.

I am sooo torn... a MB and iMac combination would be absolutely perfect if only the iMac display could be used with the notebooks... any ideas why they didn't put a video input on the iMacs?

No HD Access Bay - No Sale - No Joy - No Relief - No Fun

That will be on the "Mac C2D Laptops Released" thread.

However, release alone will not make some of us happy. Some of us refuse to buy one without an easy access HD bay like they put in the MacBook in May.

The Apple site could use an announcement. I'm tired of looking at the pirate, Johnny Depp, on their homepage right now.

I know you're right, but I think it's pretty sad that someone would refuse to buy just because they have to spend an extra 20min (or more if an non-technical person attempting) to do the swap.

I mean, sure it's a pain...and if I had to swap out MY hard drive every day I'd be pissed, but most people don't need to do that.

Some Professionals See The Need To Swap HDs Regularly

It's a professional feature they put in a consumer Mac. Historically this has led to the pro feature being added to the pro model in the next refresh. Some of us are thinking of a workflow that would include swapping out HDs daily among 2 or 3 different ones set up for different types of projects.

An empty 160GB HD can only hold about 11 hours of DV video on it before another one needs to be used instead.

Any way, based on historical evidence, I'm pretty sure it'll be in there. Will be in shock if it's not. All a twitter, I'm also hoping for a 1920 x 1200 WideUXGA BTO option on the 17" C2D MBP as well. Attached to a 23" Apple/24" Dell with the same res would be so cool.

So they can sell more monitords, duh! ;)

Actually, this (IMNSHO) is a total no-brainer type feature that should have been included on the 24" iMac. It could be a nice computer that could double as a secondary display (or even a primary display) for your notebook, Mac Pro, XServe, etc.. Would have been a nice feature on the 20" as well.

Oddly enough, I've brought this up once or twice in various forums and I've seen a few other people bring it up or comment on it as well. But it doesn't seem to be a highly requested feature.
