Question...

What's the longest you guys have ever seen the apple main page go without a serious update?

Im not talking about the little windows which were just redone to show aperature but the whole thing...its been more then 3 weeks now no? i dont think ive ever seen it go more then a month...so soon maybe?

what do you guys think?

I really want an updated Macbook, but if the MBP is updated I'm not sure what I'll do. Get the CD Macbook or the revised C2D MBP?

Better make that decision before Tuesday.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Perhaps they're just waiting for something so big and new (ie Merom MBP) to change the main page - I hope!

Hi, First time poster..... been lurking for about 2 weeks. I am also anxious about a new update!! Although I am thinking about getting an iMac, if they DO update the mb's with C2D, with a fair price I will invest myself (My parents $$, actually :D) there. Otherwise, I just like being my nerdy self and finding out the configs of new machines.. :p

I am starting to suspect it is just going to be a simple chip swap, so we'd have the same x1600, same braindead hard drive upgrade process, same overheating, same everything issues.

Look at the iMac, there was no redesign wasn't there?

Why would the MBP be any different? In Apple's point of view, that $50 x1600 GPU is still a cutting edge "awesome" chip. Either that or it is something to do with their supply process, if they have already assembled the large numbers of the mainboard with the x1600 why upgrade the line and deprecate it?

i noticed one of the subpages at apple.com was using hex value #c2dc2d as a background color, AND when i refreshed the main store page twice the first time took 1.83 seconds and the second time took 2.16 seconds...

this thread is really getting pathetic.........

was the third time 2.33???????!!!!! hahahahahaha not really. I would have to say the next thing we are going to be reporting is mirages of the updated MBPs on the front page....... Oh God, well my friends dad is a psychologist anyway...

c'mon Apple, hurry up already.

I've been waiting for Core 2 Duo Macbook pro's since August ...
And I REALLY need a new laptop. My IBM's starting to fall apart.

And I'm not ordering a MacBook Pro untill the Meroms get in there.

If they ever do ...

I've been waiting since June! Ha! Beat that!

Or moan about the moo being replaced by a meow or something, or that its so cool it makes your lap go blue :p

I can't wait to start complaining that my harddrive's too big and my GPU's too good. That'll be the day.

P.S. What do you mean, my bezel only has one isight in it?!

You don't really believe what you're writing, do you? If it was a simple chip swap, it could have been done at the same time as the iMac update.

And there's no way Apple will not include a feature in the MacBook (easy drive swapping) that doesn't find its way into the next rev of the MBP.

Finally, I suspect that the new MBPs will likely sport NVIDIA graphics, although I am not certain of this. Just call it a gut feeling...

Well, considering AMD now owns ATI, I wouldn't doubt that Intel would have a vested interest in maybe steering Apple away from ATI graphics. Just a thought.

Apparently Intel is in the process of buying nVidia too... Rumor has it... !

Well, if you reread my post it is more of a "what if" rather than a belief, at least I know if that were to really materialise (a chip swap) there'd be hell of a lot of screaming in this house, followed by a "such a long wait for this? Hell no! I will wait for SR!" :D

Thread?

This isn't a thread anymore, it's a support group, and thank the maker for it!

If that's the case, we'll all have to create a support group of some sort... if only to maintain(?) our mental health :)

edit: Just noticed ccroo's post. I agree, but I think that we'll be in worse shape if it is only a chip swap that materializes after all of this waiting...

It'd be "such a bummer"

Okay so the stores went down and nothing was apparently new when they were put back up....

...but i do remember the stores (or at least the US only) going down a few days before the launch of the new 24" iMac C2D, then coming back up with seemingly nothing to report. Around late evening as well.

Everyone seems to forget these things so quickly.

Perhaps they were testing linkage on the store?

Could be nothing, could be something. No predictions would be new ones but i am betting on an update very soon.

10/10 anyone! :)
I don't know if this actually happend, but if it did... isn't this kinda of big news?

That's it, I'm off....

Me too - I was busy during June, so thought I'd wait for Apple Leopard & Merom (sounds like a firm of lawyers!).

I've just caved in and just taken delivery of a refirb MBP 15 (2GHz). It's wonderful. I love the way that I could simply connect it to my old PB12 with a firewire cable and an hour later it's done; software, settings, the whole nine yards (eight and a half metres). Even Entorage copied completely. I'm well chuffed.

Just installing Parallels and setting it up for a busy life. That's great - I can run an XP VM for my .net developments, and Win98 for the c**p old internet exploder versions. Running two or three concurrent windows is a cinch.

So, the point.... I saved *well* over 30% on the retail price and was expecting some knackered scrached ex demo model. It arrived 24 hours after I ordered it; has a single 1GB ram stick (so I won't need to throw out the expensive apple 512s) and a decent hard disc. I'm certain that the processor speed of 2GHz will not be noticable against a 2.16GHz that I would have purchased.

I was really surprised to find it's absolutely pristine; the only thing missing is the cardboard box which is not the original shiny new one (it's got refirbished stickers all over it!).

So that's it. My misery is finally over - the nasty man has stopped. I'm out of here and will update next June (if necessary). And my old PB12 will find itself on eBay this weekend.

Have fun waiting - my money's on a minor upgrade just to the CPU over the next few days/weeks. I'm sure the delay is only due to Intel not being able to deliver Meroms in the quantities Apple need and with demand being so high, there's no hurry (you lot will just have to wait and Apple can be certain you won't be buying any competitor's products).

I reckon that Stevie will be launching a new model when he demos Leopard in January (if the lads from Seattle have delivered Nightmare 2.0^h^h^h10.0). I'll also put some money on there being a 13" MBPro with the new models (it's more money than a MB = profit!).

Lets face it, with Apple flogging more lappies now than they've ever done in the past, what's the point of them generating new demand with a new model? The back-to-school period's just over and Christmas is about to begin. January is a slack period so they'll be ready to take your money then:p

Toodle pip!

Yeah, I've often thought of that too, best way to combat depreciation of your Mac is to get it cheap to start with!

Guess I just want to have a portable machine that wouldn't be sold off and replaced a year down the road. I don't need that much computing power in a laptop, so waiting makes sense for me.

Could there be a launch on friday, considering that monday is a holiday here in the US, and Apple could be counting on big sales #'s on that date (especially now that there are actual stores in malls)?

It isn't a very big shopping holiday, not many people are off work. If they wanted to cash in on holiday sales they would have done it for labor day.

I've been waiting since May! HAH! Seriously... this is wreaking havoc on my schoolwork. All I can think about is, 'When am I gonna get my freaking MBP?'

Thankfully, my mind and body have given up on the updates anytime soon, so I no longer wake up in the morning and use all the energy I have to dash over to the computer to check MR and apple.com (consequently leaving me in a daze for the rest of the day when I see that everything is unfortunately unchanged :().
