I noticed on the terms and agreement of membership that term 5 reads:

5. No Warranty. You understand that all ADC Materials provided to you by Apple are supplied "AS IS" AND WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO THEIR PERFORMANCE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. To the extent that Apple makes available any products or product information, you understand that Apple is under no obligation to provide updates, enhancements, or corrections, or to notify you of any product changes that Apple may make, or to publicly announce or introduce the product(s) at any time in the future.

What does this mean???

It means that all the developer documentation, tools, software updates, beta software, etc... Is all provided without warranty. Any computer hardware you buy through the ADC store has warranty coverage just like a regular retail purchase. It's nothing unusua and this is typical practice with most any software related purchase of this nature (beta, documentation, development tools).

Save $519.48 On Loaded Mac Pro

Another good thing about becoming a member of the ADC is that you will get a free upgrade to Leopard a bit after it's released!
But in configuring a Mac Pro between educational and ADC Select discounts I only get $400 in savings including sales tax. So I don't get it. How can you save over $500?

$3247 +8% tax = $3506.76
$2841 +8% tax = $3068.28

+ $560 + tax for the 2.66GHz Dual Clovertown Option Vs. $700 List (I am projecting expected price for this option)

Save $438.48
+ Leopard $81 inc tax Educational Price for FREE

Save $519.48

Big Whoop

I guess if I go 2.66GHz Clovertown it will be another $140 saved so it's a little - about $160 saved total on a $4000 Mac Pro

Sorry for straying off topic here. I am killing time til Wednesday.

Here's a helpful link: http://developer.apple.com/membership/details.html

To answer your questions, as best I can:

I don't think that "technically" multimedia qualifies. It might in certain cases, but I don't know how stringent they are on scoping out developers.

Yes, you would get pre-release, as well as public releases of te OS, as well as the server version. I'd say OS X, but it would also include 11, 12, or whatever it is at the time.

There's a select level , and a premier level:

Select: http://developer.apple.com/membership/select.html

Premier: http://developer.apple.com/membership/premier.html

As an example, the current base MP starts at $2499 in the main store, the ADC store starts at $1999.
on the student adc will you get pre release OS and public releases of the OS free in the mail?

Okay, so this relates only to software. (breathes sigh of relief)

I don't think so. I can't find anything on the student membership site that says anything about any seeding program or pre-release of OS X.

Technically to Mr Honest Person he can probably pay for a Select ADC membership and still not use his hardware discount because he is so honest. You don't need to be a developer to join the ADC, you "can't" buy hardware that is not used to develop products that are to be sold for Apple products, oh Apple should so advertise ADC on TV to draw in the stupid and honest proles
I'm not sure how this relates to my comment. What I was saying is that it isn't the only discount he can ever receive in his life. It's just the only one he can as a student.

I never said that you can save over $500 with each purchase. My only point in a much earlier post was that it is a cheaper alternative to getting only education or refurb savings.

Perhaps the savings are not significant to you, but I am a university student, so I would be happy to even save $100 CAD (after costs of membership.) I do not plan on buying another machine while I am a student, so I am definitely going to take advantage of this program.

... and if I get a free t-shirt, then I will be that much happier!

Big conflict for germans

As most of the posters here, I'm waiting for Merom in MBP.
It will be my first Mac at all, till now I only tested the PowerMac G4 of my sister and from these tests I can say: ME TOO! :D
But here in Germany, there is some kind of conflict: raise of taxes from 16% to 19% at January 2007. So it would be better for me to get a MBP this year.
But on the other hand, Leopard is coming, so someone told me to wait to get my MBP with Leopard.
So: 3% more taxes or Mac OS Upgrade?

For now my plans are: MBP now, Upgrade later.

buy usa

buy in the usa... maybe in oregon where they don't charge sales tax :p

edit/add: this isnt a bad idea, i might just do this myself...

whenever it happens there's probably going to be lots of disapointed people that will be waiting for santa rosa for a complete redesign. I feel like the only improvements will be DL 8x superdrive on mbp and fw800....oh i forgot core 2 duo.

Phil Calls The Core 2 Duo iMac A Core Duo iMac • He's Lost His Marketing Intuition

I notice paul says that he hopes that apple adopts c2d. Whats that all about?
It's about 3 weeks AFTER Apple released Core 2 Duo iMacs and Phil is showing the 24" C2D iMac which he refers to as a Core Duo iMac. Can you believe it?!?!?

That's one crazy Worldwide Marketing Director if you ask me. How could he not use the term Core 2 Duo to describe his new 24" iMac? Is he Daft?

Phil daft? Well even if he is fired today, his benefits will probably be enough to buy many of our houses for the express purpose of tearing them down!

I heard the high tax burden in European countries. But, 19% on VAT from 16% would be vary noticeable as you spend your hard-earned money on daily staples and others.
http://www.worldwide-tax.com/index.asp#partthree

I don't know how it is in germany, but in britain daily staples are excluded from VAT, which only applies to luxury items. This is not the place to push a right-wing anti-tax agenda, this is the place to shout and complain about how Apple hasn't yet brought out a Merrom MBP! ;)

I don't think so: since you buy your computer through the ADC Store, it is part of the ADC material and so without warranty.
